Byers Jr. joined the more than 3,460 other Medal of Honor recipients listed in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes March 1, during an induction ceremony in the Pentagon Auditorium. One day after receiving the Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama, Byers was honored with a commemorative plaque that will be displayed within the hall. Byers is being recognized for his valiant rescue efforts during a hostage situation in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in December 2012. Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson spoke at the event. (U.S. Navy video/Released)
Is it just me or does this young man look every inch the part.? Healthy, very handsome, with a strong and capable look about him , his bearing and physical presence is everything one would envisage of such a Warrior. Just looking at him you can feel his inner power.
I would please ask that all negative comments and political opinions be kept out of this very patriotic video. Senior Chief Byers, on behalf of my entire family and friends I wish to thank you for your bravery, courage, valor and valiant fighting spirit as you have helped to ensure the safety and security of Americans everywhere. Please know sir that the sacrifices of your team will not soon be forgotten by me, my family and friends or our country, Americans everywhere stand with you and your family as you move forward with your lives, and we stand ready to help you in any way we can, best of luck to you and your family in all your future endeavors and once again thank you so much for your service to our great nation!
Thank you Jake!

He’s got a beautiful little girls I like how she keeps looking at her father with admiration. She is so proud of her daddy. I love it.
Well said sir.
Beautiful family and a great man. You can see how much his wife loves him with her unending grip, and his daughter when she smiles as he calls her name in his speech. And what a brave and courageous man, incredible.
The world needs more men like this
The Senior Chief was also awarded the Navy Cross and 5 - that's right 5 - Bronze Stars with Combat Valor pin. He represents what it means when people say "warrior." Next time you hear some idiot athlete use that term when talking about whatever sportsball they are playing - remember what this man and others like him have done for our country. That hostage is alive today and enjoying the rest of his life because of this man and the team that were there to rescue him.
Much respect from a former Marine.
He was never awarded a Navy Cross. "Manila John" Basilone was awarded a Medal of Honor and Navy Cross. Senior chief Byers no, with all due respect to the chief. As a Marine you should know that.
My uncle was awarded 1 Bronze Star and three purple hearts and I thought that was a big deal. Of course it cost him an arm and a leg, literally, both left behind in a jungle in Vietnam.
What's with you weirdos and mentioning athletes and taking their use of the word out-of-context? When an athlete says that do you seriously think they mean they're trained killers ready for a literal war? You dont sound like a badass when you say that, you dont sound patriotic. You sound like a slow person that doesn't understand nuance and the complexity of language.
Hes an american hero goddamnit
@@darcskies777 What! Seriously dude, have you lost your marbles? The term hero should not be used to describe a safety making a game saving tackle or a trained athlete hitting the ball one foot over a fence. It is used to describe the person pulling someone out of the water from a cliff face or someone cooling off a fire that has engulfed a load of 500 pound bombs in a replenishment accident so they don't cook off and kill 200 of their shipmates sleeping one deck below the flight deck of a carrier. Or the grunt running into bullets to get close enough to take out a machine gun nest. Ghoh with that bullshyt.
I can't believe some of these comments on here about his wife being Asian .....omg ... they are a beautiful family!! He seems very happy☺️

Senior Chief I praise God for your devotion of your duty and yes setting a example of all the Seals who put their life in harm's way everyday.God bless you and your family and I wanted to say politely to your wife she is so gorgeous .
what a humble, poised, unostentious man. What a beautiful family. Hannah is so lovely. God bless all our servicemen and women.
hlamb37. Senior (now Master Chief) Byers' family obviously have had and shall always have a huge role in this gentleman's (Byers') life. Watching this ceremony in late September 2020 brought many tears to my eyes. The Americans who served in our Armed Forces honorably---of all ranks---are the Americans I shall always be proudest of. Thank you for your service, and thank you, hlamb37, for recognizing the qualities of this wonderful family. And that you for acknowledging God in wishing him to "bless all our servicemen and women."
he didnt do nothing for me
@raymondcote2414 Well, improve your grammar and perhaps Santa Claus will bring you something nice this year.
Proud to have served with (then HN) Byers in 2000. We were the 2 most junior Corpsmen who earned our ESWS during the deployment. Proud of you man! Peace to you and yours.
Thank you for your service to our country Tony.

I also would like to thank Chief Byers for what he's done for our countrymen .
I'm also glad that he gave his family recognition. Our families never get any medals or sometimes even mentioned in the comments. My family kept our family as a place I knew I could come home to and rest . They allowed me to focus on the mission and not have to worry about if everything was going to be OK. My wife was my rock. She passed away 2 years before I retired. She loved the military life .
I've met alot of SEALS , I flew with JSOC on a EC130 that supported there mission . I've never met a more dedicated bunch of people who was focused on the mission. Willingly ready to lay down there life for you or me if need be.
My dad retired as a Senior Chief. Nothing but respect, Sir!
One of the best speeches I have ever heard. Humble, strong and focused. Thank you Snr Chief Byers.
Every time the highest award is given, it always comes with tragedy. I'm sure I speak for everyone who received the award that they would give it back to get the boys back that were the heroes didn't make it home.
Thank you for your service, brother. I remember a quote, " Where do we get such men?" To those who gave all, you will never be forgotten. Army, Nam 67 & 68.
Senior Chief Edward C. Byers Jr.Belated Congratulations ! Proud of You Navy Seal. I'm an Air Force Veteran from a Navy Family. You have a beautiful family. I watched the whole Induction Ceremony. It was beautiful.
Thank you to the Department of Defense and to the Department of the Navy for putting this solemn ceremony on RUclips. Prior to tonight, I have never seen the induction of anyone into the Hall of Heroes. I am most thankful to have been able to watch this video this evening. Senior Chief Byers' humbleness and his gift of oral communications and his compassion for his fellow team members and for his country came to me at a most appropriate time. Thank you to Senior Chief Byers' wife and daughter, to his parents, to his in-laws and to his brother. As a former Navy junior, as a lover of Navy history, I strongly believe in the value to the team of the strong family many of our service members have. Senior Chief Byers is the personification of "in the highest tradition of the Naval Service." Thank you to the Senior (now Master Chief) and to his family. And to our beloved United States Navy.
Senor Chief, what is left to say? Thank you. Your wife and daughter are blessed to have you in their lives and vice versa. I, like many people am struggling. Two of my three children have addiction issues, my best friend's son was just diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and a very, very holy woman I know just lost her second daughter to an overdose. This life is hard. Men like you, particularly with your dedication to St. Michael, bring HOPE to my heart when I need it most. Thank you for your DEEDS. In His love, Sean
I'm german, but i also don't understand why someone downvote this video! I would be very happy if our soldiers would be honored in a similar way!
I wish all the best for the soldiers and their families of our Allied Forces in the US!!!
I believe i can explain. There are some who don't understand that our Military members don't start a war, Politicians do.
Winston Churchill said it best..."Never was so much owed by so many to so few"
@@tj-kv6vr The same can be said for the police. It makes me angry when I see people protesting the police. The police are just enforcing the laws made by the politicians--and the people are the ones who voted for the politicians. It's hypocrisy.
It might be kind of respectless to downvote this video in relation to E.C. Byers and/or his family and brotherhood, but especialy as a german, who I am as much, there is a lot of problematic stuff shown in this video, that would give me a reason to downvote this (in fact I did not). "Our" soldiers, following the rules of so called "Innere Führung" (meaning inner guidance), would have the duty to deny the command on going into a "war on terror", because it is an inhuman and illegal war. Especially the Special Forces and the Drones are causing so much colleteral damage and human suffering all over the world that we can´t just leave this pathetic ceremonies and speeches uncriticized. Don´t get me wrong, most of german soldiers in the present days also don´t deny their commands in this context. So it may be right, that politicians start a war but only soldiers give them the capability to make it happen. It is an important lesson of World War II that every single person (soldier) has to take responsibility for one´s own actions.
@@manlius You're just hiding behind the politicians. If you were Rodney King or George Floyd, you wouldn't be so angry. Protests were direct reactions to abuses of the laws (and not the laws themselves). If you made a mistake, acknowledge it...learn it...and, avoid it. Don't push that responsibility off to the politicians.

As an Asian American Army vet, I salute you Senior Chief Edward C. Byers Jr. Your beautiful family is the wind for your sail.
My first time seeing the Medal of Honor induction ceremony. Proud to be part of our military family. Diversity is the secret of America’s strength. I had the honor to serve and bled with the men and women of the military. I can assure you whatever our background or beliefs, our blood are of the same color.
Why in the world did you bring race into this?
@B Me why not?! That's the beauty of white privilege. You don't have to think much about it. So, what part of my statement doesn't make sense to you?
@@bme7491why da fxck not? Ppl are bringing race becasue they are proud of it
@@alenbino Because it ultimately only breeds divisiveness, contention, hatred and violence. We all need to get ethnicity out of our minds and be the HUMAN race. Only then can we move forward without annihilating ourselves.

Senior Chief Byers God bless you, your team, and family ! To those evil people who wrote such nasty comments you are not worth a comment. The utmost respect to all Navy Seals who answer the call of our country. Cheryl
Seals are so bad ass. I was a Sea Bee in the 80's and remember one guy from boot camp who wanted to be a seal. While we smoked, talked and lounged this guy was doing push ups and upside down sit ups. I don't know if he ever made it but I served with many at Port Hueneme and they are the finest of what this Country has to offer.
While he is indeed a badass, and I respect and admire his deeds, you are wrong!! Marines are the finest this country has to offer. Don't believe me? Ask any SEAL. Oorah. Semper Fi.
I would disagree. My father was a marine for 20 years, my best friend is retired as well from Marine corp. I will take a marine over any other branch but as far as elites, Your average marine couldn't handle a day in the life of a seal. With all due respect
The Truth I disagree as well as i am training for buds SEALS are the hardest in training and on the battle field. I had trouble picking what branch to go to so I went for the hardest I wanted to be a green beret like my father or a marine like my uncle but I chose to go beyond that

Congratulations Senior Chief Byers, you more than earned your place on that panel...a panel that includes Lt. Michael Murphy (US Navy SEAL). The thing about the US Navy SEALs that is so impressive is their humble attitude. They are the guys that handle their country's business and like Lt Michael Murphy said, "You are always in the fight."

I am feel honored whenever I observe great bravery when it is properly recognized. I served as a pilot in the USAF 1961 - 1975. Four deployments to Vietnam. It was an honor to serve this nation...

Most beautiful medal ceremony ever. I watch these for inspiration. The flags in front background and the anthem clutch at my heart. I know the seals have a few serious problems due to their arrogance. One took a photo with a dead enemy, but the navy will eliminate these if it faces its mistakes.

My uncle, my mom’s brother, was a Pharmacist Mate (now Corpsmen) with the !st Marine Raiders at Guadalcanal and was in the battle of Edson’s Ridge. When the overwhelming Japanese force of 3000 assaulted the ridge it was held by only 800 Raiders, Marine parachute troops. My uncle was treating wounded marines while surrounded by Japanese in the night attack. He was wounded twice during which time he continued treating the wounded until the attack was repelled. For his actions he was awarded a Navy Cross which was a big deal because this was one of our first actions in the Pacific..September 14, 1942. Standards for awards change with the times is my point.
You should talk to VA representatives and see what steps you could take to have the award taken under consideration for upgrading to the MOH. Certainly sounds deserving of it. Thank you for your family’s service.
