    What a breath of fresh are to watch a video that puts things into real life scenarios and giving an honest view rather than just someone going over the specs and saying it is ace - still not sure if I will swap or not from Canon but love what you and Sam do with the S5 II the colours are amazing !

      Thanks Heith! After 6 months of using the camera I’m really happy with it and I’ve not used my Ronin 4D at all 😅😅😅 poor thing. Appreciate you taking the time to watch it. The good news is if you have any EF lenses then they’ll work well for video on an S5II. It’s really nice now to have a camera that I can just pick up and go without thinking about anything too complex.

    This came just in time for me, as I plan to get the S5 ii soon for a wedding. I also love how you overlaid the AF settings over the video. Very creative touch! Thanks for the insight.

      Hi Sergio 👋 thank you for watching my video :) I’m sure you’ll love the camera for weddings, it’s great! I don’t enjoy the crop so much for slow motion which might be important for you, but for the price of this camera I think it’s acceptable considering the amount of other features :)

    Out of all the reviews I've watched for the Lumix S5ii, this has been the most interesting one, seeing real professionals using the camera and giving tips was truly helpful. I'm planning on buying the s5ii this week for wedding filmmaking and everything you said has completely sold me and comforted me that I will be more than happy with this purchase. Liked and subscribed, can't wait to watch more of your content. Thank you so much!

    I’m still using the S5, shot my first wedding on it a few weeks ago. All manual focus. I decided to look into Sony, after lots of research (again) and RUclips comparison videos I’ve done a full circle back to upgrading to the S5ii. Amazing camera

    This is already a video on youtube that I value a lot!
    And indeed overheating at a crucial moment, and not knowing when your camera will start working again, give me a less performing autofocus that can be improved with firmware updates!
    Almost all videos start with we are not sponsored by panasonic but have bought the camera and all lenses, and I don't believe any of that!
    Can you make a video of the full settings and assigned buttons for the Panasonic Lumix s5ii
    This is already a very good video that teaches you how to use the autofocus settings for filming during a wedding, especially the use of the zone focus.
    Do you want to continue making these videos and information about sound settings and your findings after longer use here?
    thanks in advance!

    I'm going to rent this camera sometime soon and just see how like it (coming from an FX3 and A74)! The 6K open gate, phase-detect autofocus and video assist features are super intriguing.

      @RussellKentNicholls  Год назад

      Hey 👋 Issac! I’d recommend renting it! Might take some getting used to but I think with practice you’ll appreciate the video-centric features, easy menus, size, AF, and the best bit: the colour science and price!

    Thanks a lot for this video! For sure I’ll get the II X! Otherwise, I was using the free version of DaVinci resolve to combine a rec709 conversion lut + a creative lut exported to VLT for monitoring. I like the fact the camera can read cube files now 🎉.
    Very useful tip for the autofocus: I would use exclusively the full area but using the zone range is clever and as well as single point for detail.
    What would be the best AF settings for speed and sensitivity?
    Thanks again for the video

    This was really helpful, thanks Russell. I have an S52, and unlike the S5, it seems that you can't "confirm" a person (either with the joystick or by touching a face) when you have a group of people. You can, of course, move the zone, but even though the CAF was slower on the S5, it was handy being able to tap the joystick to cycle through the people you wanted to focus on. It would be great to know how you're using AF to choose a person when filming groups of people (for example during a cocktail hour). Thanks!

    • @RussellKentNicholls
      @RussellKentNicholls  Год назад +1

      Hey! Yes, I know what you mean, I was surprised about this too; I used to enjoy clicking the stick in to confirm a person - now it seems to just make a focus point. Have you tried the AF-ON back button focus to confirm a face? This might work - I’ve not tried it yet. The only way I’ve been able to switch faces is by pushing the joystick left & right to move along them sequentially. But, in a crowded room I am finding it a bit haywire sometimes so I think a firmware update to be able to select & lock focus on a person until they leave the scene would be a welcome addition, now that the AF is more reliable. Thank you for taking the time to watch, much appreciated!

    • @KismetCreative
      @KismetCreative Год назад +1

      @@RussellKentNicholls Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried the AF-On button yet, but will do. I've also tried moving the AF box along faces and it's been a mixed bag tbh. I've had better luck turning human detection off and then just touching the face in tracking mode, which kind of does the job. But I really hope they do update to allow us to select faces in the way you could do with previous S cameras. It makes a lot more sense.

    How well does the camera autofocus in situations with a lot of ppl like the reception ?

    • @RussellKentNicholls
      @RussellKentNicholls  Год назад +1

      With the one point selection you can move the box to the area of the face you’d like. Not ideal though since I’m sure on the old S5 you could use the joystick to switch between different faces.

    Hey Russell! I don't think this was addressed here, apologies if it was...how do you feel about the S5II not having an optical low pass filter? Has that led to moire for you in your wedding films that was a problem, or in general has it not been an issue?

      Hey! Thanks for your comment; you know what I’ve never had a problem with moire really. It wouldn’t put me off purchasing. I’d expect to see it on veils and typically men’s jackets but it’s not been an issue for me. Thank you!
