Here In Malaysia, we called 'Jatayu' (the vulture) as Jentayu. Jentayu appeared in ancient Malay literature work known as Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa aka Kedah Annals, basically about history of ancient Malay Kingdom of Langkasuka but with Hindu influence. In Merong Mahawangsa universe, the depiction of Jentayu quite different. It's in a form of giant Magical Peacock-like bird resembling Phoenix. And there's another one called Garuda/ Geruda, a giant magical bird that resemble Eagle.
Garuda is the ride of the God Vishnu. In the original Hindu sources.
Yess Ramayan can be connected to the whole of Asia of that time.
Garuda is King of all the birds in Hinduism.

If you google "Jatayu earth centre" you'll see the magnificent statue of the bird "Jatayu" located in the state of Kerala, India
I believe that center is build where jatayu is said to have fallen.

This story is more than 8000 years old, of course it's difficult to put everything in a short movie so a lot of context and explanation is left out. But I'm so glad you got introduced to the basic cultural principles India is built upon. I feel like everyone should know a little bit of the basics from every major culture. Rajamouli is a huge admirer of indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. His all 12 films have references of ramayana and mahabharata. He is a huge history buff. His dream project is Mahabharata, which he said will be biggest film ever made....

Most old Hindu countries like Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka etc are all non vegetarians....Indus Valley people too were non vegetarian...And countless references of Non vegetarian food habits have been covered up and distorted later on in the stories of Mahabharat and Ramayan.
Ram's father used to go on game hunt. Needless to say, the meat of the animal was Deinfinitely eaten as so Kshatriyas even today. Vegetarianism has been the curse in Indian civilisation that sealed it's fate to be defeated....It's only after Vegetarianism obsession of Ashoka that his empire became decadent...Jainism later on weakened Northern India further. A region which could defend against massive forces like Alexander fell against puny Afghan hordes.
1. In original ramayan which we call as Valmiki Ramayan... Has every single detail even what they used for making that bridge all the scientific explanation about it....
2. The banished boon was not just random actually... The kind Dashrath( father of shree ram) once he was hunting and he heard someone drinking water from the river .. he thought it's an animal and he shot shabdbhedi baan( shooting arrow in the direction of sound without looking at it) later he found out that it's a young boy name shravan.... Shravan told him that please take care of his parents...they are blind and they are sitting there he was taking them to every pilgrimage on foot... He just rested there so he can take the water and give it to his parents ... After he died king went to his parents and after listening the message of their son dead... They were so much into sadness because he was the only one who was taking care of his blind parents.... Parents of shravan gave curse to king dashrath that:- today we are suffering the loss of our son... There will be a day when you will cry for your son too but you will not be able to do anything.... You will die remembering your son....
3. Hanuman is the most powerful person in the Hinduism.... He is one of the cheeranjivi ( Immortal) it is believed that Hanuman is still present in this realm and always help us in difficult situations.... Once when Hanuman was a baby he saw a shining thing in a tree he thought it's a mango... He has the flying powers by birth so he went and tried to get that mango but when he passed away from the trees he realised that mango is still too far away... Now the thing is that which many people in west doesn't believe that it is already defined the distance between sun and earth in Hanuman chalisa ( a pray for lord Hanuman) you can read it too... The line goes like this :- jug shastra yojan(unit of distance in Hinduism) par bhanu(means sun) lilyo Taahi madhur fal jaanu...
Now he is immortal even after 2 yugas are passed and now he is waiting for lord Vishnu's 10th avatar.... He will be the one to help lord Vishnu 's 10th avatar kalki in his life... During that period he will be king of heaven... He is immortal because he got the boon once and there is a funny cute story behind this:- once ma Sita was using sindoor ( a mark of married women) so Hanuman ji saw that and asked why you use sindoor?? So Sita ji just said that in fun way that it helps his husband ram to live a peaceful and happy life... After hearing that Hanuman ji went and start applying sindoor allover his body and his body was fully covered in red powder sindoor .. later Sita ji saw that and gave him the boon for the love and respect he has for shree ram... She gave the boon that in future whenever someone takes shree Ram's name while praying your blessings will be go first and you will be there in this world until the name of shree ram is in the heart of every person...
Btw there are more things to cover but and I know obviously it's not possible all of a sudden but in 2024 January 24th .... The ayodhya city which you saw in the movie the birth place of ram is going to be blessed again because the temple which was there for thousands and thousands of years was demolished by the Mughal invader and he built a mosque on that Hindus were fighting the legal law for that for over 100 years and fighting for that temple for over 600 years and more... So on 24th Jan 2024 we finally going to see our temple back with celebration 🎊 and everything.... Join us on this occasion... It's the valuable occasion for every hindu around this world

Guys u can't understand Ramayana just by seeing some animation I mean animation is nice but there are some scenes which are opposite to original ramayan like 1. Sita ram meeting - they firstly met in a garden of mithila(birth place of mother sita) 2. That lord shiva's bow - goddess sita lifted it at her childhood which no one can lift because she herself is goddess laxmi(goddess of wealth) that's why king janak put forth the condition and lord ram can lift it because he himself is lord vishnu and they didn't shown the explanation that why lord ram broke it apart from lord ram ravan was just able to move it unless no one can even move it 3. Bharat(second brother of lord ram) never disrespected her mother like this yes they banished that wicked woman manthara and bharat's mother repent her mistakes for ur kind information bharat's mother kaikeyi is the most favourite mother of lord ram and lord ram is her favourite son 3. laxman(third brother) he never seen sita's face after marriage with his brother he see's only her foot because she is like his mother in our India our sister in law(big brother's wife) is like second mother and big brother is like second father and the line laxman drew is laxman rekha(line) no one like who has a devilish mind can cross it he drew with his arrow not with seeds 4. Ramayana (journey of ram) is an immensely popular story, not just in India, it spread from India to other countries. It is admired and told all over East and South East asia. Each having their own version of it, although the main storyline remains the same. So you will find a version from Mongolia and Japan all the way to Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc.
The ruling dynasty of Thailand claims descent from Ram. So all their name has Ram or one of Ram's name. The current thai king is also called Rama the 10th. Their ancient capital was called Ayuthya ( thai for ayodhya). Also all the Kim clan of Korea (anyone with the Kim Surname) claims to be children of an Ayodhya princess.

the reason why animation is so good for it's time, bcz the whole movie was created by a Japanese anime studio in Japan and yes the story is very popular in many other countries too and Sanskrit being the foundation of many languages. Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka etc. has their own version of Ramayana. The island of Lanka mentioned in the movie is today's Sri Lanka (a country located in the south of India). Japan had historical religious ties with Hinduism, you can see the influence in many Anime like Naruto, Dragon Ball etc.
There are remains of bridge built to lanka today between india and srilanka . The bridge is now known to be man made cz the rocks kept above the sand predated the sand , so rocks had to be from somewhere else .

There were 8 types of marriages in Ancient India. Lord Rama's was Veerya sulka meaning through display of valour. It was pretty common in warrior Clan. Rama was actual an Archer. He is considered till date the greatest warrior. Krishna in Geeta says "I am Rama among the warriors". Rama is symbol of humility respect and courage in Hinduism. He is considered the perfect man. His life is case study for every Hindu. His life stories is what drives morality in Hindus. We strive to be him. He is an icon to look upto. He suffered his entire life. But despite suffering so much, he always put his duty ahead of his life. He is the perfect King. India as a country strives to be Ram Rajya "Rama's Kingdom" which was the most fair. Rama is not just a man Rama is concept. He goes through the same struggle and choices that we human go. Yet his decision always comes from his higher self rather than baser. So he is that higher self in all of us. He is the perfect father, the perfect son, the perfect brother, the perfect friend, the perfect husband, the perfect leader, even the perfect enemy. Basically if God is perfection Rama is God.

The average height of human during those times used to be 12-13 feet. Ramayana happened approximately 1 million years ago. The rock bridge they built that time is still present today (damaged but some portion can be seen from the satellite) between south India and northwest Sri Lanka. You guys know it by the name "Adams Bridge" but we know it by Ram Shetu (Shetu = Bridge)

Hanuman, a demi-God (he is actually more than God), is an incarnation of Lord Shiva born via God of Wind. He is revered as a God in Hinduism as the foremost devotee of Lord Rama. He was blessed with numerous boons which includes changing the size of body as per his will at any time, flying over the sky (natural to him since he is a son of God of wind), meditating years, resisting any divine weapons released by his enemies,etc.
The places mentioned in Ramayana are still there. Ayodhya is a city in state of Uttar Pradesh, Lanka is now Sri Lanka, Himalaya from where Lord Hanuman brought the Sanjeevani booti, the other places like Panchavati where Lord Ram and Sita were staying is speculated to be in South India. The bridge built is still seen in Google Maps connecting India and Sri Lanka and called Ram Setu. There are other places also but these are the famous ones.

The reason ram can only pick up the Bow because its shiva's bow and and only the same divya siety can pickup the bow. Vishnu is in human form as Ram so in this its shown that ram is still giving his best to pickup the bow if he is in vishnu form then he can pick it up easily. And all trese wepons offering is to kill the bad against good, if you dont kill the bad energy the will do mass killing. so vishnu incarnated as ram to end this torture to the world.
When you realised that people in the dvapar yuga thought world is turning into hell because family doesn't seem to be getting along , compared to tretayuga, what a world we live in , I guess this is kalayuga

The reason the person who strings the bow gets to marry sita is because the only other person capable to do that was sita herself
an intresting fact is that during the war that kaikeyi mentioned she was the king's charioteer and in between the war the nail holding on the wheel of the chariot fell off . if the king falls of the ride he could be deffeated by the enemy and so kaikey decided to sacrifice her own index finger to protect king deshereth . he ultimately won the war and seeing kaikeyi's devotion he decided to give her 2 boons which she told she would ask when the time comes

Lord Hanuman is one of the most loved and revered gods in India and outside. You can find Lord Hanuman's mentioning in "Marvel movies" also, If you have seen Black Panther movie, the Jabari tribe were believers of Lord Hanuman in it. The story you are seeing in animation is a religious story of victory of good over evil and one of the best representation of a long story in a small anime movie.
Their are lots of further interpretations of this story and milestone moments e.g. When "Ravan" turned to sadhu to kidnap maa Sita...this is considered a heinous crime of epic proportions, not kidnapping but committing a sin under a pious uniform and tainting it. Due to this Lord Shiva, who considered Ravan his biggest devotee never forgave him in any of his afterlife's. The lessons from this story is enormous.
