"Hi,
I remember watching a snippet a while back of David Letterman's interview with Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer. All of Dakota's other interviews he seemed so broken up about the situation that led to him receiving the medal of honor. It was nice to see David Letterman put Dakota at ease and let him joke around a bit. I was wondering if you could post that video?
Thank you very much,
Rebecca Ferrara"

The Medal Of Honor isn't won. It's not a game like football or baseball. It's war. That man went through some crazy stuff and earned that medal. I salute you sergeant.
i won medal of honour in pc game. Its not quite the same, but almost
@@HaveAniceDay2450 As a Corpsman who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, I'd like to just say.. Umm.. No.
However, I've had a couple Spartan Battles in Halo that totally felt like I deserved it, so, I feel you.
Mam, you are pedantic!
@alexanderv7702 If that's how you see it, that's fine, but I find it insulting no matter how small you may think it is.
oh, shut up and just enjoy the moment.
Thank you Sergeant for your service.
That right there is what a real hero looks like folks.
He was so stiff when he first walked out, but then he was hilarious in the seat. Chatty and witty, until the 15:00 mark, when it turned really dark. Dave was slick, immediately changing the subject to something positive.
Also, when a MoH recipient asks you to have a beer, you say yes, AND you buy the beer.
When he said "we'll leave it at that" Dave knew to steer that convo somewhere else immediately. He truly knows when to stop asking certain questions, and too many people today don't have that ability.
PTSD affects people a lot. The applause noise really got to him. He knew it would bug him but he went on TV because of the scholarships. That took a lot out of him.
He was honoring the audience by standing attentively.
The hymm was playing a Marine will stand at attention every time.
@@Gump_Forrest_Gump If you weren't such a damned fine enlisted man I'd recommend you for officer training. Good call on the Hymn playing, I missed that context, but that all makes sense.
I got to meet Dakota at an Associated General Contractor’s lunch. The room was kind of quiet, not everyone was familiar with him. He gave his talk and took questions and the room was quiet so I asked if he still greases his own Bobcat. Then he related the story about being on Letterman and got a few more laughs since it was construction related. I brought a poster with first day of issue Marine Corps stamps and asked him to sign it. He’s so humble he signed it really small so as not to cover any of the other pictures even though he belongs shoulder to shoulder with those Marines.
❤ Oh my Gosh ❤ what a humbled humbled man he is 🙏 I'm proud that he's my brother in Christ 🕊 U can see he is ❤
Dear LAWRD!! This is AWESOME!! Get to "greasing the bobcat"!!!
Nicely done, Jarhead!!
Humble?!?! You should maybe google what the definition of that word is.. it’s not this scram
Letterman has always given the proper respect to our military. Thank you Dave...and thank you Dakota Meyer for your service!
I was going to write that until I saw that you did. Well put. Deserved respect.
Yes, thank you for allowing❤ this wonderful and brave ❤❤Marine to share with us. God bless him. From an Army brat whose Daddy fought in two wars I'm so proud of this Marine❤
Yes. Dave asks such great questions. His interview with Marine MOH awardee, Kyle Carpenter was humorous and SO respectful.
Dakota almost got married to Sarah Palin's oldest daughter. She's as whacked out as her crazy ass mother!
As a combat veteran it is a struggle every day, love each other and realize, we have it good in the United States, many do not.
God bless the Marines!
As a Veteran I can say people have always been kind to me. A shame the Vietnam Veterans got treated so bad.
Thank you
Good to hear you were treated kindly, sir. I was just old enough to have been in the first and last two draft "lotteries" (what a weird term, right?) and never got called, but I was trying in the meantime to sign on to the Navy and Coast Guard, uh....,no way. My oldest brother served in the USS Long Beach and Enterprise in Tonkin Gulf. My only claim to fame is that I wasn't going to claim 'CO', get fitted with braces, etc. nor run away to Canada. Big deal I know. And YES it was a shame the way returning Vets were treated or talked about by those of our own generation. Those were weird and unpleasant times, IMO. All the best.
My brother was a Vietnam Veteran and people were so horrible at that time. It was disgraceful to our military!
I will say not all but enough!
Amen my brother. My father figure Evert Ben told me stories that a 15 year old shouldn't have heard about Nam. Some scary stuff my man.
Thank You For Your Service. LOVE 💖💝💞 TO EVERY Vietnam Veteran, Their Family's And All Who Love Them, THANK YOU For Your Service, Your Youth, Your Innocence, Your LOVE 💖💝💞 We Were Not Worthy Of You. 😪💝
“Greasing the bobcat” sounds like it came straight from a Top Ten List of things that sound dirty but aren’t.
God bless this man and all armed services and I’m glad the audience stood. What a humble person.
Brings tears to my eyes. I lost my beloved brother several years ago. He was 30+ years in the army. He loved America and his men loved him. There was no room for the many that came to his funeral and big men cried. The Lord guided him through 2 wars. God please touch America and show us Your will.
❤
What a nice polite, impressive young man
Dave Letterman: 'Sgt Dakota Meyer, Medal of Honor Winner'. Dave, the MOH is not given, it is not won, it is AWARDED.
Blah blah blah
The sentiment was there
Way to ruin it stickler
@@Dime_time333 And what have YOU done for YOUR country beside hiding behind YOUR keyboard in YOUR parents basement making criticisms? Nothing? OK, I got it. Blah Blah Blah, I ruined nothing, but YOU tried to. Have YOU ever met someone who was AWARDED the MOH? I have, several of them, while my son was at Walter Reed Army Medical Center recovering from injuries suffered in Afghanistan. BTW, he was there 3 years and 8 months, so I had the opportunity to meet several persons AWARDED, the MOH. You should be proud of these fine people instead of trying to degrade them. You have a good one while the proud and brave serving in the military protect you.
A true hero
I respect Letterman for having all the questions pre filtered and known before hand. This wasnt about him it was about country and Sgt Meyer.
The man is a hero, no questions asked.
I was in the Marine Corps 1970-73, but I never saw any kind of action. Now, I'm in my mid-70's, and I can only look with admiration at guys like Sgt Meyer. Despite my uneventful service, I'm still very proud to have served in the Corps, and know that Sgt. Meyer and I wore the same uniform
You did your job and should be proud. I was in army 72-74 and never left states. We served our country and that’s more then most do. Thanks for your service.
You should be grateful my cousin came back in a pine box as a replacement! You did your duty no shame in that
You served your coun try proudly...respect to you !!
I’ve met Dakota Myer. He is a great man and love talking to him. Thank you for the service.
I salute this man....And I said MAN!....He lives about 42 miles from me!
Medal of Honor recipient...👍👍👍🇺🇲
I'm not a American but by the stars.... Thank you for your service sir...Live long and prosper.
As the niece of a USMC Korea and Vietnam combat vet, thank you for everything you do. My uncle passed away almost a year ago and was buried at Arlington. He's the only family member to serve in the USMC...everyone else was Army or Air Force. My uncle never talked much about his experiences but for me, the USMC will always be the best branch. Sending regards from Kentucky.
Bless you young man we are proud of you
Love this guy.
It's really respectful that they showed the other veterans at the end. Great show.
Those aren't veterans... Those are the members of his squad that died on that day.
Insane heroism SALUTE
All the praise and medals in the world will never pay for what he had to do to get it.
God bless you sergeant and thank you Mr. letterman for being a kind and caring man.
…We can leave it at that…. Respect SGT Meyer.
Thank you Sergeant Meyer!!
Thank You for your SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.
Recruiter got me the same way. "well you probably aren't good enough to be a Marine, but you can try if you want". And was like "Oh hell no, where do I sign".
NC IS VERY BLESSED TO HAVE MARINE TRAINING IS OUR STATE.
Absolutely
Paris Island is in SC
I have watched this a few times and you can not deny how brave he is in every aspect. He should never pay for a Beer again. When you join the military you learn and accept that the world isnt the same anymore.
Exactly same.
@@NecroOverour military Should Never Pay For Anything .that's our real military. Great Men And Women ..😊
I salute you sir respect to you.
I noticed all of the audience was standing & applauding 👌👍
They did that for Diddy too
Really? I would have been surprised and shocked if they had _not been_ standing and applauding.
God was showing off when Medal of Honor Dakota Meyer was made.
This young Man is a true Hero.
He is on the side of the Angels.
Dave's questions were brilliant.
Dave I miss you every night. I used to go to bed to watch your show in Australia.
Couldn't NOT watch this all the way through. Awe inspiring.
Well Done, Sergeant. Semper Fi
Thanks Dave for having an American hero on your show.
Sounds like a Marine, humble!
Dave Letterman can take pride in how he could handle these tough interviews with care and class. And not try to chase sensationalized emotion. He was a pro, and a respectful one at that.
true, and I’d bet money Dave donated to the fundraiser but chose to not do it on air, another classy move
Fine young man 😮
Dave has always been a true patriot. Midwestern boy like myself, who puts country over party. Much respect to this soldier and all our other service members for their sacrifice.
Sgt Dakota Meyer is a United States Marine not a Soldier. Soldiers are the United States Army.
Fitting for Veterans Day. Dave always highlighted Real People, whether his staff, crew, store owners, folks on the street, or guests. He broke down the facade of celebrities and turned them into real people, too. Please share more of these!
Respect to you Sgt Meyer and yr fellow Marine for yr actions on that day.
May Your Brothers In Arms Forevermore RIP.
I’ve always appreciated Mr. Dave Letterman. His recognition of our military personnel and the care and professionalism he gives makes me proud to be a part of our United States Marine Corps. I salute you Sgt Dakota Meyer for your dedication and professionalism. Semper Fi Marine Brother.
So much respect for this American hero 🇺🇸 ✊🏻
The best of the best. Semper Fi....
Lighthearted banter made this memorable.
Love that he lives close to Louisville!
I’m a Marine also. Feel very proud of this young man
Thank All Of U For Your Service. GOD LOVES OUR MILITARY..AND SO DO WE.. THE PEOPLE..
God bless our veterans their true heros in my eyes no words can express my appreciation and the respect I have for them thank u all for ur service
My late marine served proudly and die for our USA.God bless our military families and home front we missed you hero
😢 I’m so sorry
He represents the best of us, thank you for your service, sir.
The very best.
Sergeant Dakota Meyer, Sir, You, your Brothers In Arms, those who lived and those whose life's were taken, Thank You For Your Service. Warriors, Heroes, Angels. Healing Light, Prayers and LOVE.
You are an amazing young man. My heart goes out to your men who fell that day and all you have to carry from it. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for you service
That look in Dakota's eyes at 17:08 when he remembers he didn't save them all. You did the bet you could sir.
Semper FI Sir. Well earned.
You had me at "greasin the bobcat"
😂😂😂😂😂❤
That recruiter just got a field promotion.
That recruiter most definitely retired
@@FichaelMranklin I am so glad you were here. You're funny.
And we'll just leave it at that, and Dave left it at that ❤
Sergeant Meyer sir, you are an inspiration for other men to follow and as a British citizen I would like to thank you for your service sir. You are a hero of mankind and all nations under God.
Death smiles at us all; all we can do is smile back. 🙂
He seems like a very nice man.
Wow Sergeant Dakota Meyer. Thank you for your service and thank you for what you did over there. My dad was a pilot in World War II and I had. Nephew who was in Iraq as well, but my dad’s gone and my nephew is gone. My Dad was in the Army Air Force as a pilot, my nephew In the Army as a sharpshooter.
Dakota is a nice young man and a true American Hero. You should look up the story of his heroism and why he got the medal of honor.
Thank you for your service Devil Dog!
It is earned. Thank you
HOMBRE! And bless our troops!
I can see the sadness in his eyes that he did all he could do but asks himself every night why he could not do more to save his comrades. So often you hear I wish it was me and not them. We hold up as a hero in which he is but in his mind he would have been a hero if he saved all his men. Grant yourself peace that one day you will high five your men and they will say you gave your all. Its ok.
It’s PTSD
Yes I agree. My cousin is a nurse and went on to get her PhD in psychology and now help pir vets with PTSD. We need to do more.
Thanks to all the veterans and their sacrifices,
And thank you David Letterman
Semper Fidelis 😂😅 glad your alive brother 🤙
Happy Veterans Day... Thank you for your service!
God bless you Marine. I’m speechless, thank you
It gives me hope to see real live heroes. Thanks for sharing this segment to show us all the best of America so near Veterans Day.
Proud of you fellow Marine. Hand salute, SemperFi
The hook was set,I WAS FISHED IN TO AYE,AYE MARINE😊😊
Outstanding human being. Huge respect.
God bless our troops, Veterans Day should be everyday, true heroes 🇺🇸
Amazing human being.
Greasing the Bobcat 😅
Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
Look at his chest look at those medals look at those sergeant stripes look at the Congressional medal honor a true marine,i like this guy a lot!
PAIRS INLAND IS IN NORTH CAROLINA
WE ARE SO BLESSED AND PROUD TO HAVE SUCH WONDERFUL MILITARY PEOPLE IN OUR STATE.
PARIS ISLAND, NORTH CAROLINA!!!
The name of the recruit depot is called Parris Island and it’s location is in South Carolina.
I salute Sergeant Dakota Meyer, and everone that serves
Never saw a marine blush 😅
Greasin' the bobcat and don't make any rash decisions. Lololol
Love Dakota what a man
I greatly respect my military heroes that are brave men well done hero were all proud to know we have men protecting our country and the world ❤😊
Boy, how times have changed.
God bless this Kentucky farm boy
Semper Fi Dakota you are a true marine God bless you
You can tell he’s in and out of his head here. Enjoying the moment and also extremely uncomfortable with the recognition he’s getting.
Good man..did a good job…Respect🙏
Gotta admire Dave’s restraint in not saying “euphemism” for “greasing the…”
One of the Best Interviews ever!!!!
Dakota is so funny. He’s a true hero and the very definition of a true warrior. 🙏🏻
So much respect for this young man. His story is very much like stories in Vietnam. Like how did they know they were coming, why no air strokes and why did the artillery stop.
I am a UK veteran, never fired a shot in anger, I would be proud to shake the hand of Sgt Meyer.
