Instead of making your bed, you should put your quilt or duvet over a chair to let it, and your mattress, air out after sweating in it all night. It's a lot healthier and your mattress etc lasts longer. Making your bed is actually not a good practice, it's prioritizing esthetics higher than rationality.
I found this speech in 2016. I still revisit it sometimes to remind myself that when things get tough, my opportunities to change my situation are closer than ever.
I am alive for one more day because I found this beautiful speech 2 weeks ago. I had a bad accident 10 months ago and did not think I would even be able to get out of bed much less make it. Today I got out of bed and tomorrow I will drag my painful body out of bed again because if for even 1 day tell my gazillion doctors and physical, speech, neurologists that I don't want to i will have dishonored the incredibly hard work they have done to keep me alive. As I was watching this he seemed familiar. Checking his biography I discovered why he was familiar. We graduated and were commissioned as Naval Officers at UT Austin in May 1977. We spent 4 years as Navy ROTC classmates. Strange that after 43 years my memory recognized the older face and not the name.
Sorry I'm not familiar with the U.S officer schooling system, but does this mean that you spent an additional four years in Navy ROTC after graduating from UT Austin? I thought you go to Officer Candidate School if you've graduated college and become an officer in that way. Btw how does the selection work for the SEAL officers? Can you apply for SEAL training right after ROTC or OCD or do you have to have a few years of experience as an officer before applying?

Reminds me of the instructions my first pastor, Bruce Vanoer, gave me I first started public speaking, "Be Brief, Be Interesting, Sit Down". I'm ex British Infantry.. Great speech and absolutely spot on. I've learnt my life lessons and respect by being in the cadets and the military.. Keep moving forward, never give up.
All of the points made in his speech were golden tips to live life to its fullest. His speech was a golden tip for all, not only for the members of the Navy but for everyone. Reminds me of a teacher I had in high school. Very inspiring!
This speech completely turned my life around when I first saw it 6 years ago. I watched this clip at least 50 times for several days. I focused my life and accomplished modest success that provides for me and family and dogs thanks to this man. I remember first time RUclips recommended this to me and thinking, what am I doing with my life. I have changed, youtube has changed - as in only recommending stupid shit nowadays. But thank you Dear Admiral, your words reshaped my existence living in a third world country of few (legal) opportunities. Being in the 30s, lost most of my friends, compatibility issues with family, no job, no money, got a family to raise brings me to a spot where I started long back. On the other hand it encourages people to work like a slave all their lives and to think it acceptable to lose everything and then die at the end of life - in a state of war. We are conditioned to think that war is a natural and intelligent state of being that only the fight is worth it but the worth depends upon the end not the intrinsic struggle. The same lie resides in the axiom 'adversity is the mother of invention' but the truth is that nothing is invented within adversity because adversity precludes it. Inventions occurs in peace time even in the midst of conflict. Peace is often achieved by isolation. The fear generated by the need for defence turns into justification for perpetual attack so that civilisation becomes determined by war. The origin of divine right to rule might actually be determined by reason not might. Primitive fear divides people and is used to divide and rule, which is ultimately self-defeating.
Everyone should listen to this speech. Listen to it when you are feeling down. Listen to it when you need to be humbled. Listen to it to refocus your goals in life. This is the best speech of my lifetime and I feel honored to have listened to it and be moved by it so greatly.
6 years after this class graduated and this speech was given, I somehow made my way to this video. I'm so glad I did. I really hope that some of that class took his words to heart because they are world changing lessons.

I watched this video since it was posted. Once in a while when I needed to hear it. Through some very tough times it helped me get up and do what needed to be done for my kids and myself. I'm so glad to still be able to hear this message today. God willing I'll be here to listen when I need to hear it in the future.

This is one of my all time favorite videos on the entire internet. The thought of this video helped get me through boot camp for the Navy. If I can be half of the Sailor that this Admiral is… then I will consider my naval career a resounding success.
I couldn’t agree more about him being an important person of the highest caliber. From the first time I heard this I’ve listened to it a minimum of once per day, sometimes 3-4. It is truly inspirational. I’m not military but my dad was retired Army. It takes everyone to raise a family, change a city, county, state and national laws, ordinances, etc. Anyone can be a leader changing the negativity, anger and discrimination so prevalent in the world. We can do it by pulling together. Do what you can and never, ever quit!!!

I watched the Seal training video, and it was really tough, some guys passed out during the course, some guys rang the bell. But at the end of the training, it's worth every sing minute of the whole team who remained strong spirit and commitment .

I met this man at my son’s SEALs graduation. He was very impressive as he took the time to talk to each graduates family members. My father, a WW2 veteran came to his grandsons graduation. When the Admiral found out that my father was a veteran, he took a step back, and crisply saluted my father. I believe it was one of my father’s proudest moments of his life. I will remember what Admiral McCraven did for my father for the rest of my life.

This speech completely turned my life around when I first saw it 6 years ago. I watched this clip at least 50 times for several days. I focused my life and accomplished modest success that provides for me and family and dogs thanks to this man. I remember first time RUclips recommended this to me and thinking, what am I doing with my life. I have changed, youtube has changed - as in only recommending stupid shit nowadays. But thank you Dear Admiral, your words reshaped my existence living in a third world country of few (legal) opportunities. Being in the 30s, lost most of my friends, compatibility issues with family, no job, no money, got a family to raise brings me to a spot where I started long back. This video is truly an inspiration to me. Before watching this video I was feeling depressed being an Indian in Australia trying my best in these hard times to survive but guess what now I feel even more motivated. I watched this video since it was posted. Once in a while when I needed to hear it. Through some very tough times it helped me get up and do what needed to be done for my kids and myself. I'm so glad to still be able to hear this message today. God willing I'll be here to listen when I need to hear it in the future.

This is one of my all time favorite videos on the entire internet. The thought of this video helped get me through boot camp for the Navy. If I can be half of the Sailor that this Admiral is… then I will consider my naval career a resounding success.
I couldn’t agree more about him being an important person of the highest caliber. From the first time I heard this I’ve listened to it a minimum of once per day, sometimes 3-4. It is truly inspirational. I’m not military but my dad was retired Army. It takes everyone to raise a family, change a city, county, state and national laws, ordinances, etc. Anyone can be a leader changing the negativity, anger and discrimination so prevalent in the world. We can do it by pulling together. Do what you can and never, ever quit!!!

If I were a high school guidance counselor, I would make every student listen to this before their senior year. There is so much common sense it is an education in less than 20 minutes.
I've been showing this speech to my middle schools students each year for about 5 years now. Admiral it's still so very relevant to all of us. I find that one or 2 of the directives speak louder than others depending on the season of life that I'm in at the time I watch it. I was there that night! My youngest daughter graduated that night! Powerful speech!
I met this man at my son’s SEALs graduation. He was very impressive as he took the time to talk to each graduates family members. My father, a WW2 veteran came to his grandsons graduation. When the Admiral found out that my father was a veteran, he took a step back, and crisply saluted my father. I believe it was one of my father’s proudest moments of his life. I will remember what Admiral McCraven did for my father for the rest of my life.
