I've often thought I'd like to have a massage table or a chiropractors table to sleep on. That way I could sleep on my stomach with my head nestled in the face cradle. ☮️💞🙏🏼
With obstructive sleep apnea, my doctor recommended side sleeping. I've been researching all day how to set up the bed and pillows so that I'm aligned as well as possible and comfortable too. Yikes, you guys are way smarter than anyone, putting it all together and adding the specifics of why (mid range position, e.g.) that no one else spoke of or even understands .... down to earth and real experts to boot. Thank you!!!
I used to sleep on my stomach comfortably when younger. Now that I'm in my 50s, and if I fall asleep on my stomach, I wake up with a pretty bad headache. It does go away eventually, but you guys have confirmed it's this position that's the cause. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
fuck that shit I would never sleep on my back! I've trained my body so that I don't accidentaly turn on to my back in my sleep, only sleeping on the sides. I don't take risks with sleep paralysis!
Because no one wants to practice for their coffin lol! all jokes aside sleeping on your back does take some time, like a week, to get used to. I think a comfy bed and pillow helps out tremendously.
It's all very well to say that there are certain positions you must avoid when sleeping, but when you are asleep, your body automatically gets into the most comfortable position, so how do you deal with that?
Because I'm supposed to get knee surgery I sleep with a pillow between my knees and or times I have to put a pillow under the knee that hurts the most.
Just ignore this kind of stuff. The body is perfectly capable of coping with itself. Stay flexible and healthy, both in mind and body, and ignore this perfectionism click bait that just serves to make people feel less comfortable in their bodies.
Watching this made me feel so much better about my self. I have arthritis and I use a wedge a medium density pillow and two body pillows. I have figured out the best way to arrange them so I sleep better and don’t wake up hurting. The way you showed the pillow in all the different ways is about how I look surrounded by all of mine. No one told me it was just trial and error. I am glad you are here now for others.
Finally this stomach sleeper has an answer for my neck pain and headaches! I slept on my side last night and woke up without a stiff and sore neck for the first time in months. Thanks, boys!!!!
One thing that they didn’t mention during the entire ‘side’ sleeping position spiel is that if your mattress is soft enough to let your hip and shoulder sink in, you don’t need all of those random pillows everywhere. Just a big one under your head and maybe one between your knees. A lot of ppl think firm and extra firm etc, but if you are a side sleeper and have wide shoulders and / or hips, a soft mattress really helps.
Then what the fuck do I do I’m a stomach sleeper that’s the only way I can go to sleep thankfully I don’t have any problems they mentioned in the video
@@NovelVanguard a bit late but id imagine softer is better on the stomach, especially for your hips, but mostly just preference. whatever you find comfortable is fine
I sleep on my left side but I extend my arm forward so it flattens out my shoulder. I adjust the pillow so my neck and head is in a straight line. I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea and this is extremely helpful in breathing.
Hi Lola. The sleep demon, like all demons are called 'shaytan jinn' in Islam or just 'jinn' in context. To remove or block them, use these steps. Muslims practise these traditions dating back to the Prophet Muhammad and they do not have sleep paralysis/demons, unless they forget to do the below. 1. Make sure there's no food crumbs in your bed. 2. Have a shower if you've had intercourse. 3. Its important to take only 2 sleeping positions. Your right side or back. Never on your left or tummy. (Too long to explain). 4. Before hopping into bed, say "I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed". It doesn't matter if you're not religious, you only have to acknowledge The Creator of man and universe with His Arabic name. (Fyi Allah = Al-ilah = The God). All you need to grasp is God is One, He has no partners or offspring. Keep repeating it sincerely and with awareness until you fall asleep. 5. If you're able to additionally learn the phrase in Arabic its a bonus. "A`oodhu billahi min ash-shaytaanir rajeem". Pronunciation is on RUclips. But not absolutely necessary. You may also use this statement in everyday activities to keep jinn from interfering with you. Take care, all the best.
These two killed it. Actually made the video a normal, fun time. Thanks for educating us on this. I knew I was right when I lifted my arm a little so that my side won't be suffering. Be safe everyone and be well♥ 😊. Doing a little of research never hurts.
That shoulder thing.. my doctors and myself could never explain to ourselves why I sometimes have a regular recurring week of agonising shoulder pain.. but that I don’t sleep right could be it!! Thank you!
David Helseth I was sleeping on my shoulder for the past 30 years-it wasn't an issue until recently. Now I'm trying to change my sleeping position-it is extremely hard!
Me too. although I'm not "that" old yet. But there's nothing finer than some nice stomach pressure against the bed. Its like getting a hug all night long.
I started sleeping on my back a few years ago. It took some getting used to but I can sleep that way reasonably well now, though I still prefer my side and mostly my left side. Ribs are actually flatter on that side which is why I taught myself to sleep on my right side. Then I had shoulder problems so learnt to sleep on my back while I was working on strengthening the muscles supporting the joint. Took a couple of years but I had good results after about six months. Shoulders are pretty good now. I lift and had neglected my shoulders too much. Now I work them a lot.
Two pillows, or better, three for a side sleeper: two stacked under the head to avoid shoulder problems; one between knees to keep hips and back ok. Amazing what a difference that knee pillow makes.
I use three My Pillow travel pillows for my ankles, knees and a cuddle one to rest my arm on. I use the regular My pillow for my head as it supports my head with no pressure points - I used to wake up with a sore ear and it cured my TMJ. I also warm a wheat bag every night for my feet. The good thing also is that they squish into my suitcase for travel and they fluff right up again. They also are perfect for the beach and travel - I take them everywhere.
@@ryoungerman7493 first of all I caused my TMJ by severe stress and yelling - I was out shoveling snow and yelled at the top of my lungs ( someone had totally stressed me out) the stress, cold and extreme muscle contraction caused me to get lock jaw - I could not open or close my mouth - what an experience. I went to bed and tried to relax but this lockjaw lasted two days - I could not even brush my teeth. This condition lasted off and on for months. About that time I saw an add for My Pillow and thought it was worth a try. It gave me full support and no pressure points on my jaw. My previous pillow was microfiber and fairly firm... so sinking my jaw into a soft but supportive pillow as I am a side sleeper gave me such comfort. It took two years of off and on problems and no help from the doctors for me to try and resolve the pain on my own. I also used warm wheat bags to relieve the stressed out muscles of my jaw. At this point I could still not even go to the dentist and open my mouth without it locking up and being in pain. The pillow helped me relax and allowed me to align my jaw. To this day this is the only pillow that does not put my jaw back into pain and lockjaw mode. I am also careful now not to also do anything to irritate my jaw - I avoid eating hard to chew or excessive chewing as in peanuts, gum or steak. I try to not grit my teeth or yell... they all cause pain and disable my jaw. A warm wheat bag helps relax things but I am also be careful to avoid stress. I used to always wake up with a very sore red ear... since My Pillow and no pressure points my ear problem has also been solved.
@@elgordo6280 now that I think about it I've only ever gotten sleep paralysis while sleeping on my back. Over the years I also realised I only get sleep paralysis when I go to bed extremely fatigued/tired. Fucking sucks feeling helpless as you try so hard to move your body but cant move an inch and scream your loudest but the best u can do is make a very quiet sound.
1:00 The trick for that is to take the other person out of the statement to see if it still makes sense. As in "If you know Brad and me/I" you remove Brad from the statement. Then the statement becomes "If you know I" or "If you know me". So in this case the correct answer is obviously "If you know Brad and me".
I tried all these suggestions rigorously for 1 night and spent most the night wandering around the house looking for all the different pillows and props, I only got 2 hrs sleep, but got a good workout!😅😅😊
I had a flat old pillow, and now my shoulder is messed up. I used to hear a creak and then the ligament started getting stuck. I began sleeping mostly on my back, replaced my pillow, a doing some stretching exercises. I had on my own started doing similar movements to what you demonstrated on your shoulder pain video. I can now do them correctly! Review the condition of your pillow, everyone! If it’s flat, no bueno!
Flat pillows should be saved and used folded in half if king size pillow and is perfect for between the knees or under the knees if supine (on your back), or if one knee up under knee on bed. Great videos guys. T😃😃hanks for sharing. One more also good for under your arm if on your side to keep arm from falling into the dip of your waist. I have adrenal gland (sits on top of kidneys)with a mass on it that is bleeding so it stops waist pain when laying on my side.
This is so helpful! I am a side-sleeper (in part due to asthma and allergies),.but it's not always comfortable! I appreciate the tips to make it easier, more comfortable, and healthier!
Hello Alexandria, it's a great pleasure meeting you here, may God bless you and your family... How are you doing over there? And how are your business and family?
When I used to sleep on my back I would get sleep paralysis. I started turning my head to the side and it helped, but my neck always hurts the next morning. Now I mostly sleep on my sides. Thanks for the tips!

Oh my gosh! I have never had shoulder pain until 60. Now my right shoulder is so painful (I tend to sleep on my rt shoulder). Tripped across this video. Would stop video, get on my bed and try positions they were showing. I found the right combo - one they mentioned - that gives me no pain. What a God send this is video is!
How the hell did our ancestors sleep in their cold draughty caves on bits of animal skin and straw on a stone floor with one eye open for predators/enemies ? We need special beds, memory foam this and that, special belts, medication etc... and we still can’t sleep !
If you hunted all day for your food and clubbed your mate to drag him/her home, you would be dead tired at the end of the day. So, you would fall asleep pretty fast!
I got rid of my neck pain and stiffness just by using bolster pillows. I had two that I situate end to end so that when I roll over there’s another pillow ready and in position. Amazing what a difference this makes.
I have been sleeping on my stomach all my life and never had headaches. The only issue I had frequently was numb arms when waking up, but after I got in shape lost a bunch of weight and got muscle that never happened again.
One of the things I have heard to do if you are a side sleeper, but unfortunately was not mentioned in the video, is you should sleep with a pillow between your knees to take the stress off of your spine.
I spent 30 years in the Marine Corps, we slept a lot of nights on hard ground. We dugout shallow holes for our Shoulders and Hips. I have a mattress pad that’s 4” thick, I cut out holes for my Shoulders and Hips and it worked perfectly.
Finally someone is showing us how to use these pillows. The cervical spine pillow now makes sense. Good advice turn the shoulder out or up or something.
After watching you guys torpedo every position of sleep,.....I've decided that sleeping is not only painful,...but DANGEROUS,.....I have therefore decided to STOP SLEEPING ALTOGETHER,......I've been awake for two years now,....AND I FEEL GREAT,....I have lots of extra time,....I eat six meals a day,....and I no longer have any pain of any sort,!!!!! Thanks for all your zany and wonderful suggestions,.....oh, and by the way,....I never dream anymore, and NEVER HAVE ANYMORE NIGHTMARES,..!!!!! Thank you...!!!!
Lemme know when science reveals the secret to "changing your sleep position while you're ASLEEP and NOT CONSCIOUS enough to do anything about what position your body apparently finds comfortable in that moment". That's the video I need. I know I don't sleep in good positions. But it's hard enough to change habits when you're awake! How do you change habits while you're unconscious???
Simply Saida my body tends to rl to my back on its own. I guess it doesn't like stomach sleeping all night long, all night, all night. All night long... But you make a great point. You can start off in a safe position and your body is going to do whatever it wants while you sleep.
I don’t move either in my sleep.. but i’m also a lucid dreamer so i can swap between my dream body and my awake body but if i change position irl i will instantly wake up so usually i just ignore any cramps or pains i get.. 2 days ago i had a huge leg/hip cramp but was in the middle of a pretty nice dream so i just ignored it despite even reacting to it in my dream and the person i was with in the dream literally going: you okay? And me just going yep just a leg cramp.. lucid dreaming is wack sometimes 😂😂
I am an 81 yr old long term happy side sleeper. My lower spine issues, at 46, prevented any other option. I used body pillows to hug and separate my knees but often one would fall off the bed. I recently bought a u-shaped "pregnancy" pillow and it is a dream!!! I got one long enough to support my feet and removed some pillow area fill so my head wasn't too high. In my queen size bed, it still gives me room to sit on the edge of the mattress before rolling over it. Your video was great.
@@Flowereacer89 I sleep on my stomach and rest my head on the side on a thin pillow, as i've been doing my entire life. I avoid large fluffy pillows as that would put pressure on my neck.
I can't sleep on my back, either. I have a nasty accident a few decades back and had to have major surgery on my abdomen. Recovery meant lying on my back for two weeks... I couldn't sleep a wink. If you need someone to stay awake to keep watch, I'm your man. If I just lie on my back, I will be wide awake all night, no matter how tired I am. My favourite sleeping positions are the ones this video tell you not to use. I think they are right, I'm having problems with my neck, but what to do? 🤔
I love watching you guys. I sleep on my side, and have shoulder pain right in the joint which was diagnosed as arthritis, so I really wasn't sure exactly how to place my shoulder to not cause worse pain. You guys answered my question! Thank you so much.
Hello Lee Ann, it's a great pleasure meeting you here, may God bless you and your family... How are you doing over there? And how are your business and family?
Oct 16 2022, just found this video. Im a side sleeper with shoulder issues! I will put what I learned to use and it looks like some relief is in the future!!! THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH!!!
Honestly, it doesn't matter how you go to bed, in the morning were all hanging half out of bed, back twisted like we've had an exorcism in a pool of dribble.
A good sleeping position for me is laying on my back. That way I know I normally don't wake up or move at all. If I wake up or change position, I know something is wrong about my diet or psyche and I'm not sleeping well for that reason. It's become a good way of knowing about my overall health
I love that canal, the pillow hug and the pillow between the knee. But the cervical pillow is uncomfortable and that foam is hot so I just have a fat firm pillow to elevate my neck. I can also sleep on my back with a knee roll, a hip roll and a thing I do with a flattish pillow to level the neck and support the shoulder. Thing is we’re all going to move in our sleep so it becomes a tussle. 🤷🏽♀️ I recommend separate bedrooms too🙄 after the wild thing, of course. 😜 Morning yoga helps unkink things and get the blood flowing to cramped overworked joints and pinched nerves. What a process the body is. You guys are the best🥰
I'm 64 and have slept on my side since I was a kid. No shoulder problems or back problems. The only back problems I have had were pulled from lifting incorrectly. I do change my pillow often and do not allow it to get flatten out. Good videos
I am a lifetime side/fetal-position sleeper. I've had to train myself from only sleeping on my right, as I've been promoting right rotator cuff issues by doing so. It's taken a while, but I'm almost there. By doing so, I'm reducing the strain on my right shoulder by 50%.
Because you guys mentioned it, "Bob and me" is the correct way. Easy way to check is to take the other person out of the sentence and see if it makes sense eg "if you're like me..." works, "if you're like I" doesn't. "Bob and I saw a dog" = "I saw a dog" v "me saw a dog" :)
Incorrect. I majored in English & Philosophy. My professors would have been upset if I made a basic mistake like that. It's "Bob & I" not "Bob & Me" or "Me & Bob". In the latter case it should be "Myself & Bob".
Emily See this doesn't make a lot of sense - you say both "it's 'it's bob and I" and "it should be myself and bob". Which is it? A lot of schools teach what OP said.
mad dy My professors at the University of Kentucky who hold PhD's taught me otherwise. That's who I'm going to abide by when it comes to whether grammar is correct or it isn't.
It doesn't really matter in every day conversation. There's really no point in discussing it. I just know I was corrected anytime I said "and me". I was told to say "and I". Just going by what I was taught in college.
VERY interesting indeed! I have a mattress suitable for my size, weight and sidesleeping. To aid me in sleeping on the side, I bought a pillow that has a slight pyramid shape, which means that when the topped side of the pillow is down, it tracks into the area between head and shoulder. I have never had such a wonderfully comfy pillow, bought it at IKEA of all places.
As a side sleeper I always had a "sore" lower shoulder but leaning back slightly as you said helped a lot. I tuck another foam pillow behind me to help support the angle and it's the most comfortable sleeping position I've ever found. I also added a latex topper to my bed so that it gives a little more under that shoulder. It's very cozy in the winter but can get a little hot to sleep with all of those pillows in the summer :) Finally found a latex pillow that is deep enough to support my head properly. Thanks for the great ideas!
Debbie B same lol. It’s honestly the only position where I can fall asleep quickly. I don’t get head aches either. Maybe the occasional headache but I don’t get them really
Ur spine is heavier than ur soft organs. So by sleeping on ur stomach ur spine is pressing on them n addition to realigning to another form. It will start to appear later n life.
sleeping on the right or left side with a slight curvature of the spine works for me. Because of snoring I usually avoid sleeping on my back. Sleeping on my stomach requires keeping the neck on either the right or left side for a certain period of time which also does not work for me. But every body is different & what works for one person is not necessarily a cardinal rule, I feel.
Belly sleeping creates face wrinkles too. To help me sleep on my back I used those travel neck pillows. Makes it more comfortable and less weight on the neck.
A physio once told me to sleep any way that I find comfortable. I have a spinal cord injury and am a wheelchair user. I find sleeping on my right side the most comfortable. Sometimes I have a pillow between my knees and ankles. This helps relieve pressure on my lower back.
Wow! This explains my right shoulder impingement…side sleeping messing up my shoulder joint. Especially when napping on a couch (which I’m infamous for). Stretches and minor sleep changes have helped tremendously! You guys are amazing!
I love sleeping on my right side but quite often have a sore left shoulder in the morning. This video was helpful and made me aware of how I position my left arm.
Right but do you have a convex / concave sternum? I had both, simultaneously, all my ribs crossed up right at my sternum and I'd always get flushed cheeks when running. Fixing my sleep position wouldn't have fixed that positional injury, sadly, at least not in a quick enough time to matter.
Omg. This is a tremedous help. I've finally found the solution to my shoulder pain problem. I can't sleep without side lying but I wake up with really painful shoulders. Now, I've found a solution. Thank you so much
I used to be a stomach sleeper. Started having neck pains, realized the source (twisting my head all the way) and I was about to modify my mattress with a hole for my face. But, I started sleeping on my side. I use 4 or 5 pillows to get just perfect and painless.
I sleep with a pillow between my knees. It relieves stress in my back. When I have slept with my knees together in the past, I wake with back and abdominal pains. Pillow between the knees are a must for those of us who sleep in a cradle often.
Great ideas many of which I use. I find I’m replacing My pillow between the knees every time I move from side to side. I also struggle with keeping the covers o when I’m shifting
I know you’re going to say the one most comfortable for me, I’ve noticed this past year it’s what makes that little angled tendon on my hip hurt and disrupts my movement all day
We cannot eat 90% of food we normally eat, we cannot exercise the way we have been doing for years. Now we cannot sleep the way we have been for 3O years. I am fed up.🤔
Dont put too much into this. Their view is solely from "their" side of the isle. I recently got into a deep dive on sleeping positions and Im "side-sleeping" 100% since I found out that our glymphatic pathways(important in clearing toxins from the brain during sleep) are a LOT more active when sleeping on your side than your back. Most primates sleep on side or slightly towards the stomach. A ton of research shows that sleeping on the side is definitely the best way to prevent various nerulogical diseases(Alzheimers/dementia) when it comes to sleep. I, for one, would rather have a bad shoulder than either of those 2 diseases.

I never have headaches and nearly always sleep on my stomach with one or the other arm stretched up under the pillow. I don't get numb or stiff either, I sleep just fine, like a log. If I sleep on my side I tilt forward not backward to take the pressure off my shoulder joint, because it's more comfy. Can't lay on my back at all, not even for a few minutes, (old impact injury to pelvis and spine, was serious.) I use feather pillows because you can maul them about, fold them in half etc, to get them exactly the right thickness and firmness. Doing that to any other type of pillow will kill it. :)
I’ve slept laying on my stomach with my head turned to my left shoulder for 20 years, no rotation of the neck durning night except for the very ocasional time I wake up facing upwards. So far I have never experienced any sleep related neck pain nor do I get migraines or headaches and when I do get them is usually because of dehydration.

Thanks guys, I’m 63 and still working on my sleep positions. I’ve seen a side sleeper molded pillow with cutouts to cradle you in the perfect side sleeping position with no pressure points, but it’s about $250.00. It’d be worth it if it works. I’m just about to get some Velcro pjs and stick myself to my walls, a pair with a Velcro sleep mask. lol
Neat! I was scared to see my side position in the thumbnail, but I do the "arm canal" and neck support with extra pillows, plus a body pillow to keep my upper arm in a neutral position and my knees spaced. So I'm actually doing something right for once! 👍

It's all very well to say that there are certain positions you must avoid when sleeping, but when you are asleep, your body automatically gets into the most comfortable position, so how do you deal with that?
Use pillows and blankets to try and immobilize your sleeping body :)

I do much the same. When I stay with family or friends I just tell them they can't possibly provide my pillow requirements!
Indeed my friend!!!
@@NovelVanguard a bit late but id imagine softer is better on the stomach, especially for your hips, but mostly just preference. whatever you find comfortable is fine

David Helseth same lol. I go to sleep on my stomach but I wake up on my back. It’s the only way I’ll fall asleep lol
1 or 2 pillows between the legs relieves when you have sciatica, it allows you to find sleep, sometimes!
I don't know why they didn't mention the pillow between the knees,
that helps me most when I am side sleeping
I use three My Pillow travel pillows for my ankles, knees and a cuddle one to rest my arm on. I use the regular My pillow for my head as it supports my head with no pressure points - I used to wake up with a sore ear and it cured my TMJ. I also warm a wheat bag every night for my feet. The good thing also is that they squish into my suitcase for travel and they fluff right up again. They also are perfect for the beach and travel - I take them everywhere.
@@Joycer2002 how did you cure your TMJ
Still very helpful! I'm pregnant now and need to sleep on my side but I started experiencing shoulder pains. Now I know how to solve it! Thank you!

Because you guys mentioned it, "Bob and me" is the correct way. Easy way to check is to take the other person out of the sentence and see if it makes sense eg "if you're like me..." works, "if you're like I" doesn't. "Bob and I saw a dog" = "I saw a dog" v "me saw a dog" :)
budap001 Oh shit that's a good tip. Thanks! Lol I always have trouble with that one and I felt like an idiot!
I am using the foam pillow with the thicker part supporting the neck. The lower part keeps the head from tilting too far down. Works great for me.

I was always told not to have 1 part of your body to make impact with another . Arm separate - legs separate at all times and be on your back
I’ve slept laying on my stomach with my head turned to my left shoulder for 20 years, no rotation of the neck durning night except for the very ocasional time I wake up facing upwards. So far I have never experienced any sleep related neck pain nor do I get migraines or headaches and when I do get them is usually because of dehydration.
Same for me for the last 10 years or so
Exactly
maybe not u in particular but there have been studies that prove that ur sleep position and how u sleep affect ur day to day life take this comment with a gain of salt if u want but I do believe u will see a difference when u get older like 40 50 60
You sleep on your back and wake up facing upwards? Are you an owl?

Thank you for your help with shoulder pain from side sleeping
Woke up with no shoulder pain
move mattresses about 6-8 inches away from headboard, leaving box springs in place, this creates a gap for your arm, works for me!
@@SqkTap draw back to this is the gap can eat your head/ neck pillow... causing hard droop in head and neck support, which with either immediately wake you, or you will wake with terrible neck pain, shoulder pain, or headache.... and a I migraine prone person myself..I avoid any headache trigger I can as it can lead to the full blown migraine.
The information on linking sleep position and headaches has reduced my migraines with 80% amazing, docs hadn't figured it out and just prescribed drugs. Big Thank You!
I haven’t even watched this video yet. I just came here to thank you guys for all the good advice you have shared. You’ve helped me quite a bit over the years.
I fall asleep on my back and usually wake up in a fetal position. Sucks when your neck is scerwed up or your shoulders. Great video guys. Thanks much.
When I sleep on my back, I have the worst dreams.
Huy same the best ones are when i’m on my stomach though.. 😂
Me to brother its like heart attack lol why is that happening
Also sleep paralysis
I get sleep paralysis

Why is there no bed with a face-hole like a massage table so you can lay prone face down? Wtf?
Thomas Gunkler build it
John Boy they will come
sydyst 😂🤣
I have thought of that too!!
They have pregnancy pillows that have holes for the belly and face.
Glad I finally found this I sleep terribly and have back problems all the time I’m going to try this right now
