Correction: those mini Japanese sets were actually released in the US too. What makes the ones in the video unique is the Japanese box art with the Kabaya logo.
I've actually done the clone trooper box challenge back in 2008 at lego world Zwolle in the Netherlands. Never knew that this box would be worth so much at the moment
Did you get to keep one? I heard the stores either let the kids keep them or just straight up threw them away after the event. I’m not sure if that’s true tho
@fivelonelyclones nope, in my case. When I finished the challenge I got a golden 4x4 lego piece (the same one you see at the Lego masters TV series) , they of course wanted to save the clones for other children to also be able to do the challenge. They ware just standard clone troopers anyways, what happened to the boxes im not sure. I guess many ware thrown away after the challenge but in some cases the people who ware hosting the challenges saved the boxes, that's probably why there's still some boxes around today
@fivelonelyclones I remember it to be pretty wonky, it walked. But not like an AT-AT would actually walk like in the movies, it more curled side to side, love all your videos btw, true lego star wars fans 🫶
I could have made an honorable mention of the first version of the Malevolence ship, released in 2009 3 years before the normal 2012 set This 2009 version was part of Lego's R2-D2 Quest promotion, where they distributed the official instructions, with the pieces in 3 bags of parts, and the construction resembled a diorama ships like the one we have today, and considering one of the secret Lego Star Wars sets
They probably don't count, but Lego has keychains made with glued together Lego so those miniland figures aren't the only time Lego has sold premade glued together "sets."
The 3 japanese sets you mentioned were all available in the US as polybags in 2004. I got the tie interceptor and the xwing as gifts from family. The printed pieces they have are very nice.
I have the set at home. Not sure where any of the wheels are, but I have the motor (minus the battery cover), panels and box somewhere. Instructions may or may not be with all our other instructions.
Kabaya also sold the Insectoid series set around the same time. I remember my mother giving it to me as a child when I was hospitalized and had nothing to do.
The technic line gets too much hate, they're a product of their time and Technic as a whole was still focused on functions and letting you see the moving parts. It's not like today's technic super cars where everything is covered in panels and trying to be realistic.
The toys with candies are a somewhat common practice in Japan, it has something to do with bypassing the permissions to sell certain things, so basically a toy needs to include a candy in the box to be sold at shops that sell food or something like that. Such toys usually include one or two pieces of chewing gum, at least the ones that I've seen reviews on
We actually got those mini sets, though the X-Wing was paired with the TIE Advanced, and the Slave 1 was Jango colors paired with Obi Wan's Jedi Starfighter Actually used to have both those Mindstorms sets as a kid. The other stuff though I never heard of at all
I had the mindstorms R2D2 when I was a kid. It was pretty cool, although I was *way* too young to really appreciate it. The basic R2DR build had a programmable motor, and it came with basic instructions to make it roll around in preset patterns and make R2D2 noises. It couldn't move its legs on its own iirc, at least not with the basic build. Unfortunately, being a kid who didn't understand robotics, I took pieces from R2D2 to make spaceships and stuff, and all the parts eventually got lost in the sea of pieces from other sets.
I had the droid kit. I'm sure it's still laying around my childhood home somewhere... Even at the time, it was a very strange set that didn't offer much functionality.
Those Mini-Sets are an example of Shokugan, otherwise known as 'Food Toys'. They're small, inexpensive little toys and model kits that come with a piece of cheap candy, usually being soda flavored gum
Own both the mindstorm sets and they are still kicking! The AT-AT were amazing cause it walked and with some additional plating you could add both pilots as well as troops inside. Great fun
0:40 I think I've seen these sets before in the original lego star wars set dictionary. I'm surprised that none of the other sets in this video were in any of the dictionaries.
The Droid Development Kit is a set I had as a kid, I remember taking it apart and reassembling it between the different forms. The battledroid would if hit in a particular spot have the droid fall over backwards as if the droid had been blasted and fell off the speeder. It wasn't a particularly good set if I'm being frank.
The droid development kit did not come with instructions for the Stap or the sub, just R2. It did however come with a DVD that showed off it and other builds. The motor made it dodge back and forth. It looked fucking sick.
You have made some extremely interesting discoveries here. Well done! I truly never knew about these sets myself. I don't need to get them, but they are very interesting.
The droid developer kit was my first ever Star Wars LEGO set as a kid in the 90s as I was big into robotics (what I studied at University also), I didn’t actually get into collecting the main line Star Wars series until the 2010s aha.
The mini sets did come out in the us! However they were like dual packs so you got too. Sets 4484-4487 they came out in 2003ish? There was also a tie bomber that if you got all four you could build
Ngl went in assuming I’d know all of these but I had no idea that droid mindstorms set had more builds than just R2. Now I’m gonna try to find pictures of the gungan sub model lol
Those Japanese exclusive micro ships were available in the states, I had all of them. They were poly bag sets, and there’s also a millennium falcon, standard TIE and Vader’s TIE.
I have both *Star Wars Mindstorm* sets and, although they are indeed limited in actions, they have cool sounds. I also have a rare Han Solo on his Taun Taun miniland set. It looks... Vintage!
somehow by all means, i have the chewbaca miniland figure i got him in a garage sale one year for 15$ and didn't think much of him until i found him and found out the whole set was 7k which is crazy yes if people wanna fact check me it was glued together yes is real lego and so on. I'm really happy i have an item in one of these videos
I’ve seen both the droid and dark side developer kits pop up on FB marketplace recently, both of which are relatively close to where I live, selling for only $60 and $150 respectively lol
Correction: those mini Japanese sets were actually released in the US too. What makes the ones in the video unique is the Japanese box art with the Kabaya logo.
The Japanese version is the Western version split in 2 though. I.e Slave I came with Obi Wans‘s Starfighter, the x-wing with vaders tie
I think I have the slave one and the interceptor
Fun fact the kabaya boxes also have gum balls in them which aren’t so bad
Must have been released in Europe as well, I know I have the X-wing
I remeber you used to get those polybags at legoland windsor. Pretty sure they were free with meals in the park
I've actually done the clone trooper box challenge back in 2008 at lego world Zwolle in the Netherlands. Never knew that this box would be worth so much at the moment

@fivelonelyclones I also have a friend who owns the motorised AT-AT who bought it back in 1999, very cool set but very ugly
@@jordymulder3181how’s the walking feature compared to the 2007 motorized at-at?
@fivelonelyclones I remember it to be pretty wonky, it walked. But not like an AT-AT would actually walk like in the movies, it more curled side to side, love all your videos btw, true lego star wars fans 🫶

I’ve never heard of that before
Weird! The lego star wars podracing bucket is a super weird set, but it's well known so makes sense it didn't make it on the list :D
I actually own that set and was curious about it's obscurity
They probably don't count, but Lego has keychains made with glued together Lego so those miniland figures aren't the only time Lego has sold premade glued together "sets."
Guys what if Indiana jones appears in Star Wars?
@ like maybe he would be an Easter egg or a new character
Yeah. I hear the Indiana Jones actor likes Star Wars a lot.
Just stop
He’s in TCS
Have you seen Bombad Bounty or The Quest For R2-D2?
The 3 japanese sets you mentioned were all available in the US as polybags in 2004. I got the tie interceptor and the xwing as gifts from family. The printed pieces they have are very nice.
The Japanese sets also seem to be the base for the Minikit versions of those ships in Lego Star Wars 2
I swear I remember seeing that Mindstorms R2-D2 in an old catalog in my Uncle’s LEGO bin when I was little. It just looked too familiar.
I have a catalog like that!!! It announces the R2-D2 or the AT-AT, I forgot.
IT’S THE PERFECTLY SCALE GUY W CRAZYDOG
I remember seeing ads for them in the tv
I have the set at home. Not sure where any of the wheels are, but I have the motor (minus the battery cover), panels and box somewhere. Instructions may or may not be with all our other instructions.
Have it one seal in box
Kabaya also sold the Insectoid series set around the same time. I remember my mother giving it to me as a child when I was hospitalized and had nothing to do.
You and M&R Productions would get along great. He knows all the ins and outs of these rare items
Those micro fighters at the beginning were also at Walmart in Canada like 20 years ago
The technic line gets too much hate, they're a product of their time and Technic as a whole was still focused on functions and letting you see the moving parts. It's not like today's technic super cars where everything is covered in panels and trying to be realistic.
Yeah I think that's something people tend to forget when they look back on old school technic.

Actually used to have both those Mindstorms sets as a kid.
The other stuff though I never heard of at all
When I was in Japan earlier this year the back of the Lego sets are cool with all the foreign text. They have exclusive Lego sets there too
I had the mindstorms R2D2 when I was a kid. It was pretty cool, although I was *way* too young to really appreciate it. I own the Mind storms AT-AT, and yes, the arms move on the Droideka as its feature.
I had the droid kit. I'm sure it's still laying around my childhood home somewhere... Even at the time, it was a very strange set that didn't offer much functionality.
Lego should bring the clone kits back so the clone army builders can be quiet and let other armies shine for a bit.
Those Mini-Sets are an example of Shokugan, otherwise known as 'Food Toys'. They're small, inexpensive little toys and model kits that come with a piece of cheap candy, usually being soda flavored gum
The best thing about collecting is the rare items!
Own both the mindstorm sets and they are still kicking! The AT-AT were amazing cause it walked and with some additional plating you could add both pilots as well as troops inside. Great fun
I would LOVE a modern take on that mindstorms R2D2. Imagine being able to control a modern Lego R2D2 with your phone.
i saw those a long time ago and i build the x-wing my self with some parts i had, that inspired me to do custom b-wing as well

6:27 Actually many chess sets includes glued minifigures

I Can prouldly say I have Heart of every Single one of them
The Droid Developer Kit also included an obscenely obscure Technic turntable element for R2D2's Dome that to this date was only released in that set.
Those mini ship builds are adorable
Some are actually cool
Need those Japanese sets
The mini sets did come out in the us! However they were like dual packs so you got too. Sets 4484-4487 they came out in 2003ish? There was also a tie bomber that if you got all four you could build

Yeah read the pinned comment I corrected it. The box arts is what’s unique
I have both *Star Wars Mindstorm* sets and, although they are indeed limited in actions, they have cool sounds. I also have a rare Han Solo on his Taun Taun miniland set. It looks... Vintage!
200 for all 3 of those japan sets sealed is actually kinda a steal
my friend has that Mindstorms R2D2, ive always passively wondered what it was from. It actually looks pretty good in person.
the mini sets were also sold in the UK, cant remember if they were part of a promotion but i definitely has the x wing
its a shame that they didnt release those clone trooper sets for regular purchase, id imagine these things to fly of the shelfs like crazy
The Mindstorm AT AT feel like a cancelled prototype of a lost 1999 set it's surreal lol
I have that AT-AT Mindstorm set and just recently thought about putting it on the market. Still haven't decided.
never knew about those mindstorms ones
I gotta say, I learned new things from this video! Great job!
0:28 i had them too
not a regional exclusive, but a holiday exclusive
somehow by all means, i have the chewbaca miniland figure i got him in a garage sale one year for 15$ and didn't think much of him until i found him and found out the whole set was 7k which is crazy yes if people wanna fact check me it was glued together yes is real lego and so on. You can find a video of the Mindstorms Gungan Sub, from like 10 years ago.
The first three sets were not promotional exclusive in Japan they came in the tins and you could buy them at Comic-Con
i actually have the droid developer kit, i got it along with a bunch of 1980s educational sets from my aunt and uncle
5:06 I just about choked when I heard that price
I remember those sets. But robotic ones were already very expensive and not that good at that time.
M&R has the 2008 one as well and it's also in one of his videos
I’ve seen both the droid and dark side developer kits pop up on FB marketplace recently, both of which are relatively close to where I live, selling for only $60 and $150 respectively lol
The video is about sets most people haven’t seen before not the most valuable sets
@@fivelonelyclonesyea I get that, I was just pointing out how the vid coincided with the amount of listings I’ve seen for those two sets in particular
I have that mindset for r2d2 still seal in box .
There are actually a lot more star wars Mindstorms
I actually have the mindstorms R2D2 set, but I've never actually found all of the pieces
I saw this clone building event in the new version with phase 2 clones from the battle pack and it cost 500 euros
We driving the prices up of these sets with this one, if they aren’t, already high
Guys guys it’s not Slave one it’s Boba Fett’s Starship.
I bought my friend that R2 D2 set for his birthday
5:00 so mp7 rules nice pal
I saw the droid developer kit at a thrift store for $70
Wow, what an amazing video from the great “Five Lonely Clones!” Your content is so inspiring and emotional. Thank you for your service.

I have the Droid Developer kit!
The first one i had when i was a kid. In Sweden
3:01 LOST MEDIA???
