I got injured at 38 and had to stop being a goalkeeper, today I'm 50 and I'm in shape to make a comeback. This video is for a lot for a back to the game, very inspiring!
Holtby hit the nail on the head when he said (paraphrasing) "when you win, you might get too much credit, and when you lose you might get too much blame". It's the same with Quarterbacks in American football.
The one thing I always think in the locker room listening to the skaters break down their game is: When you fail, people may or may not notice. When I fail, it goes on the scoreboard.
One thing that improved my game was getting my mind into it. I learned by visualizing the shots and saves I may face. I learned this through karate and wished I had started karate 10 years earlier than I did. As below my hips are bone on bone and cant even skate. I have so much respect for the guys that make it to the NHL there are a lot of good guys that never made the big leagues.
Ive played goal since I was 8 years old and hung my skates up 3 years ago because the pain in my hips stopped me. Im getting around on a cane and get 2 new hips this June cant wait to make this pain stop. I asked my surgeon if ill ever play goal again he replied NO the joints aren't set up for the action I make them perform. Breaks my heart after all these years but ill play it by ear. Im 58 now but will always be a goalie at heart and any one out there that plays goal making last second saves ect you know how much it hurts ti be told you cant play goal again. Most importantly is for me to walk without pain.
This kid was a godsend. Remember we came from having Kolzig for years, we were spoiled. We traded Varlamov and kept Michal Neuvirth. I don’t know who’s grandson Michal Neurvith was but he hung around foreverrrrrr. We were lucky Holtby turned out to be so good.
Why does every NHL related video have comment section with bellends saying. "As a such and such fan i respect guy who is not from my team." Thanks for the info buddies. You can respect all these NHL players even if you have your own home/favorite team.
I do not think you understand true team loyalty. We dont not say it just for attention we say it as a statement saying basically, " yeah i am for another team but i like this guy, even though we compete against him. I still want this guy to do good." that is all it is. Geesh.
I would of been a pro netminder today, hadnt i quit. But Im not mad about that. I sure as hell dont miss the pressure you have on you as a goaltender, both from yourself and the club. I will always remember the day I quit. I had a team meeting that night, and I was so mentally exhausted I could barely get out of bed. So I laid there for some time, thinking about whether or not I was willing to give up my future as a pro athlete. After a long time I decided to skip that meeting and quit. The feeling I got afterwards was like removing a cinder block from my chest, or like letting go of a heavy barbell hindering your breathing. I remember that I slept like a child that night.
As a guy whos loved hockey from day one... I started ice hockey at 25, i do everything nhl goalies do to warm up and get made fun of in the locker room, being 2hours early, warm ups mental drills and eye drills Well, I've been the best goalie in every league ive played, made every championship game but one, and everyone thinks ive been playing since i was a toddler... 31, haven't played in a year due to work, but i still drill and practice, maybe this next season i won't have to knock off as much rust lol #holtbeast #thecrowsaysno #kinghenrik4thecup
I do it all as well, except I only show up an hour early bc if I showed up 2 hours early I wouldnt be able to go into the locker room bc it would be occupied. I'm probably the worst goalie in the league (1-7 career record, this past winter was my first season and it got cut short due to a knee injury during a game, I'm just now getting back to the ice) but I plan on going to David Leggio (former Olympic, NHL and AHL goaltender) goaltending clinics to try and get better for the next fall season
@@Dodger24 if youre okay travelling to canada, very close to the usa border, theres Future Pro Goalie School. he is very good and worth the cost, former NHL goaltender and coach and been coaching around 2-3 decades
@@lacasadepapel4356 I show up about 2 hours early and do jumping Jacks and light jog around the rink. After, I start to stretch and do my sight drills (eye focus and tennis balls) along with stick drills. And then a meditation before I suit up. On ice I stretch again and then scrape the crease and then do my crease movement drills and wrap around drills and then finally take shots. I tell teams I play for that I like slapshots first then they could come in and try dekes and whatnot afterwards.
I love this me to am a goalie and it is the hardest position in the world as a mental, physical , and emotional stand point and this is so good to show to a young goalie like myself #I am 11
I remember when I was a goalie at age 11. 6 shutouts in the winter season and 4 in the fall. It was all about positioning the kids arebt that great yet at shooting so just keep your body in tge way and close your damn 5 hole
Went to high school with both Braden s parents. Hunter n Holtby both ace people. She has a great voice . Ace chick . Ethan not my real name but I know both parents. Super Ace. Super Ace is Braden. Nice . So focussed . Saw him in Calgary . Water bottle .such a good lad
Please make more of these. My friend's kid is 10 and a goalie, who could use more motivation video's like this. all the good players videos are about forwards, not goalies. Its a team game and goalies feel half left our and are sometimes head cases.

Will forever be my fav Cap, as a player, but also as a human being, hands down.

Holtby is one of the best in the game
I like how he shot it at the net in the beginning of on ice warm ups

I live in Pittsburgh but I love holtby
Where you live does not dictate your opinion. Unless you live in Toronto, then you need to seriously reconsider your life.
We need him back
Capitals is my favourite team in the NHL!
Wow what a goalie
GAMING Man ya
true
True
Love this video still today
Watching this is now a part of my pregame routine
We finally did it
Little did he know in a couple years he would help win the Capitals their first Stanley Cup and also for the “Save” he made in Game 2.
I struggle to do up downs and this guy can almost do a handstand in his pads. #Respect.
I love this video!! It's so entertaining!
He is a genltennan...Bless the Team..Go Capitals 😊
I love him and my family hates me for that because we are all Pittsburg fans all the way.
I love being a goalie it's the most exciting position ever 🔥🔥nothing like it
i seriously aspire to be like holtby.

Matthew Morello definitely not a Canadians fan because price is way better
You are a really, really bad sports fan if you are admitting defeat like that. figures, you're a Canadians fan.
Matthew Morello your just stupid then
we will miss you holtby hope the nucks treat you well

andy zhang *too*
He's good, but he's not any goaltender that's too good, like Marc-André Fleury or anything.
Warren he literally just won the cup over fleury
Steven Gehring but he had a team....
what kind of ball he's using during his routine warm up ?
Olivier Gosselin it's a puck
Do you seriously think those are pucks...?
racket ball
It’s a racquet ball. Lots of goalies use those to warm up
I think it was a hockey puck
