Ben, It is certainly interesting to see what the Different Firmware versions can offer. Now I have one with the latest Egzumer and another recently loaded IJV 2.9R5 . I found IJV V3.13 to have too many variable sub settings... almost like a Beta Burn so I opted for V2.9R5.. I hand it to each and every person who has written new Firmware for this Radio...They are sharp individuals for sure.. Thank You
Hey Ben, i have to admit that every video you produced is very informative and, at the same time, very educative. It just shows your knowledge is great in this field. Many thanks!!!!
Excellent comparison, thanks. You may want to consider F4HWN's (Armel) fork of Egzumer 0.22. It has a lot of added features and even more bug fixes. New versions come out all the time (current is 2.6). He's extremely reactive to reported issues and feature requests.
Agree, it's one of the best firmwares available imo. Not much clutter, and almost everything I need is in there. I've found the band scope to be very useful for scanning, because it works much quicker than the regular scan.
This was 100 percent useful, thank you Ben for taking time and putting effort into these comparison demos. Hope to see more of the same format as new firmware versions get released. Bonus, now I know what sstv and APRS sound like. Cheers
Well there is also Punktracker and Reborn. At that with Reborn you getting Si4732 support and Spectrum band and Spectrum analyzer plus it can listen at the same time on more than 2 different frequencies. Listen to 10 freqs at the same time? No problem.
I did not had too much trouble following the guide to install IJV V3. It was easy to follow despite some text not being translated (can't read Italian), but i did got my issues. I wasn't successful flashing it with UVMOD and the updater tool from Quansheng, only with the k5-prog software IJV mod's author provide on his website i had some success on that. Thank you for the very informative video. I'm at a loss as to which one to pick, and just doing research right now. The radios aren't even for me really, but a friend who asked me to do them a favor. They've been told that one of these firmware's will allow these radios to TX in the HF bands without any modifications other than changing the firmware and using a special version of CHIRP. They're not looking for superior performance, just enough for very short range communication, basically with the other station standing right next to her. I've joined one of the FB groups for the radio and have been told it can't happen. Is this true or isn't it? Before anyone gives me a big speech as to why this shouldn't be attempted, I know the consequences and caveats of even attempting to TX in the HF bands with one of these. But like I said it isn't for me and I take no responsibility for what they may do with these radios. Hi Phil, I haven't yet however that is planned for a video in the near future. To be honest the UV-K5, UV-K5(8) and UV-K6 are all pretty much the same, as is the UV-5R PLUS although the 5R plus has a slightly bigger battery. Thanks for watching 👍

@CanadienWoodsman No, even in an emergency situation, the Quansheng won't work on Airband (although it can receive on AM it transmits on FM) Anyone licenced to operate on the airband would know to only ever use type approved equipment. If you want a handheld for that situation, then there are plenty of genuine airband handhelds on the market. Thanks for watching.

I may be wrong but the CEC firmware does not transmit on SSB (nor AM). It can de-modulate it however.
CEC firmware will allow double sideband TX ie: transmitting on both upper and lower sideband simultaneously.
