To my mind, Macklemore is doing mostly pop these days because of the Grammy thing. The hip-hop community is pissed at him not for "robbing" Kendrick. They are more mad at the arrogant feeling text to Kendrick he put out on social media. So, Hip-hop hates, so he went pop, thinking he might as well cash in on the pop market. The pop market doesn't care about him much. So he's hated by hip-hop and ignored by pop. I do feel he's genuine in things he does and he's not trying to appropriate anything. He's just playing unsuccessfully to the pop crowd, cause he knows they are only ones who might still give him a chance.
I get that but my thing is that people like Macklemore need to put in work. He didn't deserve the Grammys or as much attention as he got. That was all white money by industries owned by whites. He just took the bag and never gave back to the culture he was a guest in. Hip-Hop started with Black and Latin-American/Indigenous people. The game is still rigged against them, and a dude like Macklemore should recognize that and do his part in unrigging the game but he never even tried. Too many out here just like him. Wanna get that bag and run and live all cushy then shut the door behind him so he don't gotta hear folks dying out there while he enjoys his money passed down by slaveowners. Fuck all that
It's kind of scary how similar the career paths of Macklemore and Iggy Azalea are. Difference is Iggy doubled down on her stupid statements then retired (?) and has an OnlyFans now? I wonder if Macklemore is going to make an OF account down the line...🤐
