Being a 90s kid, I watched it first when they premiered it on Cartoon Network in 94. And I still believe Adipurush can't hold this one's jock.
If you read about the production of this movie, you'll see how much passion and creativity was put into this. These things can be felt by the audience, and Adipurush just seems like a cookie cutter big budget movie. Not a great one at that.

It would have been awesome.... As much as I remember there is an animated movie series of 5 or 6 parts based on Krishna ji produced by Green Gold... I watched it when I was a kid and it was very detailed... The 1st part literally ended with the birth of Krishna ji. Also other than BR Chopra Mahabharata and some good audio dramas, there are literally no good movies or series based on Mahabharata that we could recommend to people... But anyways the best option is to read the original texts.

Fun fact amrish puri has given his voice for raavan in hindi version while bryan Cranston has given his voice for ram in English version. Also arun govil who was actor of original tv series ramayana has given his voice for ram in this version.
Wrong. There's actually two versions of the English dub. One for the Indian audience with Indian voice actors, and Ram was dubbed bh Nikhil Kapoor for this one. This is the ONLY available copy digitally & wherever you find it on the internet. There was another version that was dubbed by American voice actors, including Bryan Cranston for Ram & narrated by James Earl Jones, but that was only for the theatrical release in the US back in the day. Afaik, unfortunately this version is not available anywhere now digitally.

Technically the one with Bryan Cranston & James Earl Jones is only the American version & not the official English dub
And that one was highly criticized bcoz they changed some crucial elements of the story & the characters, which is probably why no copy of that dub is publicly available

Ramayan literally means Ram's journey. It is not only popular in just India, but the entire South East Asia. Not only there are many many versions of it (with minor modifications) within the Indian Subcontinent, but also in Mongolia, China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Srilanka, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, etc.
The Thai king to this day claims to be descendent of Ram and has Ram's name somewhere within their reginal name. The ancient capital of Thailand was called "Ayutthaya" (now a Unesco World Heritage) before it was moved to Bangkok.

He's the legendary Udit Narayan a perfect choice. His voice exactly matched with the devotional thoughts and emotions Lord Hanuman had while meeting Mother Sita.
Kudos for the Hindi dub selecters for bringing in Udit Narayan for this film.
Also, to mention all bhajans and songs of this anime were released in Sanskrit and Hindi version and the Sanskrit version of this song was sung by "Vinod Rathod" the under rated and magical singer.
As a south Indian thanks to Cartoon Network which premiered this in English at my young age. Really helped an Indian who don't understand Hindi not to miss this masterpiece in earlier days during Diwali. The English version is also dubbed really good with great emotions like Hindi.

Each character here has significant big stories and its impossible to fit in a 2 hour movie still did a tremendously good job..became highly nostalgic

This movie is so nostalgic . But its true that its like watching a Powerpoint presentation on ramayana (just bullet points) . There are so many missing moments where other characters shine like Laxmana - parshuram dialogue, battle with bali, first encounter of shree Ram and hanuman etc. Also lack of depth of character is major issue with bt its understandable that whole Ramayana can never be summarized in 2 hour movie.
Still this movie is best for those who want an introduction to ramayana.
But they can't include each nd everything in 2 hr 21 minutes. Still they added so many things better than Aadipurush

Ramayan is not just the physical journey of Rama across the land of India, it is also his journey of dealing with different women - Kowsalya, Kaikeyi, Tataki, Ahalya, Sita, Surpanaka, Sabari, Tara, Mondodari.
You should read the conversations he had with these different woman, in different situations.

Both had just started thier carrier in Bollywood Playback Singing at that time.

Hey, if you want I can compile a document for explaining scenes with importance in this movie for your reference. We Indians take Ramayan very seriously and this movie is masterpiece in anime which very quickly depicts a whole story in a very short times and may get a lot of confusion.

anime is hard to think about for now. first there would have to be a successful manga for it. nobody would fund an animation for this long a project which needs lots of love and passion. but one passionate and talented person can draw a manga for it that's good.

Another Fact:
The exile was for 14 years but not altogether. Interference from Demigods lead to slipping of Kekyi's tongue and she asked for 9+5 years of banishment. 14 years because, during Threthayuga, if a Prince goes out of his territory for 14 years or more, he cannot claim the Kingdom after he is back. Technically, he could have taken a break but since Dashratha's death, they had to come back for rituals, then Manthara poked Keykei again and she showed her displeasure of not being fulfilling the word so they continued. Also, the whole foundation of their kingdom and lineage was "Even if your life is at stake, the words must not go in vain".

Well it's not a bunch of stories, it's a big book called Ramayana and they've omitted most of the story and this is just a concised version of the Ramayan
Actually there are many branch stories are there in many part of this story. Here in Ramayana, Eagan’s character may be shown as evil but in many stories (ravan’s character) he’s one of the die heart follower of Lord Shiva, also believed to be one of the best doctor of the time who wrote many books on cure of many diseases and procedures to be followed especially he wrote books on women’s pregnancy. He also mastered in many musical instruments.
There are many versions of Ramayana are there. So, we can’t rely of sir make story to judge any character of this story 😅. This is just for some clarification, not to offend any one.
For the songs so far the Artists are -
1st one is Kavita Krishnamurthy ( Not Lata or Asha)
2nd is Sadhna Sargam
3rd Song is Udit Narayan (Not Sonu Nigam).
Learning the basic storyline byheart might help you a lot in interpreting a lot of other Indian movies ..
Lot of movie references are made from Ramayanam and Mahabharatham...

It happens 10 days before Diwali, Diwali marks the arrival of Ram in Ayodhya after the exile, and Dussehra is celebrated for the victory of Ram over Ravan, so Ram returned to Ayodhya 10 days after the battle ended.

In songs, the male voice is of Udit Narayan (who sang songs for srk) and female voices are sadhna sargam and Kavita Krishnamurthy.

Meaning: You Appeared before Devi Sita Assuming a Diminutive Form (in Lanka), You Assumed a dangerous/scary/tremendous/ferocious Form and Burnt Lanka.

"Bhiim Ruup Dhari Asur Samhaare | Raamacandra Ke Kaaj Samvaare ||"
Meaning: You Assumed a Gigantic/Enormous/Humongous Form and Destroyed the Demons, Thereby Accomplishing the Task of Sri Rama.
The parting song when the chariot leaves says “raghu kul reet sada chali aayi pran jaye par vachan na jaye” its a sentence passed down with regards to the legacy of raghu kul- the dynasty where prabhu were born it says that ‘raghu kul has a legacy since eternity that they’ll give their lives but they will never let their promises go unfulfilled’ reason why it was so important for both dasharath and ram to keep the promise made to mother kaykeyi

You quoted " promise is made, promise is kept" , Raghukul the lineage of Shri. Ram has this moto "Raghukul riti sada chali ayi, pran Jai par vachan na jai" which says "one may loose his life but never loose the words he made, it is the pride culture of Raghukul"
There is this theory that says the tribe of apes to which Lord Hanuman and his king belonged was actually another subspecies of humans like the Neanderthals which is why they still had their ape-like features!

1. Why was the Shiv Bow a condition for Sita's marriage?
A: Sita was a kid around 7-9 when she picked up the heaviest bow on the world (Lord Shiva's bow that was lying in her courtyard for centuries) and placed it on a pillar stand. It was worshiped in the King Janaka's house. So, to find an equal match, her father was determined to find someone of equal strength. In her Swamwar (Marriage of Choice), even Ravana attended it but was lost and everybody made fun of Rama when it was his turn. Before him, Laxman was asked to go but he refused saying I know it is meant for you. He NEVER once looked at Sita's face. He already believed her to be his sister-in-law which is equivalent to mother, so he ensured to only look at Sita's feet. Sita herself was a strong woman.

26:28 "she was specific with the number of years" - according to believes of that (Ramayan) era, if a person was banished or stays away from kingship for 14 years then they become inelible to become king even after their return from banishment. Kaykayi was very smart with her conditions and she specifically asked for 14 years of banishment so that her son Bharat would continue to be the King even after return of Lord Rama from banishment.
