  • We apologize for the earlier version which was cut short. This one had only a problem at the very end, as those of you who survive it in full will see.
    After a number of off the record talks with high ranking sources in Israel, both Gadi and Mike are under the impression that the talks of larger goals are sincere. In that case we are probably witnessing a lull, no more, until President Trump takes office.
    Meanwhile, Netanyahu's domestic enemies are going into overdrive, with two new surprising investigations: one against the chief of Israel's Prison Service, and one against the chief of Israel's Police in Judea and Samaria. The problem seems to be this: they did what Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, told them to.

    The idiom ומעז יצא מתוק (“From the strong came sweetness”) originates from Shoftim 14:14, where Shimshon (Samson) poses a riddle inspired by his encounter with a lion whose carcass later housed a beehive. Symbolically, it expresses the idea that something good or sweet can emerge from adversity or strength, reflecting themes of transformation and divine providence. The phrase is often used to convey resilience, hope, and the unexpected blessings that arise from challenges, with significant application in Jewish thought to highlight moral and spiritual growth through trials.

      An additional layer of fun fact is that the Hebrew word for strong, עז, its feminine form עזה is the same word for Gaza, and Samson fought the Philistines, whose strongholds were largely in/near Gaza.

    2. While Ayelet Shaked was the state attorney, I wrote her an open letter informing her of the impact the current policies regarding incarceration had on me, as someone who volunteered during the so-called "Second Intifada." I specifically highlighted the case of Ari Fuld, his killer, and these policies. To wit: Ari's body lies where we all know, while his killer drinks coffee, sleeps on a mattress with a pillow, eats three meals a day, and enjoys the companionship of fellow detainees. As we know, Ari volunteered and as a consequence sacrificed his life. Who, even in their half-right mind, would volunteer again under such a scenario? I gave the letter to the then-consul general in NYC, who promised he'd deliver it to her, but I doubt he did. Just saying.

    Mike, Gadi - you both seem optimistic about the Lebanon ceasefire. Would you consider having Tony Badran on your show? His recent article in Tablet (Obama Plays a Dead Man’s Hand in Lebanon, and Wins - Rising up from his political grave, the ex-president cements a U.S. partnership with Iran in Lebanon while Israel meekly gives up its gains) captures his and Liel Lebowitz's views that it's a terrible, horrible ceasefire that Obama orchestrated similar to December 2016 UN Resolution 2334. Thoughts?

  • @DitDede
    @DitDede 2 месяца назад +1

    The saying מעז יצא מתוק Originated from Samson stories in the bible. Samson killed a lion (with his bare hands, duh) and later found bees had made a hive in the carcass. He continued and made an obscure riddle based on this, which in English goes something like:
    Out of the eater, something to eat;
    out of the strong, something sweet

      Out of the strong came something sweet.

    Too bad Israel Update was cut short this week.
    Could you explore the competing views on Syria? While I like your optimism about Erdogan, it is hard to embrace. Trying to stay as sane as possible...
    Syria seems to be a 3-way showdown between Shia and Sunni Islam with relatively pro-democratic Kurds. The Sunni factions supported by Turkey seem to be less tolerant than the Shia regarding minority populations to an extent that makes the "moderate" Sunni gulf states blanch. The domestic issues influencing Turkey are clear, but Erdogan's rhetoric that gets heard in pro-Israel circles doesn't leave much room for rapprochement with Israel. Turkey has the appearance of a young power drunk on its own potential. While Iran, its regional competitor seems overextended and ready to be pushed back. Turkey's growth as a military power that produces its own hardware gives it a wider degree of latitude than it has had in the past. What is there to check Erdogan besides his age (70)? And who stands to succeed him? I understand that these geopolitical concerns for Israel may be 5-10 years out and a lot can change in that time.

    Mike can you pontificate on which of Ben Gvir’s policies you find circus worthy? I know he advocates for Jewish sovereignty over all of Judea and Samaria, desires judicial reform, and takes a strong stance on Arab terrorism. Other than publicly declaring your stance on a particular political figure, your thoughtful critique can serve to enlighten his voters. Otherwise… you risk sounding like another political pundit from the MSM which I’m guessing the average viewer here is running away from.
