- Defense ministers of NATO countries have promised Ukraine early support for its air defense. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg after the consultations held via videoconference in Brussels. The Norwegian did not say who made the promises after the meeting of the so-called NATO-Ukraine Council. Concrete announcements will be made by individual member states in the coming days. According to Stoltenberg, countries that do not have their own air defense systems have pledged to provide financial support for the purchase of systems for Ukraine.

Please provide a plausible explanation why, for the last month or two, the Russians have begun to carry their assault troops across extremely muddy terrain with ATVs, motorcycles, and 'softskin' trucks, in order to attack Ukrainian fortifications. This is not a rare scenario! If the Russians had plenty of tanks, IFVs and APCs, they would be using them to carry their troops into battle, just as they did for two years.

Logic dictates that you use your old equipment and replace them with newer stockpiles. This is also what the US says it's doing in it's inventory when trying to appease the people why it needs to continue providing equipment to Ukraine.

They need F-16's, tons of ammunition, etc. They should have been given everything they needed 2 years ago.
That’s all well and fine. But until they secure new, trained soldiers all that stuff is meaningless if you don’t have the personnel trained to use it. Not too mention these soldiers will have to gain some experience in combat. Many of the more experienced soldiers are either KIA, wounded or exhausted. Weapons mean nothing without the human factor. This ain’t call of duty where you can just over again if you get lit up.

There is absolutely no doubt that many 'western' nations have had their governments & economies seriously compromised because they have been infiltrated by/entangled with Russian oligarchs, pro-Russian operatives & propagandists, and pro-Russian politicians (..who serve the needs of rich/powerful individuals/corporations closely connected with Russian oligarchs..). The Russian influence in the policies & decision-making in some 'western' nations has resulted in 'roadblocks' & great pressure on well-intentioned 'western' leaders/governments to do as little as possible to enrage Putin or (supposedly) escalate the conflict. Fortunately, some leaders/governments have prevented Russian influence on their decision-making, and, consequently, they have shown focus & strength by supporting Ukraine as much as they can, regardless of what Putin says. These nations include all the Baltic states, all Scandinavian nations, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., and some others. It seems to me that the U.S.A., and Germany are the most problematic nations, and IMHO, only severe public pressure will push their leaders/goverments/Ruling Classes to do more, do it faster, and do it with the aim of total defeat of Russian forces in Ukraine.

It is Ukraine that doesn't understand it is being played just to help NATO bleed Russia out, until the last Ukrainian. The fact is that, while 'western' democracies have been slow to provide everything the Ukrainians need, there are over 50 allied nations involved in providing humanitarian & military aid to Ukraine.

The big Euro countries have committed a lot of money, but are lightly armed, and afraid to send too many of their weapons to Ukraine and then be short themselves. This is exacerbated by the Euros' bureaucracy.

Western aid to Ukraine is pathetic and pathetic. Ukraine needs munitions and air defense against Russia's massive military industry. Ukraine is not capable of producing a similar arms industry as Russia. Russia, the USA and the UK promised in the Budapest memorandum to protect Ukraine when it handed over its nuclear weapons to Russia. Russia did not keep this promise and illegally attacked the independent state of Ukraine in violation of international agreements. The West must secure Ukraine's independence.

The goal was never to "help" Ukraine. The goal was to convince the taxpayer to accept that their elected reps. would hand over their tax money to the western military industrial complex...so the shareholders that own the armaments businesses could rake in massive profits and the politicians could say they were "helping" Ukraine. Those are the only people being "helped". That's why even though Ukraine is being badly beaten, the war MUST continue...because the flow of money MUST continue. And you can tell that the western elites already know that the war is lost in Ukraine, because they are already whipping up their citizens about the next conflict between China and Taiwan...and then we will agree to "help" Taiwan. Not that I'm a fan of rock'n'roll or Creedence Clearwater Revival , but John Fogerty nailed it when he wrote in a line from "Fortunate Son", "And when we ask them , "How much should we give ?" they only answer more, More, MORE !"

Today (saturday) in the early evening (washington time) U.S. will have a vote for (finally) releasing 60Bn $ going to UA war effort after being delayed for months . Its the single most important decision for Ukraine in over two years. Lets hope the bill will pass

Here's what I don't "get". It's good the US is going to plug in another $61 billion in support. (Even tho' I can't afford my taxes already!)
But, dang it, if the Euro weapons manufacturers can't produce enough weapons, fast enough, there are several categories where the US still has VERY deep stocks - some a bit old, but still better than most Russian gear. The S. Koreans can build good stuff to NATO spec too.
Buy from the US and S. Korea. Kick in some tech or mutual aid for the S. Koreans as incentive if need be. (The S. Koreans are a bit reluctant to supply Ukraine directly, but obviously have no problem selling to the Poles.)

The answer is NO!
An issue the western world needs to address with air defense is cost efficiency. We are good at dealing with modern aircraft and ballistic missiles, but we are way to reliant on these same systems to handle cheap cruise missiles and drones. Doing like Israel and using 1.5 million dollar missiles to shoot down 20 thousand dollar drones is not a viable way of winning a war of attrition. We really need to up our game in laser defense and electronic warfare capabilities if we insist on keep dominating the world militarily.
