    One thing that has helped me with the donkey rig is as soon as it hits the water jerk and twitch it real fast for the first 8-10 foot. Make it a topwater and look like they are already getting busted by another fish. Then pause it for 3-4 seconds. Be ready in the pause. Thanks for the videos and keep em coming.

      Ive been doing that my last 3 trips with swimjigs and little swimbaits. I figured it out when I threw a bluegill back in and watched a bass instantly turn and destroy it and it made me think lol. Then I realized that's why most fish would swim up to it and follow it down stare at it and then I would start my retrieve and by then they lost interest. There is those random fish that will inhale it on the initial drop but it's rarer for me.

    A tip I use is to run a pop rivet through the nose of the fluke (helps it sink a bit faster) and then I run my line through the pop rivet and then I use a treble hook in the belly cavity (bury one barb and then you have an exposed hook on each side). It can be used in open water or cover and has helped me with my hook up percentage.

    Great video Tim, one of my absolute favorite tips from y’all is the screw in CPS with the nose hook, I have adapted it to many other riggings.
    One tip from me is if you don’t have to Texas rig the flukes…don’t. What I mean is just run a straight shank 3/0 or 4/0 flipping hook that has aa keeper on it and you don’t miss near as many bass.

    I love flukes because I can take them and Senkos out on my paddle board with one rod and can can have multiple presentations with the same hook. I usually go ahead and put a wacky rig band on a couple Senkos before I leave the house and I'm set for a few hours of fishing. Both baits work well on braid to floro.

    • @johnhildenbrand2642
      @johnhildenbrand2642 3 года назад +1

      @@ehronw7565 in SE Washington things aren't so bad, and depending on what part of Southern Oregon you are in, there are always rivers, and the higher mountain lakes to get to until the ice comes, K Falls reservoir comes to mind as a body of water likely still wet and not frozen, Prineville, Lake Billy Chinook...lots of options

    • @ehronw7565
      @ehronw7565 3 года назад

      I haven't tried those as they are a couple houra drive from here. I am fairly close to some of the mountain lakes like Lake of the Woods which is one of the few nearby that I can still fish. I just haven't had much experience or luck there yet. This is my first year with a boat so still figuring it out.

      @@ehronw7565 Best medicine for that is time on the water, it's not always great, but you'll look back one day and realize that you learned a lot more about fishing for bass (and safe boating) on the days you did it wrong than the days you got it right, I haven't fished Lake of the Woods personally, but I bet that a fluke fished anywhere there is a flat with a drop off to deeper water would get you bit if you followed that drop-off, if there's any live, bright green grass don't pass it up either, otherwise you'll be looking for docks, brush piles, boulders, anything hard that the fish can use to relate to, cover under/next to, and ambush out of.

    • @ehronw7565
      @ehronw7565 3 года назад

    A great way to back up (or OUTFISH) your Fluke rig in the fall is with a super finesse swimbait. The Bobby Garland Slab Hunt'R Finesse Baitfish 2¼" in Live Minnow or Threadfin Shad color OR Lake Fork Tackle Baby Boot Tail Shad 2¼" in Magic Shad color (notice the SHAD theme?!?!), both fished on a custom ³/¹⁶oz ball head w/a #1 black nickel hook, single strand, 50lb fluoro weedguard, wire-not lead- bait keepers, and ultra-realistic eyes and paint, fished on 6 or 7lb test spinning tackle can be BOMBED 60 yards and dropped UNDER the feeding schoolers, down to where the fat girls lie and eat what the skinny boys kill and let fall to them. It's just a finesse tweak on the ORIGINAL swimbait- the Sassy Shad. Give these tiny CRAPPIE swimbaits a try beside your flukes this fall. This is a Coosa River Spotted bass secret. 🤫 You may just get yourself a hundred bass day!
