I'm originally from Coronado, California, home of many Navy Seals and where all Seals train during BUDS. I have known and befriended Seals. After joining the Air Force and serving in AFSOC, I was fortunate enough to occasionally work with SEAL teams and observe their incredible professionalism, skill, and the amount of work and dedication that goes into their profession. One thing that many people do not realize about the teams is that not only is their war time job incredibly demanding and dangerous, but their peace time training is as well. If you read a roster of SEALS that are no longer with us, many are listed as KIA (killed in action), but a substantial number are under the KIT (killed in training) column. Give honor and respect to these incredible men, they are a rare breed indeed.

Now here is a man i would like to see in politics. Imagine if politicians had 1/100th of the honor and respect men like this carry. If he could do good as a politician, i would like to see him in DC. He certainly has the votes if he runs. But i think that is the last place people like him want to be. Too bad because these kind of men are the only ones who should be there.

Unfortunately, I've lost most of my respect and most of my patience in the political class we have in our country. We need our politicians just like the Navy and Cost Guard need their flag officers and the Marine Corps, Army and Air Force need their general officers. But politicians---unlike the vast majority of the members of our Armed Forces---all too often fail to think of the people they are elected to serve rather than of themselves and their families. I'm extremely proud of what I hear by listening to Senior Chief (now Master Chief) Byers talks. Go Navy!

This sailor, Senior Chief Byers, is a gentleman. He is humble. I love the way he credits his team and his family. As a former Navy junior, I've grown to realize in the years since my dad left the Navy, just how important our families are to the lives of career Navy men and women. Hopefully I'll be a part of the Navy family to the day I die, even though my own service to the United States Navy while in uniform ended on 10 November 1971. Senior Chief (now Master Chief) Byers and his family will have my ever-lasting respect. Thank you men and women of the U.S. Navy.

    Senior Chief Byers,
I praise God and thank you (along with your brothers) for the countless sacrifices you've made for our country.
I pray to have even a fraction of the character and humility you've shown.
May He continue to protect you and yours, and all others who stand in the gap to defend freedom.

Bravo Zulu Senior Chief. I am most impressed with your dedication, fidelity, zeal and stamina as a SEAL. I know you won't get over the loss of your best friend, Nick Checque , but you'll get through it. Presently, I am half way through in writing a fictional navy book. You are going into the book, Away from Friction, which will be written in the highest traditions of the navy. All the best!
