    Bob and Brad, I have to sincerely thank you for all of these videos regarding herniated discs. I am a young firefighter that unfortunately obtained herniated discs in my L4-L5 and L5-S1. I’m living day to day in constant pain and some days are worse than others and I get pretty depressed thinking about my future on a career level and social/family level. Many of these stretches and exercises help quite a bit and make the days not as bad. I’m continuing to try and stay positive and hope I can get somewhat back to normal!

    I'm 26 and have 3 bulging discs. I'm depressed about it bc fitness is my life and my back has been hurting so much the past few months. I hope mine get better bc fitness is my career! EDIT: My scan did show 3 bulging discs but 1 according to the doc was causing significant pain. The others were not bad according to him. I am doing much better and have done a lot to improve. I still have chronic back pain but not severe like it used to be and I have to work around it when exercising.

      Hi Diana, this is just my own opinion as I've got a bulging disc as well.
      If the pain is shooting down your leg, then go see a doctor and determine if you need a operation.
      I didn't have any pain shooting down my leg but my whole back was cramped and really sore.
      Had to go see a physio to massage the muscles that had cramped up and wait for the inflamation to decrease.
      Your physio will determine when you are ready to start light excercise rehab for your back.
      They had me to start off with ab excercises on one of those gym excercise ball 3 sets of 10 / slowly progress to lunges, no weights 3 sets of 10 and light back excercises.
      Probably stay away from deadlift and squats until you feel no more pain.
      Also check out Alex from Alphadestiny, his a strength and conditioning coach. He has videos on excercises to help with bulging discs.
      It took me almost 8 months for the pain to slowly go away and another 1 more year to build up my confidence again.
      Don't give up on what you love doing 😀
      You need to see a physio to massage

    HUGE THANKS -- after going to 2 different chiropractors over the course of ~6 months (sometimes 2 x per week) I was having inconsistent and minimal progress fixing my 5 bulging discs; I'd feel good one day after the alignment... then something would "slip out of alignment" (that's how it feels anyway)... and I was out of whack until my next Chiro appt.
    I had really lost all hope (even cried in the Chiro's office out of frustration and resignation that at age 50 I'd be facing the rest of my life in pain and limited movement. Yet after doing just a few of your exercises (including some from one of your other vides) for ~2 minutes at a time 3x in a row ---- I was walking pain free, no longer feeling out of alignment, no pressure on hips and knees due to being so out of wack!!!! Now, each time, I feel something "slip", I lay down and do ~3 mins of exercises and I can feel things getting back into place. AND my back is staying more and more in alignment for longer periods at a time.
    Definitely a special place in heaven for you both. I cannot express enough thanks!

      When my low back herniated in July or August of 2014 that was a very first symptom I had was low back pain and I had a little bit of tinglingness in my legs but it went straight to the bottom of my feet and I had a stand-up job. It was worse sitting down for more than 20 minutes.
      I can't sit for more than about 15 minutes. 20 of the most. About 3 or 4 months after it herniated and the weather got cold it was absolutely unbearable and the next year it was even worse. If I knew then what I know now I would have tried to do absolutely nothing and lay down on my side and would have rusted my back for about 6 weeks and not lifted anything that weighed over eight or nine pounds just to see if it healed. Sometimes they'll heal on their own but if they don't, the only thing you can do is do everything not to aggravated any worse..
      .

      @@montrelouisebohon-harris7023 thank you for sharing your experience. How are you doing now? I am finally beginning to see some relief, but it’s very slow. I’m finding that the recover is not smooth linear improvement but rather quite a bit of up and downs. I’ve completely ditched anything other than Dr. Stuart McGill’s approach. Ever since following his rehabilitation guide in his book “Back Mechanic”, I have begun to heal. Wish I would have found Dr. McGill years ago! Truly the world expert in lower back injuries. It’s very sad that the medical field makes this injury worse by prescribing horrible physical therapy with stretches that only make the condition worse as well as rushing to surgery when it is not needed. Once I did what Dr. McGill recommend and stopped “picking the scab” to allow my discs to heal, I began seeing improvement and only then.

    • @7THxSIGN
      @7THxSIGN 2 года назад +1

      @@ThonColinFilms Hello. First I completely understand what you are going through. My spine surgeon told me he didn't think my burning feet was due to my L5/S1 disc bulge. He sent me to a foot surgeon in his same office who said the same thing. They sent me to get a EMG nerve test done. That doctor found my nerves to be normal. So all three of these "doctors" agreed my feet burning wasn't due to my disc injury. Now here is where you need to pay attention. These doctors are the doctors that my workman's comp told me to visit after I fell at work which caused my disc injury. I decided to get a second opinion and saw a podiatrist out of my own pocket and another nerve doctor as well. Both those doctors stated the burning in my feet was due to my disc injury. I also paid out of my own pocket for a separate more competent PT who told me that the burning in my feet is most likely due to my disc injury and showed and explained it to me in my MRI. So I am honestly lost at this point, I have the doctors who i paid out of my own pocket to see telling me that the burning in my feet is due to my disc injury and the workman comp doctors telling me its not, maybe they are trying to save my workman comp money by not covering it. I dont know. The burning hasn't gotten worse. But it hasn't gotten better either. Our medical field in this country can be a huge joke. It seems that most doctors just dont care.

      No meds just did exercises 1. on stomach on floor, hands flat , straightening arms head up and back to get bend in back to push disc back in or 2. Stand facing wall, put hands on wall and curve waist toward wall and shoulders back. Also always supporting lower back to keep curve. No slouching. Works and can do multiple times a day until disc back in place.

    TRUE STORY-Found Bob and Brad yesterday after coming home again from the gym w/pain in my lumbar region. [Previous MRI indicates mild to moderately large bulging at L2 -3 through L5-S1]. Performed some of the stretching exercises right in front of my laptop. Today the pain was almost non-existent. Usually it lasts for about 3 to 4 days before I can feel comfortable again. Extra bonus...I felt taller, more erect, as I walked around today. FYI, I am not a doctor and I DO NOT recommend anyone taking any chances like I do. But tonight, kickboxing. I will let you know how it goes.

    disc bulge can also cause radicular systems via irritating the nerves...
    Mckenzie also states the centralisation phenomenon so although Bob & Brad are correct with 'you should get a relief of symptoms right away' 9:45- the literature states that if pain diminishes in the feet, legs or thighs but pain increases in the lower back, then that is a good positive sign

    Useful tip: download some pictures of the human body and draw the patterns of pain once a week. It is useful to see how the patterns of radiation change with your physiotherapy. Note which activities provoke pain and numbness. Symptoms often tell more useful information than an MRI because sometimes a bulge does not cause any symptom. It is pretty normal to see some type of discopathy in someone over 50 years of age.

    Hi I am new to these videos and currently suffer from 2 bulging disks and 2 herniated disk from falling on ice. Originally I had dislocated my coccyx bone but once physical therapy popped that back in place 2 bulging disks came into view later. I went from being paralyzed waist down to feeling nothing but burning numbing pain down both of my legs. Physical therapy helped me pick up my spine again and my left nerve corrected itself but later down the road my right sciatica nerve got angered. I went through many doctors. My surgeon told me surgery would be wise but I took the other 2 ways out. Pain management made it worse with the steroid epidural injections causing to form 2 herniated disk in my L4 and L5. Bulging is S1 and something else. I have bad scoliosis. Now I go to a chiropractor and alittle helps. The TEN unit helps. It's still hard to sleep at night and I go to talk to my orthopedic surgeon in May. I've never had surgery. I am 19 years old and scared but my nuero things that this is best and he will give me physical therapy after the surgery. I find these videos very helpful and I hope I can find an excersice that helps me bc sometimes I can't even get out of bed and barely walk. My ankle feels sprained and twisted all the time, back feels kicked in, butt cheek hurts and muscle in leg (hamstring) feels pinched.

    I had an mri recently done and just was told I had bulging discs in my l4-l5 l5-s1 and it was awful news for me but I kind of figured because after all I had so much pain I just knew it was probably something like this. So anywho I still just started crying right then afterwards and I know I was just emotional and still hurting but the mri tech just told me dont worry about it and do some situps and it will help it go away. I didn't say anything but ok and walked out but thos infuriated me i can barely get out of bed and he was telling me to do sit ups. Im not overweight I actually am in good physical shape and some people think back problems are due to weak cores. I just wish people who dont really know what they are talking about would just keep their mouths shut sometimes. Thankyou for these videos though, it's hardbecause so many people have opinions that conflict and its so hard i just like that you guys really realize how it feels to get in and out of bed like the reality that some of us experience and dont minimize it.

    Hey Guys,
    Great video. Keep up the good work. I have been dealing with three herniated discs with mild to severe pain for the past 16 years. What is the best way to strengthen the back and support the healing process? The pain often spreads from the lower back to the left leg. I can walk but definitely cannot run or do any exercises.

  • @mikehorlick6389
    @mikehorlick6389 7 лет назад +4

    Hi guys. Thanks so much for the videos! I've learned more from you than the physio I go to!! I'm on week 5 of a herniated disc. The pain is definitely centralizing as its now in my right glute. I am doing the Mackenzie stretch however I find that as the pain moves up as I stay in the stretch longer I still have this lingering tightness in my Achilles, no pain in calf or thigh and then I feel it in my glute. I'm not sure if I should be concerned with that lingering in my Achilles. Also, as the herniation heals is there the potential to still have left over nerve pain? Or once the herniation is healed all pain is expected be gone? One more thing...sorry....you said in one video not to cycle, I started cycling again last week as i wasn't having any pain with it, would you recommend not until all is settled? I'm someone who is used to working out 3-5x/wk so not being able to do at least something is difficult!
