So I've been trying to ollie for about two weeks now and even tho I'm not really skating right now (I'm in my pajamas having breakfast) this helped me realize a lot of things I was doing wrong Thank you for this great video
I started skating 2 weeks ago....at 28.i feared it as a teen. Its finally time to overcome it. Today's all about the moving ollie. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you this helped a lot I finally mastered my Ollies after about a month I get high maybe 2 feet Ollies but I had a problem with my shoulders I can’t quite keep them straight but I’m working on it!
Dude thank you for posting this (years ago). I've always been a bike guy, but skating is something that has been on my mind for a long time. Years ago I learned the gross mechanics for an ollie, but ALWAYS could not keep myself from turning. Again today, like 15 years later, I am able to ollie but still have that rotation problem with my shoulders. I'm definitely going to try shifting my weight towards the front and try that moving ollie into the grass--I think those are great tips.
Thanks for the tips. I did my first Ollie with your video just 30 min ago. So happy after 1 month of trying every week end. Still in the skatepark but I'm litteraly tired haha.
When I try stationary ollies I tend to kick my board forward. I think your tip of jumping from the back foot and shifting the weight to the front foot will help. I'll be sure to keep it in mind. Currently my shoes are destroyed, though...
Really find your videos helpful. You’ve helped me a lot. I’m wondering if you are going to have different colours available in the t-shirt and alternative larger VLSkate logo’s?
Im really struggling with my Ollies. I’m really comfortable on my board, watched countless hours of these videos, and go out for at least 2 30 minute skate sessions a day for the past 2 months. I’m pretty consistent with Ollies standing still but when I do them moving, either i pop and drag my foot and the board goes into a rocket, or if I do do a clean Ollie, my board just goes to a 90 degrees and I jump off even if my shoulders are straight. Today I really got frustrated because this kept happening, and now I’m getting depressed. Please tell me I’m not alone, and give tips?
I took a skii off an old sled and cut some 2x4s to the right size and bolted the skii to the bottom of my skateboard it doesnt handle quite the same as a skateboard but it is a ton of fun.
I got new wheels and they are 86a so they slide like hell I find it so hard to Ollie without slipping even while staying still. If I am in grass, gravel or a really big crack I can do it
I have a question i know how to ollie but when i move i try to put my feet in the right place but the bored stops moving and i end up doing a standing ollie so can you plz tell me why my bored stops moving when i try doing a moving ollie
im already pretty comfortable on the board and can land some solid ollies up to 2 feet. I just land on the front of my board every time i ollie. This might be due to the fact I have duct tape shoes and 2 year old grip but it there any tips that might help?
I keep on landing too far forward on my board when doing a rolling Ollie, kinda like you do at 2:32 in the vid. Except I land so far forward that I keep landing on the nose of my board and my board tips so I can’t keep rolling. What might I be doing wrong?
My biggest fear that ruins my mental game for a bit is when I land front heavy I almost always eat shit from that vs landing back heavy feels pretty safe
I can ollie while rolling but when i'm going through an obstacle i can't jump it, i get pressured and makes my body so afraid to ollie that obstacle. Need some help please...thanks! :)
to be honest i bought skateboarding made simple and spent months watching braille, but as soon as i discovered VLskate, i believe my skateboarding skills improved so much, it's like there was something missing in my skills and found in this channel!! so much appreciated!! I love your channel
I've had a similar feeling but I'm RUclips sniping and only 3 weeks in on a temporary standstill due to lack of shoe material lol! But between the two channels I've got back after 9 years Ollie. Over a 2x4 on the 4 side. Nollie (in revers) Premo. And dismount flip 15ish feet of manual Roll out on a box and manual the box. Stuck on heel/kick. Can seem to get back foot back yet
I'm about to start trying to ollie I think. Been skating a month but only about 3 times a week because I work full time. Some days I feel super comfortable on my board. Other days I don't. We'll see how it faires.

But still trying to learn them while rolling, and when im rolling my ollies becoming wack and rocket you got any tips on how to learn ollie moving?
@@youalreadyknow5849 the thing that worked for me is thinking that your body should only be moving down and up, just because youre moving doesnt mean that any of your jump power should be going forwards or backwards. I just learned this today! I have a few tips: first get used to ollie while riding slow, and continue and ride faster and faster. 2. Skate as much as possible. I skate everyday for like 4 hours, so i progress very fast now. Another tip is do «repetitions» its like 1 repetition = 10 ollies. And then you do like 10 repetitions every sesh!
Bro i know how to do ollies fr fr alright so first you have to have a comfortable stance (of course), be on your balls of both of your feet, on the back foot don't slam it down, just bend down jump up and when you first jump up kick down with the balls of you feet which will make you go up when you do an ollie... I gotta disagree on the "learn it rolling from the start" advice even though a lot of skaters say this. Overcoming the fear is a major part of the process and a lot of new skaters will quit if they don't have a way of slowly overcoming the fear. I tried to learn the ollie rolling as a kid and took some bad spills. I ended up quitting completely after just two months of skating in my early teens from the shear pain, frustration, and unfathomable difficulty. I wasn't super great at stationary ollies, I ditched them after just 2 sessions and moved onto stationary w/o trainers because the whole point was to gain some transferable muscle memory and over the mental obstacle. Took me a week to get comfortable with stationary ollies without trainers, and then another two weeks of practicing rolling. Something I felt I was insurmountable as a kid thrown into the fire without slower progression suddenly became a reality in about a month of incremental improvement. Some say rolling ollies are a different trick. Huh? Wut? Sure, the physics shift a bit, but the basics are still the same.
Ive gotten decent at ollies for a week, trying to get manuals down and when i try to roll and ollie the board shoots out or i jump and my board doesnt follow. So Ive rode boards for 13 years of every different style but at 25 i think its time to go back to basic tricks. And ollie-ing and while riding, will be my only goal
I agree. I think it’s important to learn stationary first. It gets you over that fear of falling while popping the board. Gets you used to landing on the board and maintaining a balance while the trucks shift from your weight.
@VLSkate your voice sounds so soothing. It is almost meditative. It reverberates into my balance center. I think I would recommend this to women during childbirth. "How to Ollie the baby out".

An easy way is really just riding around a lot that it feels like a second leg so when you try to ollie it will feel so comfortable that you know you wont fall... cuz if you're so comfortable on the board that you really dont think you'd fall
Wow. I mean wow. You are so good at explaining and giving tips. They are so helpful and useful! I’ve been watching Braille, John Hill, Arryn Skelly and many more, but i feel like none of their videos helped me. So i researched and researched and at one point i found your channel. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and ever since i did, i gradually improved at skateboarding. You earned a subscriber. Thank you.
Great video. Well explained, as always. I think this the only ‘Ollie trick tip’ that I’ve watched in 2 years that mentions jumping forward. This is a massive omission from Other’s videos.
You’re back foot can come off the board a little, but it really shouldn’t. And if it does it should be above the board. Sounds like a balance problem or a technique problem.
Hey bro did u get it. If u didnt but u probaly did its probaly cuz ur not commiting to help that all u have to do is grass or just stop overthinking it and youll get it but im sure u got it already
cannot stay balanced when coming up on the pop. i can ollie on carpet and on a crack. any suggestions? i can ride pretty well but not sure how to shift my weight when crouched right before the pop. thanks n your videos are awesome!
DONT shift your weight back. Jump STRAIGHT UP with the weight equal in both legs, and as soon as you start coming up a little bit flick your ankle. This the most important part of the pop, and the pop is the most important part of an Ollie. Pop your ankle down the same way you pop your wrist down when playing basketball. Jump first, pop almost immediately after. If you try an Ollie and shift your weight backwards it’ll be impossible to land
pterodactyl arms have helped me a lot! i’m still learning but my buddy told me to bring my arms close and spread them like pterodactyl wings when i jump. you can see him do it in the video and it helps when trying to keep the shoulder straight. it’s also helped me a ton with getting my knees up!
@@anzaeriabasically… you get your arms close together when you’re getting ready for the ollie, and once you jump, you spread open both of your arms, and it helps you stabilize and jump higher i think
Key tips for the Ollie: bend your back knee to lift up the tail, start off small, don’t try to make your first few Ollie’s 12 inches high, your front foot higher up the board will help level out better because you don’t have to slide up too much until you hit the nose of the board, don’t feel like your trying to do it, think like you already know how to do it, that helps with confidence
2 days ago I finally landed my first Ollies while rolling :) I was practicing behind a big grocery store where I was completely alone most of the time and the ground was good (I'm not feeling ready for more public spots yet so that was nice). Later at that spot I found out to check my technique in front of a glass door. I kinda used it as a mirror to see what my foot technique looked like. Felt a bit weird at the beginning but I think it really helped me (just wanted to share this here as it might be a tip for some people out there struggling like me)
Ok, I'm 23 and this is my third attempt to start skateboarding (last 2 were in primary and high school). I'm so glad I found your channel, I feel like after 15 years I'm finally going to learn this fucking ollie thing. Thank you so much
Hey I haven't been skating long (maybe a month) but I'm having real trouble doing an Ollie should I just concentrate on riding and getting comfortable before even thinking of tricks?
Yes, have fun by rolling around and practice going over speedbumps and down curbs. You will get really comfortable, making ollies seem possible. Remember, don’t get stuck, stop an ‚impossible‘ trick and do the things you enjoy in skating, that’s what makes it fun. If you want, slowly try pushing and kick turning switch. Good luck!
I know how to ollie but the problem is that sometimes I want to ollie and I end up doing a pop shove it or a kickflip without landing because I don’t how I do it, I just want to do an Ollie and I end up doing something I don’t want to. Any advice?
make sure your front foot is staying centered on the board when you slide it up! also have your back foot pop directly in the middle of the tail. Make sure you are centered with your board as you lift off the ground and land it.

This is a massive omission from Other’s videos.
yea,i thought that as well, makes a big difference
ahem "braille" ahem lol
This video is fake where are the pebbles why is the ground so smooth every time (jk)
and there are 0 cars, i want my money back for this fake not real life video
I have a feeling you don't know how to skate for some reason. Not like it's the fortnite picture or anything...

I can Ollie good while still but standing ,boi I nearly died
I've found learning how to hippie jump and being really comfortable with that helps so much with ollies and probably other tricks
I can Ollie but never land on it. My right back foot(I ride regular) doesn’t make it
You’re back foot can come off the board a little, but it really shouldn’t. And if it does it should be above the board. Sounds like a balance problem or a technique problem.
Hey bro did u get it. If u didnt but u probaly did its probaly cuz ur not commiting to help that all u have to do is grass or just stop overthinking it and youll get it but im sure u got it already
cannot stay balanced when coming up on the pop. i can ollie on carpet and on a crack. any suggestions? i can ride pretty well but not sure how to shift my weight when crouched right before the pop. thanks n your videos are awesome!
pretty sure i'v heard ollies while moving fix the problem, because the momentum makes the weight go forward, but yeah i have the same problem
Maybe tighten your trucks just a bit so it wont thrn as much?
DONT shift your weight back. Jump STRAIGHT UP with the weight equal in both legs, and as soon as you start coming up a little bit flick your ankle. This the most important part of the pop, and the pop is the most important part of an Ollie. Pop your ankle down the same way you pop your wrist down when playing basketball. Jump first, pop almost immediately after. If you try an Ollie and shift your weight backwards it’ll be impossible to land
it's basically just lean forward, but i think it just kinda hard too if you used to jump straight up when doing stationary ollie
I've been working on doing ollies while rolling so this is super helpful
man you got it
Vlskate dude I had trouble getting my Ollie an inch off the ground I’ve made so much progress thank you so much
how good are you now?
pterodactyl arms have helped me a lot! i’m still learning but my buddy told me to bring my arms close and spread them like pterodactyl wings when i jump. you can see him do it in the video and it helps when trying to keep the shoulder straight. it’s also helped me a ton with getting my knees up!
What's the pterodactyl arm pose? Are the arms extended outwards?
@@anzaeriabasically… you get your arms close together when you’re getting ready for the ollie, and once you jump, you spread open both of your arms, and it helps you stabilize and jump higher i think

when i ollie while moving i lose my balance during landing
Kameron Waddell same
I like is guy his better than brallie skate
Key tips for the Ollie: bend your back knee to lift up the tail, start off small, don’t try to make your first few Ollie’s 12 inches high, your front foot higher up the board will help level out better because you don’t have to slide up too much until you hit the nose of the board, don’t feel like your trying to do it, think like you already know how to do it, that helps with confidence
sometimes i like my own comment just to get the ball rolling...

Shame.

Felt a bit weird at the beginning but I think it really helped me (just wanted to share this here as it might be a tip for some people out there struggling like me)
Congrats!
Ok, I'm 23 and this is my third attempt to start skateboarding (last 2 were in primary and high school). I'm so glad I found your channel, I feel like after 15 years I'm finally going to learn this fucking ollie thing. Thank you so much
It looks to me like if you kind of think about trying to touch your nose with your leading hand, that might help keep your shoulders straight.
hit my first consistent rolling ollie's today while skating with my friends after 4 months of non stop trying. feels amazing.
Ive been trying to learn to ollie for 4 months and you just helped me correct both problems that I had in 4 minutes.
you are awesome. i dunno how u don't know how u don't have 1 million subs
Hey Vilas, can you do a video on powerslides and reverts? (fs and bs)
(Had to edit comment... Autocorrect sucks)
Hey I haven't been skating long (maybe a month) but I'm having real trouble doing an Ollie should I just concentrate on riding and getting comfortable before even thinking of tricks?
Will Todd yes. You shoud get really comfortable steering and pushing. After that your going for the ollie practise
Good luck!
Gram O thanks for the advice
Finally another video
Thank you so much😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I know how to ollie but the problem is that sometimes I want to ollie and I end up doing a pop shove it or a kickflip without landing because I don’t how I do it, I just want to do an Ollie and I end up doing something I don’t want to. Any advice?
make sure your front foot is staying centered on the board when you slide it up! also have your back foot pop directly in the middle of the tail. Make sure you are centered with your board as you lift off the ground and land it.
Is it weird I learned how to heel flip before Ollie’s
That is weird
Blackjesus the fuck
is it weird I learned lazer flips before learning how to push
Rick Skates no it's not weird. I learned nollie lazer flip the mega ramp before learned how to stand.

I was totally having that rocketed Ollie and open shoulders. I didn’t realize that it was gonna be so different from snowboarding
