Pike Fishing With Ledgered Deadbaits - With An Unusual Surprise!
In the autumn and winter months when the weather cools, many anglers turn there attentions to Pike and Predator fishing, with the Pike normally willing to feed on even the coldest of winter days.
Here at From The Waters Edge we like to keep our content relevant for the time of year so we fancied capturing a bit of Pike fishing footage, but unfortunately what Steve knows about Pike fishing can be written on the back of a postage stamp, so we acquired the services of good friend and Pike fishing supremo Oliver Harper.
We head out on the bank with Oliver to try and catch a fish or two on ledgered deadbaits, with the aim of picking his brain throughout the session and to see exactly how he tackles up for his winter Pike fishing campaign.
To find out exactly how we got on and to perhaps find out a few tips along the way, watch this latest installment, from the waters edge.
As usual we hope you enjoy it and any feedback is always much appreciated.

Nice video guys, and that sturgeon was mental! Least thing I was expecting. haha!
Thanks as always +Carl and Alex Fishing Haha... I know, what you saw on camera was genuine surprise!!! We were expecting an absolutely monster Pike and that popped its head up! Haha. Hope your fishing is going well. :-D Tight lines, cheers Chris.
P.S Carl - I'll be in touch very soon!! Apologies for the delay!
Thanks Ollie, Steve, and Chris, again another side of fishing I don't do but great video again, really enjoyed watching and learning about bait rigs etc, but I'm sticking with size 20's single maggot and bread for my next trip.
Cheers +Neil Etherington glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment! Haha, our next video with Ollie might be with single maggots and size 20's, he said he's going to take us proper Dace fishing, trotting on some small streams, so watch this space! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Starting my first Pike season this year. Liked the explaining of the rig. Really simple!

awesome video :)
Cheers +Jacks Games glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment! :-)
Surely using an up trace tied via a swivel to the main line means if you snap off the fish is going to be dragging that lead around as it cannot come free!?
The leads use quite a big run ring which can slide over the swivel.
Brilliant video, it's nice to see some diversity in what you do, have you ever considered going on a Catfish tour in Spain? It would make for a great film.
Thanks +Dan T glad you enjoyed the video! :-) We have actually, we debated booking something up next year and having a go for them! Steve went out a few years back and said it was awesome, he landed a few over 100lb I believe!!! Thanks again, cheers Chris.
Do it, the guys at Catmaster tours will put you on some huge fish, they've had them to 240lb
Hi there mate where about a are these waters would love to drop some cray pots in for signal cray fish whilst fishing also
Hi Ben, they are in Billingford in Norfolk. I'm not sure if you'd be allowed though, you'd have to check with the bailiff before you went.
Great vid lads! Enjoyed it! Keep 'em coming. ;-)
Thanks for the kind comments +Gary Shears we'll keep them coming! :-)
Great video, really enjoyed it
Cheers +questfish glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment! :-)
What type of wire do you use for your traces, I want to start twisting mine but the wire i use doesn't seem to twist
Hi Ross, I think it was Drennan 7 Strand wire. If you click the Tackle Box link in the video description it should take you through to a tackle list.
great vid guys.
Cheers +erwin philips glad you enjoyed it! :-)
love my pike fishing
It is nice Darren, cold winters day, you can't beat it!
From The Waters Edge Tv where else can I go, I've got some things and stuff for pike and carp, I have no idea where a begginer can go for little starter pike's? - Please reply after you get this, (that might be rude, so reply when your free.)
Hi Andy, it depends where you are from? Haha. I could give you a few options in Norfolk as thats where we're from, but if you're from the other side of the country I probably cant help! :-) Have you done a google search for Pike fishing in our area? Or for lakes and rivers?
Are you in england
Yes we are mate, in Norfolk, East Anglia.
sea fishing vids please today or tomorrow
We haven't got anything filmed +Conor Cox and we work 5 days a week, so we won't be able to I'm afraid. We should be out on the beach in the next couple of weekends though. Cheers

Hi Steve is this on billingford lake or river . Great video .
Hi Garry, it was the lake. Cheers Chris.
cheers Chris will be there soon.
What lake was that?
Billingford Lake in Norfolk.
From The Waters Edge TV is it food for carp?
Carp
I mean good sorry
Good informative video. Love my dead baiting but not having much success this season. As both fish were hooked out side of the mouth do you think they were just playing with the bait and got hooked by accident or do you feel they actually picked the bait up to eat it. ? Two good fish on the bank, just curious. Tim
Thanks Tim, glad you enjoyed it. I think both fish picked up the bait to eat it, we strike fairly early to avoid deep hooked fish, so thats possibly why the hooks were on the outside. We'd rather do that than deep hook them, especially Pike.
I'm new to pike fishing, what sort of rod do you recommend for going after them?
Hi +Stealth Hobo it really depends on how you want to target them? As you can boat or bank fish for them and use deadbaits or lures etc It also depends on how much you want to spend. If you want to fish how we were in the video them a 12ft 3lb test curve Carp rod would be suitable, something like the Fox Warrior around £50-60ish wouldn't be a bad place to start. Hope that helps a little. Cheers Chris
From The Waters Edge TV Thanks alot, I'll look into it - do you know how much a dedicated pike rod would be? I've heard you can get short and stiff rods (lets not go there hey? lol) that are dedicated pike rods for fairly cheep. Or, is the Carp rod still a better choice?
I wanted to go after pike with soft bait lures (the little plasticy things - I might have got the name wrong) or dead bait. However, I'd quite like something that's a good all round rod and that I can do things like spinning on too.
Thanks alot for the reply mate, you dont seem to see that alot on youtube anymore.
awesome :)
Haha, cheers +my boat, motorhome and fishing adventures glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Haha, cheers +my boat, motorhome and fishing adventures glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Hi, what lake was this at ?
hi pal just in case you ever catch another sturgeon dont use a landing net you can break their back they have cartilage like sharks do instead of bone and are prone to breaking when bent, good vid by the way
Cheers for the tip +sneak202 glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
when is the next sea fishing vid
Hopefully in the next few weeks +Conor Cox :-)
£100 + reel and he doesn't trust the clutch system back wind fanny.....
...? Doesn't trust the clutch or would prefer to use the back wind +Elitekiller72 I think it's a personal preference thing :-)
Please Can we have one today or tommorow because im going on holiday for 16 months
One of what +Conor Cox
If its personal preference then .... Why buy/use that reel he's not even using the bait runner ?
The bait runner isn't a drag +Elitekiller72 it's just used when the rod is on the rest enabling a fish to take line on the take (which we were using), you don't play/fight the fish on the bait runner. Every reel comes with a drag though, but it's personal preference whatever you want to use - back wind or drag,
To much talking not enough fishing
Apologies about that Michael, it can be difficult to get the right balance sometimes, alot of people like all the talking, especially on the rigs and tackle bits.
I love fishing you guys make me love it even more
Thanks +reece mcilwraith glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. :-)
