Thank you for making this absolutely essential guide! I am about to get an OLED in a few weeks and attempt a transfer. Older guides tell us we need to make a new Nintendo account on the target switch but this newer guide looks like that issue is resolved! Thank you for the clarification and the visual step by step because it’s really what I needed to see to erase any anxiety about the process. ❤️
Thankyou so much for making his video! you are the only one Ive found that talks slow and clear for me to understand. Also the steps were easy to follow along.
This is the best and most in depth tutorial i’ve seen on the transfer process. I lost all my data when i got the animal crossing switch because i didn’t know what i was doing. This video saved my boyfriend of the same fate as me! Thank you!
Thanks for such a comprehensive guide. I ended up getting the new Zelda OLED, so it's nice to have a really simple guide on transferring everything over!
Thank you so much for going over each step step by step! This was very informative and helpful for setting up my new switch I got recently and for updating animal crossing to my other switch! Thank you!
Thank you for your video, it was very useful to save my wife's game. Her nintendo switch screen was broken yesterday and today I transfer her island to a new console. Thank you.
omg thank you so much!! i procrastinated this process so much to the point that i stopped playing the game for months lol. This was such great help!! It was easy and fast :)
Just got my new switch today (Oled) after having my switch lite for 2 years! I have loved my switch lite but have wanted to upgrade for a while now as I wanted a bigger screen/better screen quality and also to play on a tv/monitor. This video has been great to help me transfer everything over and also transfer my animal crossing island which I did not want to loose 😂 thank you so much! Great video!
Thanks a bunch Georgia!! Glad to hear you found the video helpful!! Nice, I have always been a fan of the Switch lite, but I definitely like having the option to dock and play on a display. You will love the OLED too!! Games look so pretty on the OLED display!!
Thanks, super helpful. I had chose 'NO' when asked if I was going to use the old console thinking that it would transfer everything. Ended up having to log back in with my user and perform this transfer.
This was The Best guide of the 4 that I watched before really getting the method. Thx so much man- Great explanation, step-by-step, and clear! For others with a transfer situation similar to my own, I had one other account that shared the island with me on my original switch, so after making sure "Island Back up" was enabled, I ported them both over. I also updated the game on new Oled system prior, and installed all dlc beforehand too. Worked like a charm 🎉
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I have been worrying about what to do to transfer my animal crossing data and I was afraid of having to start over again. Although I have yet to buy my OLED this will be helpful for when I get it. Again Thank you!!!
What a relief after watching this lol, thank you for making this easy to follow guide! There were other instruction videos that mentioned having to make a new Nintendo account for the target switch (and that confused me tbh haha). I also appreciate your step by step explanations
Thank you for this video! I was kind of stressed about transferring my save data, especially my island, so this helped me so much. I have Animal Crossing downloaded virtually, so I wasn't sure if I'd need to buy it again, but the eshop showed that I had bought it, so I was able to download it to my new Switch no problem. I feel much more at ease now!
Thank you so much for making this video since this is exactly the one I'm looking for. Cause I only have one user account on my Switch. Once again, thankyou!
Thank you for making this video! I am about to do this process soon, but I was wondering during the transfer, does it matter where the physical game card is inserted in either system? Thank you!
No problem Andrew! Glad to hear you found it helpful! Luckily when you transfer the save data from each game, it doesn't matter and you do not have to have the game cartridge either old or new system. It is essential just moving cloud stored data from an old system to a new system
Hey thanks so much for the video, this was the best and clearest video yet I've seen on this topic on youtube so far! Just a quick question: Did you purchase a brand new ACNH game on the new switch? Or do yoy only need to do that if you plan on playing AC (2 diff islands) on both switches?
My pleasure, very happy to hear you found it helpful!! So I purchased Animal crossing from the eshop and played it a while one my original switch, then transferred that island to my new switch and continued playing that island. You could start a new island by downloading the game and skipping the island transfer.
Thank you for checking out the video Amanda, glad to hear you found it helpful!! That is a good question, If I had to guess I would probably have the cartridge in the old console while the data is being sent over, then once the transfer is complete you put the cartridge in the new console when launching the game. I am not 100% on this since I had the digital copy but hopefully this helps 🙂
I’ve watched several videos on how to do this, and nobody has clarified this well: I have one Nintendo account and one user profile, I am the resident representative on my island. I have no additional residents or other user profiles. Question 1: If I transfer my Nintendo account/user data onto my new system, will it delete my save data (including my island) on my original system? (I’ve read that if you do the user profile transfer before doing the island transfer tool, you can lose your island because your save data cannot be accessed without a Nintendo account/user profile, nor can you use the e-shop to use the island transfer tool) Question 2: Do I need to make an additional Nintendo account/user profile on my new system to transfer my island and my character? Question 3: Is your in game character/save data connected to an Nintendo account, or is it completely separate? can you access and play your character/island from any account?
If you watch through the whole video it will probably answer these questions, but I will try and answer them as best as I can . Question 1: 2:38 on the video time stamp will answer this question. If you answer no, you are not keeping you old switch, I believe it will factory Reset and delete all the save data on your old switch. Question 2: You do NOT need to create a second account to transfer your island. If you simply follow the steps in the video, you will See you don’t need a second account. Question 3: Your Animal Crossing Save data is not linked to Nintendo save data in any way, hints why they have the island transfer tool. You could play you island from another account as long as that account owns a digital or physical copy of the game, but you will have to use the Island transfer tool also. Hope this helps out.
Thank you so much for the video! So, the transfer process completely wipes the data off the old switch? I am very happy this is game by game, so I can control what data is transferred, since I am not fully retiring my old Switch. If I do the transfer data, then just don't hit Animal Crossing, and do not ever go through the transfer process, all of the data of other games on my old Switch would be wiped, but my existing Animal Crossing save would still be there, right? Meanwhile, all of my save data would be on the new switch, but I would have a second island on there, correct? That is what I ideally would like to have happen. Would the games on the old switch purely act as new saves at that point? Transferring save data, especially with Nintendo products, has always concerned me and stressed me out, so I just want to make sure I am very sure on what I am doing before doing anything lol. Also, will my two islands then be able to play together, even if I am on the same account on both? How does that work? I would like to have a way to play on both islands on multiplayer, online too, if possible. I also want to have all of my save data for games like Tears of the Kingdom on the OLED and Splatoon 2 + 3. I know I just watched this video and know how the process works, but I am nervous of doing something wrong lol. Thank you for the video!!
My old 2017 Nintendo switch was keep having issues left and right. Got tired of it and it’s about time I upgrade. Probably going to get the new Zelda Nintendo switch within the next few months, this video would be helpful because of how much important data I have on my animal crossing game (mostly the villagers and letters I have). Hopefully this works and goes to plan once I do get my Oled switch.
Great video! 1 question...instead of getting a new sd card I am using the one from my old switch. Should I wait until all of these steps are complete to insert the old sd card into the new switch?
Hello, this is a very good tutorial, but one thing I'm a bit worried about. I only have the one SD card in my current switch that I plan to use in my new switch. Do I need to already move my SD card over to the new switch, or do i keep it in my current switch until the transfer process is complete?
@@JakeVirdenTech Would you recommend that I back up the data on that SD card, and then update my old SD card that was in my old switch and put that back in my old switch, and then start the new switch with the newer SD card?
hi! so i wanted to do this, tho my old nintendo’s account has been transfered to my new one. and if i try to go into any game or to the shop, it will tell me to sign in to the account. so basically i cant transfer my island. how do i fix it?
Can you put a new microsd card into the new switch OLED for the save data to be transferred by the old system to be saved on that new microsd card instead of the old microsd card from the old system?
Save data is only stored on the console instead of the sd card, so the only way to transfer save data is either by sending the save from one console to another or downloading from the cloud.
Hey Jake great video!! i was wondering if u can make a video about the best keyboard/mouse/headphones/earbuds under 50 bucks or 100 there r alot of options to choose and im a bit confused pretty sure it will be a good video thanks alot❤❤ keep grinding🔥🔥🔥

I’m so bummed that I was completely unaware of this. I wiped my old console to factory & sold it before getting the new one. I just figured I’d be safe between the cartridge & my SC card. Tried to play Animal Crossing on the OLED & realized what I had done!
i’m getting an OLED soon since my Lite is acting up! but i have a question: do i NEED a new SD card for my OLED? or would i still be able to transfer data without a new SD card?
Hi Shreepa! That is a good question, for the safest data transfer, I would recommend getting a new SD card for the new Switch. if you use the old SD card in the old Switch, it will force you to format it.
Thanks for making the vid. Quick question: On Nintendo website, it says that “If the same Nintendo Account was used to download the Island Transfer Tool on both systems, use an alternate user to open the Island Transfer Tool on the primary console of the Nintendo Account.” Do I need to worry about this? I don’t know what this is really saying.
No problem Daniel, thank you for watching! I don't think you would have to worry about this, typically you want to use the same accounts on both systems and do a direct transfer that way. Transferring from one account to another would maybe cause some issues.
I have a question! Can i still transfer my island on my new switch which has a new user profile? I don’t want to transfer my old user data to my new oled switch and wanted to know^^
Hi @jackto-jn4hd, I used one account for this video. The Island transfer tool allows you to run it on multiple devices simultaneously for transfer purposes.
Me and my sister are going to exchange our switches, I have a lite and she has a normal one. We have both played animal crossing, so we have seperate islands. If I send my data to the normal swich, what will happen to the saves that were already on it. Will they be delted and then I can't transfer her saves to the switch light?
Hi Kelly I am not exactly sure on this, but you might be able to reset and reinstall and your island will remain, I think the island transfer tool is strictly for going to one Switch to another.
Since I already have a micro SD card on my old switch, do I have to get a new one for my OLED? I’m worried that the new switch will wipe out my old SD card.
That is a good question! As far as I know you will need a new micro SD card, you could use the one from your old Switch but it will prompt you to format it during the new setup. You are correct, that will wipe out the old SD card.
Getting my new switch soon, im a bit worried because of the safety feature of not being able to open the same app on the same account. I have a Digital copy so im required to have the same account. Anyone know if this is the case or could i open it on both devices.
Can you transfer game data through an animal crossing game card? I was trying your video and it said that you have to have animal crossing on both and to select it, but I only have one game and it won’t let me do both at once.
Hi Nancy! With a hard copy, you will still need to use the island transfer tool since the save data still stores on the Switch locally and not the game card. If I had to guess I would probably have the cartridge in the old console while the data is being sent over, then once the transfer is complete you put the cartridge in the new console when launching the game.
@@JakeVirdenTech ok. Thanks! Do you think I should just get another game and use the island transfer tool. I tried but it said I needed to put in the game on my switch.
Dang Keith I am sorry to hear that, I think there is a way to recover it by contacting them. I do not know for sure though. I think you will still be able to access your island on the old switch as long as you haven't Played and saved on the new Switch.
Just today, I read another guy talking about having this same issue. Secondhand, so don’t quote me, but what he did seemed pretty cool and sounded like it’d be quite helpful. Worth a try anyway. He was saying something along the lines of having a second, different profile left on the old, source Switch also. He was able to download the tool using that profile onto the older Switch. Said he was then able to transfer the AC save data that way. Again, I only read about it, but just today and sounded fitting so i really hope it works. If you’re still trying, good luck, dude. I never knew any of this either. I don’t play the game, I’m doing something in this area with it too, but for my wife. My question is different, so I’m just looking for some sorta conformation that any of the various things I’ve learned would work, or for any other thoughts or ideas that could help. So good luck and have a good day.
If you didn’t have access to the old switch due to it not working, would they risk it getting bricked if they said they didn’t want to keep playing it at the beginning? Or would if just wipe the data?
Hi Amy! I do not know for sure, but I don't think it would brick the old switch. Essentially it would wipe the storage from the old switch as it transfered to the new one. That is ok as long as you dont have any games like Animal crossing that does not use Nintendo Save data.
@@JakeVirdenTech I got lucky and my switch came back to life (I thought the charging port was cactus) and I was able to get it all moved over. Which is lucky because I have ACNH. 😮💨
You can delete your user on the old switch when transfer complete Woomy. You can either sign out and remove your account from the switch or a factory reset might be the best option.
Hi Skittle! I did the same thing, you can install animal crossing and the utility on your new Switch and you should be able to transfer it over pretty easily.
Hey can u help me? Is there a way where i can still play animal crossing on my main account if i transfer it to a new switch? It keeps saying communication error and i keep seeing videos where people are using their main account while transferring their animal crossing island and they are able to keep all of their progress but it keeps saying communication error for me
@@Evebt21 actually the issue is fixed for me now. How i fixed the issue was that i connected my switches to the hotspot on my iphone and it worked perfectly after that. So maybe its the wifi, if it doesn’t work. So yea i was able to do it perfectly after i did that. So maybe that’s the problem if it doesn’t work.
This wont work for me, as i have the digital version and cant actually *transfer* the data, i already went to the eshop and it wants me to buy it again and i already transfered my data with the tool, so its basically just stuck there in the middle of the transfer process, making *ALL* of my island save data just gone forever, any advice/solutions?
Same so I guess it wants me to but a new copy of the game bc it needs both switches to have the game in order to transfer island but I don’t want to pay extra 60 just for it to not work
Now, what would happen if I transferred everything, then deleted myself off the old switch? Would it just remove me from that or delete my entire account and nuke everything across both consoles?
Also, could I not just select “no” to using the old one, then use another account on the old switch to transfer the island to the new one? I basically don’t want to be on the old one, but want my island. So like, I’d be erased, but then I’d use the island transfer tool off of another profile since it’s 1 island per switch.
Omg so what so i do ? I don’t want to keep my old switch but i want to erase it and sell it . I did already transfer everything even ACNH . But if i do a factory reset I’m scared it’s going to affect the new one too ? Since they are still showing the same thing I’m using my new one now but anyways would if affect my new one once i delete it ??? Pls help
@@JakeVirdenTech when i try to transfer my data, in the new switch after i click on « proceed » it says something like « communication error » (on the new switch) and i tried to redo it many times and it doesn’t work (btw sorry for my bad english im french)
@@pinkybeebee a couple things I would check is the version of the island transfer tool and make sure they are up to date. I would double check and make sure both Switch consoles are on the same WIFI or LAN network when attempting the transfer.
@@JakeVirdenTech they are up to date and it is the same wifi on both consoles. i tried to uninstall the transfer tool a few times to see if it will fix the problem but it still doesn’t work. i don’t know what to do /: i don’t know if my wifi is the problem or just the console
You have to download the island transfer tool on both switches and transfer your island that way. As stated in the video, Animal Crossing save data is not accessed through the console.

No problem Jade, very happy to hear you found the video helpful! 😊
can i do a factory reset on nintendo switch after transferring into the new one
i’m getting an OLED soon since my Lite is acting up! but i have a question: do i NEED a new SD card for my OLED? or would i still be able to transfer data without a new SD card?
I don't think you would have to worry about this, typically you want to use the same accounts on both systems and do
a direct transfer that way. Transferring from one account to another would maybe cause some issues.
I use a physical animal crossing instead of buying it online, is that ok and easy to transfer to my switch lite to switch oled?
Hi Ileah! Physical copy should transfer over the same way since the save data isn't on the game card or internal switch storage.
I have a question! Can i still transfer my island on my new switch which has a new user profile? I don’t want to transfer my old user data to my new oled switch and wanted to know^^
Wait does this work if you have the animal crossing game card instead of the digital downloads?
But how did you open the Transfer tool app on both consoles simultaneously? Did you use 2 different accounts??
Hi @jackto-jn4hd, I used one account for this video. The Island transfer tool allows you to run it on multiple devices simultaneously for transfer purposes.
Excellent explanation. Thank you!
Thank you!! Glad it was helpful!
Me and my sister are going to exchange our switches, I have a lite and she has a normal one. We have both played animal crossing, so we have seperate islands. If I send my data to the normal swich, what will happen to the saves that were already on it. Will they be delted and then I can't transfer her saves to the switch light?
Does it work for the Pokémon games?
Do you have any idea why it says a communication error occurred? It won’t let me save my old animal crossing data
Yo what if you have another island resident to transfer over , my gf plays on my island
Does import a user from another switch console mean the same as user data one
What if you're transferring save data from one account to another...is it possible to do all this, especially with ACNH?
This was super helpful! Thank you very much! Now I can play on my new oled than my switch lite!
What if I pressed no for using the previous console? Will I still get my animal crossing data?
I'm still stuck on the Switch finding another Switch process, how do I fix that issue?
Do you do the same process if you have acnh on a game card?
Hi @Saffins. It is the same process but I am not exactly sure where the game card needs to be at what phase in the process.
how do I save the data when not supported on cloud? like I want to reset the switch to factory settings?
Hi Kelly I am not exactly sure on this, but you might be able to reset and reinstall and your island will remain, I
think the island transfer tool is strictly for going to one Switch to another.
What do I do if I want to create a new Nintendo switch user and transfer my stuff onto that user
Is there a way to do this without the old console?
How can I delete user on my old switch after? I’m so afraid to do something wrong and lose it on my new.
thnx so much u saved my life~~~
Thank you for watching Chu pi, very happy to hear that!!
Thank you so much ☺️
Getting my new switch soon, im a bit worried because of the safety feature of not being able to open the same app on the same account.
I immediately transferred everything over without using the Transfer Tool. Is there anything I can do to recuperate my island?
Dang Keith I am sorry to hear that, I think there is a way to recover it by contacting them. I do not know for sure though.
I think you will still be able to access your island on the old switch as long as you haven't Played and saved on the new Switch.
@@JakeVirdenTech The thing is that I already transferred my profile. I have an empty profile on my old Switch.
So good luck and have a good day.
what happens if you ARENT going to keep your old switch??
Hi Pluto, I believe it nukes the data from the old switch if you select you are not keeping it.
When trying to transfer from home switch I keep getting an error message. Is that cause I need a SD card?
That might be the cause, even though the switch has some internal storage, it still might require an SD Card.
My data is not transferring to my OLED switch please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I factory restored the nintendo before the transference ! What to do ?
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Can I just delete my user on the old switch when transfer complete? I dont understand how.
You can delete your user on the old switch when transfer complete Woomy. You can either sign out and remove your account from the switch or a factory reset might be the best option.
what should I do if I bought Animal Crossing digitally on my old switch?
Hi Skittle! I did the same thing, you can install animal crossing and the utility on your new Switch and you should be able to transfer it over pretty easily.
It always tells me "Play suspended" because I open it on both consoles with the same account so I am so lost rn
Hey can u help me? Is there a way where i can still play animal crossing on my main account if i transfer it to a new switch? It keeps saying communication error and i keep seeing videos where people are using their main account while transferring their animal crossing island and they are able to keep all of their progress but it keeps saying communication error for me
Same for me!! Do you have animal crossing installed on both switches? Bc maybe that’s why it says error
Same so I guess it wants me to but a new copy of the game bc it needs both switches to have the game in order to transfer island but I don’t want to pay extra 60 just for it to not work
@@Evebt21 yeah i used two copies to do it on the oled. It still messed my save data up and i cant play online anymore, was on the phone with nintendo
Since they are still showing the same thing
I’m using my new one now but anyways would if affect my new one once i delete it ??? Pls help
hi i tried to do it like 10 times and it doesn’t work, there’s an error… i don’t know what to do can you help me?
Hey Luciel! Sorry I am just responding. Which portion of this tutorial are you
getting an error on?
@@JakeVirdenTech when i try to transfer my data, in the new switch after i click on « proceed » it says something like « communication error » (on the new switch) and i tried to redo it many times and it doesn’t work (btw sorry for my bad english im french)
i mean when i try to transfer my data of animal crossing
@@pinkybeebee a couple things I would check is the version of the island transfer tool and make sure they are up to date. I would double check and make sure both Switch consoles are on the same WIFI or LAN network when attempting the transfer.
@@JakeVirdenTech they are up to date and it is the same wifi on both consoles. i tried to uninstall the transfer tool a few times to see if it will fix the problem but it still doesn’t work. i don’t know what to do /: i don’t know if my wifi is the problem or just the console
I’m trying to send animal crossing but it doesn’t show🧐🧐
Are you able to send it back?
I don't know for sure, but I thought I recall seeing the Island can't be sent back. I could be wrong on this though
Animal crossing doesn’t appear when I click on transfer data save
You have to download the island transfer tool on both switches and transfer your island that way. As stated in the video, Animal Crossing save data is not accessed through the console.
The transferring save data option is nice and all, but not if you have tons of games... RIP
Mine keeps saying communication error occurred
I have that issue too. Did you ever get it working
Now I can’t delete my first user with this method, it’s frustrating
mane i have to do that for every single game..
And pokemon data?
Luckily Pokémon Data uses the regular Nintendo save data, works for all Pokémon titles and I believe it works for Pokémon home.
so u gotta buy the game a second time????
Nope everything can be transferred over as long as you are on the same account or have the game physically.
