Kudos to the Australian 60 minutes team and Lara Logan for such a heart felt, heart rendering job and God bless our fighting men and women who sacrifice so much for their country and get so little in return.🇺🇸

I was a soldier. It is never about us. Giunta is the epitome of a Medal of Honor recipient. He didn't want the medal. He would have much rather had his friends alive and well. In the end, for us soldiers, it about the person standing next to us. We develop a bond that goes beyond words. Beyond friendship. I wish i could put into words what I am trying to express here. Military and former military will understand. It isn't about us. It is about those standing next to us.
You can celebrate heroism but the person who you are celebrating is crying inside because all they can think about is what was lost. A brother. I hope that he is able to find peace and live a happy life. He is a hero to the family of the fallen.
@ManuelB1b3r No we are muslim, welcomed to the best and most civilized, advanced country in the world. Be humble and praise the Swedish people. They are indeed ideological, technical and intelectual the most superior people in the world.
SSG Giunta I cannot emphasize enough just how lucky we are in this country to have such courageous, brave, honorable and outstanding warriors and true patriots and heroes who've served our country and made us so very proud! Sir, you're a great example of what a hero is and your country stands by your side now and for all time, to those brave and courageous Americans who passed that day, know that they will always be remembered and never ever forgotten!
Sgt. Giunta, all of us on the home front must strive to make ourselves worthy of the sacrifices made by you and your comrades. I am sorry for the loss of your friends and fellow soldiers. Thank you so much and God bless you, young man. God bless all of you.
I had the honor of serving with a 19 year old PFC Sal Giunta in Qalat, AF on FOB Lagman. I was the PSYOP attachment to his unit. The 173rd ABN was one of the most professional and hard charging infantry units I supported and they were consistently assigned the most difficult missions in our AO. I am not the least bit surprised that this man stepped up and earned this medal when his number was called. I am honored to share a combat patch with this man. Here's to the better days at FOB Apocalypse, Sal. I cannot imagine the bravery you had to show that day. My hat's off to you, SSG Giunta.
That Solider is a hero. Complete and Total Hero. He saved his brothers and saved Brennan. To run into enemy territory to save a fellow solider is the detention of brave. Brennan passed away knowing he was in safe hands.
It may be a burden but for 3 minutes of your life you showed other men and woman what a soldier can do for his fellow soldier. For 3 minutes you were a great soldier. Thank You and God Bless.
My son , Carlos "Panda" Peniaranda U. S. Army, got bombed in his truck over in Iraq. He helped his buddy out of the wreck and saved his life. Now, he walks around with a bullet sticking out of his leg. Thank GOD he made it home.
God Bless this brave, brave man and all those who fight for our freedom. I feel so humbled and privileged to have watched this piece of history. I feel it has educated me on how to be a better man, on decency and courage. May Staff Sgt. Giunta live a long happy life of piece.
Wow...some guy...what a hero...puts the rest of us to shame...loved when he said " I'm just an average soldier"...if he's average what are the rest like!
That's all they are. Americans. They do those things for each other. It's brotherhood. It's not heroism. It's not nationalism. It's just... you and the guy next to you.
Thank you Staff Sergeant Giunta. We veteran's are honored by your exceptional representation. I can't begin to imagine how hard that is. I heard David Bellavia speaking of you fondly yesterday during an interview. I guess it is complicated - civilians might not understand at all and veterans might expect too much? John Basilone went through way too much. My brother worked with Ryan Pitts and he is also a humble dude just looking to get along for his family. Humbled to be close in this regard. Many blessings sir.

I’m just a kid from Hiawatha, the suburb of Cedar Rapids that Giunta grew up in. We went to the same high school. I was a Cub Scout that marched in his Medal of Honor parade. Undoubtedly influenced me into enlisting. Lost some friends. I can’t even imagine what he’s going through on days like today. Wherever he is, whatever he’s doing, I hope he’s doing alright.
Staff Sgt. Giunta wears that medal not just for himself, but for all of us, too. It reminds us of the sacrifice that all of our military men and women make, not only in battle, but every day, just by serving. And of course, he is a hero, whether or not he wants to admit it.
I Salute you! And you're men You all are Hero's and GODSPEED to all who fought and sacrificed their for there country. And you sir, are the metal of honor 🎖

Also no disrespect but that reporter wants to jump your bones seriously Brother. If I was your partner I’d be understanding of this situation. Hope she gave you green light bro. You damn well earned it.! 👍👍👍👍
I'm retired Army. Not everyone is a hero. Not everyone gets the opportunity to be a hero. Some who get the opportunity forgo it. Just being in the service is indeed a sacrifice and, most certainly, a commitment. You sign a blank check with your life payable, if necessary. But that alone does not make you a hero. Something very modestly in the general direction of heroism, but definitely not heroism. Not even remotely close.
He thinks he's mediocre because he believes anyone else in his platoon would have done the same in his situation. And I can see why he isn't comfortable with being called a hero. The guy he saved ended up dead. But make no bones about it, what he did was incredible.
What a truly decent and honourable man. Dignified, modest, and really hating the significance that his bosses have singled him out for. Although he couldn't save his friend's life medically, he saved him in just enough time for the man to know that he was back with his brother soldiers who loved him. The family got their son and brother back home too, albeit too late, but home nonetheless. The greatest insult was that the military later surrended the entire valley!
