My back pain comes from my temporary job at work which requires me to be on my feet for many hours on my shift. I just purchased a back brace and it was instant relief. On my days off my back pain fades away over the two days and returns when I got back to work. I will be so glad when I go back to my regular job in 2 1/2 months.

I'm trying to keep a more active lifestyle to keep my weight down but I have a herniated disc in my L4/L5. I ride my bike a lot but sometimes I do get spurts of pain if I don't keep my core locked. Is it okay for me to use a back brace just during that period of time? It really helps when I'm sitting at my computer desk to keep me from rolling my back forward.

    • @Ryan_1997
      @Ryan_1997 5 лет назад +3

      I have the same.
I was using a brace for awhile years back, but stopped. Felt like lack of blood flow.
Have a good diet, keep away from cigs and alcohol, no heavy lifting, water therapy(swimmin pool), yoga. I made a rail that measures up to my lumbar and I usually stretch backwards on it. Also electric therapy works well to relieve muscle strains/tension.
But yea for me the brace is limited to what youre doing, others might work 24/7. Wish you well.

Try swimming, and stretching and religiously go for a walk every day. Push yourself hard so you are improving the time it takes to do a set course. Also take note of your breathing as you are trying to increase speed. As time goes by, you will increase in speed and your cardiovascular fitness gets better. Keep a daily log of your time and weight.
Then 3 weeks down the track, look over your log, and think about why you began in the first place? To help your back out right?
You will then say where is the back pain? It will be gone, and you didn't even notice it leaving you!

I just slipped my s1 and l5 disc and I'll be back to work in 9 days in total I will have had 12-13 days to recover. Would a good back brace be smart for my first month back ? I'm a pool service tech 5 days a week I take care of about 100 pool. The stuff I'm worried about is loading my truck in the morning with cases of my chemicals which usually are 4 gallons per case along with other chemicals that range between 10-30 pounds, then I also have to bend over at every pool to test the chemicals, and then I have to use a net to clean the pool. With those activities and the injury I have will it be a smart decision to wear a brace for a few weeks ?

Bob and Brad are physical therapists known for their online presence.
They discuss the topic of wearing back braces for back pain.
They provide five rules to follow when considering the use of a back brace.
Back braces are not necessary for everyday muscle strain.
They advise against using back braces preventatively.
Back braces should only be used for specific stressful tasks.
Long-term use of back braces should be avoided, and individuals should aim to wean off them.
Back braces may be helpful for certain conditions such as spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, or compression fractures.
They demonstrate different types of back braces and explain their features.
Bob and Brad inject humor and engage in banter throughout the video.

I've been specialising in fixing back pain for over 30 years and I disagree guys. The typical muscle strain comes on towards the end of a day because the already tight muscles become fatigued through less than good circulation and putting a brace on as the pain starts to come on, is a very good way to not make the tightness/ fatigue worse. It's a case of listening to your body and when it says the muscles are starting to fail the back brace is a great help when you have to keep going. As far as using a brace to help with support during heavy load periods (preventative) that's also a great idea as an already tight back is weaker, so the extra support helps ensure the problem doesn't make your back worse. Again it's about protecting an already existing tightness when you have to do a heavy job the support is great. I agree though that the brace should also be used short term during difficult times and ultimately you are better to fix the cause of the poor circulation/ tightness which is usually a problem with the way your spine and pelvis is carrying the load of your body and gravity i.e. your posture is wrong due to muscle imbalances.

you say don't wear one all the time but my job is literally 10+ hours a day moving packages sometimes over 50 lbs. Would it be bad to try one for a couple days at work and see if it helps? A year ago I got into a car accident and fractured my L5 vertibre. Anyways it causes pain by the end of the night every night.

would love a video about supporting back when you go to your kid's sport events where you are either having sit in bleachers or portable chairs for 3-6 hours at a time. (i.e., what are the best portable chairs to buy or best portable bleacher supports to buy). Thanks.

How about wearing a back brace (like the one with suspenders) when working at a desks. I find that when I’m at my desk doing work/ at my laptop I find myself starting to hunch over, I try to sit straight but sometimes forget when I’m really getting into my work. Would wearing one in short bursts be better?

I'm confused .. you said not to use it as a preventative tool but then you went on to say it's good to use to do yard work and such. Wouldn't that be preventative? And, if it makes sense for a weight lifter to use it .. why isn't it good for ...generally lifting things? Like, particularly if you aren't very strong in the first place and lifting stuff would be a lot for you?
I am going to be doing PSW work. So, lifting and guiding a person with cerebral palsy. Does'nt it make sense to wear one in that case? ...Any input from anyone would be helpful. Thanks :)

Recently had a hip replaced. Used a walker for a bit. Not sure if that caused my posture issues, but I find myself bending forward at the waist.(not the usual slouching rounded shoulder posture problem). Trying to figure out how to correct this. Would a back brace help to remind me to stand straighter? What exercises would help so I stop this leaning forward while walking thing?!

I have Cerebral Palsy, and have muscle pain in my back constantly--I've had it for several years. (I found out my pain was muscular after x-rays). Should I wear a back brace for going out for a walk, and standing at work? My pain is usually a 7/10 when I get up in the morning, and does dwindle to about a 4/10 throughout the day. The worst it gets is lying down it can be a 9/10.
