As I sit here wondering how 24 people could possibly give a thumbs down to this very deserving honor, I have to remember there are those that can’t see the forest for the trees. It is so sad when I see this occur, it speaks of ver shameful individuals that have trouble showing compassion for their fellow man!

I am a veteran. I understand his selfless act of courage for his fellow marine. He is a shinning example of what we should all be as Americans. As John F. Kennedy said " Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country" He did just that.

That's how we show respect in the military, without orders given, by your self, deep and profound willness to pay tribute. If there is one Marine I'd love to meet it would definitely be Cpl Carpenter. All of our personnel who serve are outstanding but the individuals who receive the Medal of Honor are absolutely exceptional!

@@ThePreparedSailor True heroes stand for something greater than themselves. In this case it was protecting the life of a fellow soldier. Though I would go as far as to say the majority of the United States Military are not heroes, in fact, they are tragic figures. To enlist in the United States Armed Forces now is to enlist under a flag which bears not 50 stars but one. Not 13 stripes but two.

18:47 that is amazing, really it is. He never intended to be an American hero and bear the responsibility/burden of being a medal of Honor recipient. He just wanted to go to college and secure a decent life for himself. Very very humble. He and Edward Byers are my two favorite MOH heros

When the moment of his test came Kyle was not found wanting! He didn't do it for the glory but for the privilege of protecting his brother whom I suspect if he had been in the right position would have done the same selfless act!
I would suggest a constitutional amendment that would exempt all who earned the MOH from paying any taxes ever, that would grant all MOH recipients a second vote in all elections and automatically promote them two grades of rank and grant them the option of immediate retirement with full pay as though they had been in at least 20 years.

Kyke did what he did to save a fellow brother in arms. I was in the miltary too and it is like family, sometimes a disfuncional one.

Kyle is a humble, courageous and a great MoH role model. Too bad Amos was involved in the ceremony. No integrity, lied about attending TBS and swayed many investigations with complete disregard to the individual Marines.

WOW! I hate to take away from Kyle here, but this is a VERY rare sighting. That's a fucking Master Gunnery Sergeant with over 20 years in the Marine Corps with ZERO deployments! HOW. IS. THAT. POSSIBLE?????? He doesn't even rate to stand in that room.

Probably because he is a 43 MOS (public affairs or something) and has other duties than beeing on the field. Be familiar with the term "POG" People Other than Grunt in USMC jargon; doesn't get deployed that much.
Yea, I heard that used at KBay and so did the 1/3 Sergeant Major. Sent that PFC and his Squad Leader to the BSSG when 3/3 was packing for a Westpac. I understand that never spoke ill of another MOS again.
I certainly appreciate the recognition of this great hero. My only wish would be that we do not have to recognize any other in this way.
