When you realize Neil wrote most of their songs, including this one, and you actually read the lyrics, kind of brings a tear to your eye, because they lyrics are so well laid out, it paints a picture in your head, and pretty much every song is based on pure freedom and life in its purest form. Rush is and always will be timeless and rust proof. I wish they had a museum made for them entirely.

Neil got this song from a story he read in road and track and gives credit to the author in the liner notes to moving pictures. Years later he arranged to meet the guy and they rode their motor cycles through the Appalachians to Rush's next concert where he was given the vip treatment. 😊

MIDI didn't exist at this time...to paraphrase Geddy "we were doing MIDI before MIDI." The Taurus pedals are also triggering other synths...probably the OBXa or Jupiter 8. Listen closely you hear both a lower bass (Taurus) sound and a higher string (OBXa or Jupiter 8).

I always really loved this song a lot. I’m glad it’s not just me.
This is a gateway drug offered by the players to become associated with freedom by providing an exciting escapist thrill-ride so we could learn to enjoy our minds.
Listen, millions of people have come to the teachings of Peart through his always excellent efforts.
He taught us that we are above our captivity. He taught us how to see it. He rushed in and saved us.
I have an argument that Peart and Co. are QAnon. The graphic novel of 2112 just about proves it timing wise. But, either way, whoever is the Q Group, certainly have listened to and found their hearts for freedom partly by listening to, reading, and understanding the messages given to us by Rush. So, I salute the dynamic trio for soldering for nearly fifty years bringing millions upon millions of us to our senses and priming the pump which is now draining swamps worldwide in unison. We are all Q now. I think Rush definitely deserves a humanitarian award for their lifetime of service and making it sound good. Always outside of the system. Working.
I wonder how many people get this point?
Neil said that it was great to finally be “indicted” into the Rock Hall of Fame.
Lots probably thought him ignorant till he then said, “Perhaps we will one day indict all of you?” It was a play on induct.
Well, here we are. Could Peart through intention and practice actually become a functioning king through off-beat ensyncopation self-appointment?
I think that is what we saw.
He doesn’t like people to fawn over him. He hates it. It made him reclusive to spare the embarrassment.
However, others took the message to heart and also became individually excellent at something and then organized to save the world.
This is my opinion based of hundreds of facts and observations which go back decades and come to the present and form a united, goal oriented, path towards the love of truth.
Thank you gentlemen Gary, Alex, and Neil. Congratulations! You have changed the world.
      Carter from Louisiana

This old Aussie has been listening to this band since1974, without doubt three of the most talented musicians to have ever graced the planet, giving us diverse intellectual music with thought provoking lyrics, masterful playing and composers of the highest degree, can anyone tell me of another band that you can listen to the same song three times, but listening to just Neil's drums, then Geds bass, then Alex on guitar,I can't think of another band that can make you do that, we get triple value out of each song, just unberfuckingleavable.

He definetly knew somethings about the Bible and God. a few examples are distant early warning when at the end of the song he writes "Absolom' who is king Davids son who wants the throne his father has, before he is ready for it. Hence the title"distant early warning" and at the end of "big money" he writes "big money got no soul". And Jesus said" verily verily I say unto you,how hardly is he who has riches to enter into The Kingdom of God". so i pray that Neil and us all have believed in The Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior so we might all be forgiven of our sins and those who are no longer with us, taken into The Kingdom of Heaven. People sometimes wonder why this era produced the best music and best musicians ever. I’m only 34 but I know why… this was it, our freedom as a society & electronics were at the right spot, while there are pieces of it that have reached new heights society has become obsessed with other things, spending all the time you have growing up playing an instrument for fun isn’t a thing kids really do anymore. Instead of 3 great friends with amazing talents coming together and forming Rush they’re playing Rocket league, maybe they’re really good and make money from it, but it has no impact on society and won’t move future generations. Rush will!

My uncle has a country place
    That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
    Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
    And hop the Turbine Freight
    To far outside the Wire
    Where my white-haired uncle waits
    Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
    Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
    Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
    For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
    That hides a shining car
    A brilliant red Barchetta
    From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
    Responding with a roar
    Tires spitting gravel
    I commit my weekly crime
    Wind
    In my hair
    Shifting and drifting
    Mechanical music
    Adrenaline surge
    Well-weathered leather
    Hot metal and oil
    The scented country air
    Sunlight on chrome
    The blur of the landscape
    Every nerve aware
    Suddenly ahead of me
    Across the mountainside
    A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
    To run the deadly race
    Go screaming through the valley
    As another joins the chase
    Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
    I've got a desperate plan
    At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
    Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

The most cinematic 6 minutes of music ever written. There’s more story content in this one song than anything Hollywood is producing now a days. The imagery is so strong. I feel that even though we’ve never seen these characters and this setting with our own eyes, everyone who is listening pretty much has the exact same images running through their mind. That’s why Rush, to me, is the greatest band of all time. No other band would have the ambition, the courage, the forward thinking, or even the talent to try and attempt something like this.
