There’s a whole lot more to this question of the 6.4 versus the Cummins. The maintenance between the two is not even comparable, it’s a lot more than just a naturally aspirated gas engine versus a turbo charged diesel engine. With a diesel you’re going to be dealing with fuel filters, DEF, A whole lot more oil, and when something does need to be fixed, you’re looking at big money. In terms of fuel mileage, there’s also the price of fuel to consider. Considering a $10,000 engine option, there’s a lot to consider there.

I’d probably delete the emissions crap. nobody cares about that stuff here

@@frogger2011ify I'd agree with that. The Cummins will literally keep the same fuel mileage towing as well as empty. The hemi will have a huge drop on fuel economy while towing.
It all depends on how much and how often you tow. As the Cummins will have the higher initial and maintenance cost, but will give you the best performance towing.

Considering the maintenance cost plus an added 9000 to almost 13,000 depending on which Cummins you get sticking with a gas engine and getting a comparable trailer and living more within your means is the way to go. You don't need a diesel to pull a pop-up trailer.

The 6.4l was built very heavy for work. It's ment to rev slower and tuned for low end torque. People that are getting horrible gas mileage out of it when towing a big load need to use less throttle. The torque is down low and is enough to to what you want, it's not a race when you're towing 15k lbs. Guys that look them on a consistent basis are getting 250k+ mil8 out of them. This 8sp and the completely forged motor are very solid. Edit- if you have 4.10 gears it will eat a little more gas.

I have a similar truck, just a 2019 Classic. You need to quit referring to it in the tone you use, “it’s a Tradesman.” It’s a great truck for the money. You keep making it seem like it’s for 2nd or 3rd class citizens. Most can’t afford 80k for a truck, when in reality you get a lot for your money.

I bought a 2018 Tradesman 1500 for that very reason. $28k vs $40k. The Tradesman line put me in a new truck without bending me over every month. That's why I'm looking at the Tradesman 2500 now for an upgrade. I dont need all the fluff, I just need a decent truck at an affordable price. I'm currently playing around with the Build A Ram website and looking at $42k 2wd or $45k 4wd. Its cheaper than the 1500's I'm seeing on the lots.
I've been very pleased with amenities provided in the Tradesman line. It gives me everything I need and nothing I dont need. (Except XM radio, all I need is bluetooth)

Beware of the hydraulic lifter noise and straight 40 weight engine oil. Lifter noise at 900 1,900 and 2,700 miles, I recorded lifter noise took the truck to the dealer. Dealer had my truck for 1 week could duplicate any problems. I went on Utube and found out that Chrysler has problems with hydraulic lifters. Very disappointed and sold the truck. Buy the Cummins but not 2019 or 2020 due to the shity CP4 fuel pump due the low sulfur diesel fuel the fuel pump can grenade and take out the all the fuel injectors, pump and fuel lines.I have 2019 Cummins 3500 and found out about the fuel pump,I need to run hot shots lx4 lubricant everytime I fill up. 2018 has CP3 fuel pump no problems, now 2021 Ram/Cummins went back to the CP3 fuel pump. Good luck.

@@gasolinediesel972 Lovely personality. Rams cause great issues for us at work and, atleast the models we have, have been the most awful vehicles out of the big three.. Even the regular column shifters have failed on us, even after ram had an update/fix for them. So, while I just put my foot in my mouth with the column shifter failure, after knocking the dial one, it's just another disappointment from this company. One truck pops out of gear regularly. Two have had issues with fuelling, where you can only trickle fuel in to fill the tank, or the pump shuts off. Atleast with The older Dodges/Rams we had, they needed a new front end parts every second oil change. HVAC mode door gears stripped, so improper operation of the HVAC. I could go on but, then again they don't affect me. Ford and GM are by no means perfect, but the Rams disappoint the most, from our experience at work...

Just not a fan of ram... maybe these models are better, but any ram I've driven lately is just not fun to drive. The steering wheel is weird, the dial gear shift isn't appealing. The HVAC system isn't very comfortable...the biggest issue, atleast at work, the trucks break down a lot! Ignition issues-- several trucks, and multiple times with each truck. Column shifters failing--Even Ram's upgrade or modified part, failed. Transmissions popping out of gear while driving...fuel neck/fuel filling issues where it'll take a few liters, then it acts like it's full and it's only at a quarter. You have to trickle the next 50 plus liters in....multiple trucks....To each their own, I suppose. The Cummins engine is the only appealing thing, and it's not even Ram. Not trying to hate, these are just my feelings and experiences

The 6.7 Cummins has the better resale value. You WILL get more of your money back from it versus the 6.4 HEMI. And you’re going to get way more miles out of the 6.7 The resale value alone is worth buying. Buying something and having it instantly depreciate tremendously is something you will have to consider when getting the 6.4. You’re spending more money with the Cummins but you’re losing more money with the HEMI.
