    • @musicalchazze9262
      @musicalchazze9262 Месяц назад +3

      yes honestly I've felt this too man, once you get 180s on lock, I swear it becomes easier to turn your shoulders and do a 180 then it is keep your shoulders straight and do a normal ollie. It's actually more natural to open your shoulders then it is to keep them straight over the board, at least for me. It's also easier to get higher ones because of the natural momentum you have when you swing your shoulders. it will take you a bit to train your shoulders to stay straight again but you will. it's funny cause I remember going to do ollies and just doing a 180 out of habit lol

    • @lyingcat9022
      @lyingcat9022 6 дней назад

      @@musicalchazze9262 yeah for sure. It takes deliberate practice to contain these as two separate tricks in your muscle memory. It’s very easy to start letting these two tricks overlap.
      One thing that may help people with unintentional frontside rotation is visualizing where your arms swing on the way up. Especially your trailing arm. If you picture swinging your trailing are towards your back and the leading arm generally towards direction of roll, then it’s fairly difficult to rotate your shoulder frontside.
      But if you let your leading arm swing towards your back then it’s very easy to rotate your shoulders frontside.
      Then just simply keep your feet, knees, shoulders on railroad tracks in line with each other as you lift your knees towards your ears. Everything should stay in line and follow your shoulders.

    One more stuff to consider is the speed, the more fast the more the body tends to stay the way it was at the very begining of the movment. And the opposite: the more slow u pop the ollie more things can happen with the body. A good practice to straight up all you tricks is to learn how to peform at a fast speed and at the same way u try to go as further as u can, when u try to jump longer (not higher) your body will try to stay at the best position for that at all phases of the trick. Even the way we fall at high speed teachs the body how to behave better.

    I’m glad you addressed that the foot slide is a byproduct of the board rotating up and your front foot moving up so your foot seems to “slide”. The slide has been incorrectly taught for decades. Knowing this has got my ollies feeling better (that and a 20yr break helps reset old bad habits)

    Hey again, you might remember me from all those kickflip videos. Today I went to practice and wondered why I couldn't get a kickflip again. Your insights have helped me so much and today I finally understood the kickflip. I found an insight that you haven't mentioned yet, and I thought you would find it interesting. When I was trying to kickflip, I kept landing behind the board, with just 1 foot. I wondered why this was and was very frustrated after trying to kickflip for a long long time.
    Then, I remembered your 3d models, and how the centre of mass being away from the board when you pop causes you to jump in that direction. I realized then I was already unconsciously jumping behind the board ever since I began trying to kickflip long ago. I realized, to get the board to come with me when my centre of mass changed, I had to pop earlier, while I would be still rising from my jump. It almost felt too early. This brought the board with me, but the "overpop" effect from your kickflip video caused the board to keep flipping like a varial and feel very heavy. I wasn't popping excessively hard, but the concept of trying to flick when the nose was still rising still applied. So I tried to flick much later than usual, almost to the point of being a lateflip (like all those kickflip tip videos on youtube said), and the board flipped beautifully. You helped me understand skate physics enough to land a kickflip, but there was one insight missing, and that was timing. I did a perfect kickflip in the elevator going back to my room while thinking about everything and it just worked.
    In conclusion, I think that you would find the effect of the timing of the pop, scoop, and flick on the behaviour of a skate trick very interesting. This little "pop too early" technique actually saved all my other tricks, as I had been having trouble keeping the board attached to my feet and under me as I did ollies, 180s, grinds etc. Popping early kept my centre of mass closer to the board so I could bring it with me in the direction of my body, and I think it would help a lot of people who have mediocre ollies, 180s, and can't pop shuv. I had actually found this out before but didn't realize it because I was changing too many factors at once, and didn't realize what was happening. Cheers, and thanks.

    • @whythetrick
      @whythetrick  2 года назад +1

    For me, it started happening when I loosed my trucks. It turned out, I had some imbalance perpendiculator to the board. I was jumping slightly back, to the side of the board and my front foot wanted to prevent falling by making a small step back, causing the skateboard to be perpendicular to the original position. Shoulders were completely straight. When I checked the slowmotion, the ollie in its highest point was completely fine: straight, shoulders and arms right over the nose and tail. The front foot was rotating the board right before the landing. So shoulders may be a food reason, but in my case had nothing to do with it.

    Great video! I have one question about the levelling of the board. It looks at 0:31 as if the board when popped is rocketing completely level, and then when making contact with the front foot, it flips slightly toe-side towards the apex of the ollie, and is then levelled out again though the landing. Is this flip common/expected in an ollie? I've seen it in many ollie tutorials. If so, where is the flip coming from? Is it the front foot dragging on the toe-side of the board? Would love an analysis of this issue!! I see this happening when I practice my ollies as well, but since I've yet to master the front foot and levelling out of the board, the board never returns from the flipped state, and I end up landing with a front-side rotation just to stay on the board.
