  • Eye Splice description:
In this detailed video tutorial, we show you easy step by step instructions for tying an Eye Splice with three strand rope.
The eye splice creates a fixed loop at the end of the line and is stronger than a knot tied to the end. Most yachts today buy dock lines and anchor lines with an eye already spliced into it, but it's always a good idea to improve your boating knowledge and be prepared for any situation out at sea.

Yes, it is the only video of an eye splice that was clear enough for me to understand how to do it. Thank you!

Like many commenters on here, we've all watched lots of other videos on this 'simple' splice, I've made a playlist of some 30 videos, and I'm sure, just like myself, the other commenters on here are fine after they get those first three tucks correct, and whilst one other did a fairly understandable attempt, this video is by far the clearest in to understand how those first three tucks work and the easiest to follow. I've just checked out your other splicing tutorials, the back splice and joining splice, and like this one, easy to understand and all but perfect! Many thanks!...

YES! - beautifully clearly explained and demonstrated. Thank you.
In advance of me doing it, are there any particular wrinkles to know for splicing an eye TIGHTLY around a thimble or a ring?

I watched 6 "Eye Splice" tutorials, this is the one that made the most sense -- marking the 3rd strand was the key.

dude, this is the BEST visual for how to start the splice. i always used to struggle with starting it because the 3rd strand goes backwards. splicing is one of those things i seem to only need to do once every 15 or 20 years, so its never fresh on my mind lol

It’s impossible if you use each strand under a separate piece of the rope they don’t end up level you use at the start the right strand goes under a loop that’s already been used it’s so frustrating it’s impossible I’m down to knotting a eye for each job then cutting it off when jobs done ?
