There is this TV show where they remake old dresses and it always turns out horrible! Great job! This both keeps the idea and integrity of the old dress, while still being wearable today :)
Something borrowed something new....to be fair sometimes the dresses turn out nice ☺️ but sometimes they changed them like crazy ripping it apart and save like one piece of lace to make a garter 😆
Thank you for showing a dress update that still respects the memories that came before! I hate that show that takes the family wedding dress and rips it up to only use a tiny little bit of lace from it. This is a far better way to revive an old dress!
The fact that you re-did the part where your camera died shows us how dedicated and professional you are about your channel, thank you so much for that extra step you took!
I’m glad you didn’t pull a “something borrowed something new” where they completely change the old dress to the point where you can’t even recognise it. I find it so disrespectful to do that so you definitely did an amazing job.
That's lovely. My mum had a similar style of dress to that and I loved standing on a chair to try it on growing up. Nowhere near getting married but do love the idea of up cycling it to a more modern and style that would suit me. Also taking a moment to appreciate that gorgeous horse too 🐴
This is how an original dress needs to be updated! Staying true to the integrity of the original dress- and what a beautiful dress it was wit such incredible and intricate lace and embroidery! Beautiful work!
I almost didn't watch it for the same reason and looked whether anyone else thought it's really awful until I know realized it's not the "after" dress O.o Maybe the thumbnail should be changed so that people who are as dumb as me watch the video... :)
i had it worst.. i was expecting a skit in between of the videos maybe about getting eye lasik surgery or maybe going to a pool-aerobic at a home retirement community when the video is about sewing tutorial. 🤣🤣
i love how she explains it like its instructions as if any of us are following a tutorial. Im just hear to watch you work your magic! I don't know what a princess seam is!
This is so beautiful. I wore my mom's wedding dress from the late 80s. It was a very similar dress. I took off the sleeves entirely and kept the mesh with the necklace. We added bust support and lace detailing around the arm holes. I really love these adjustments too!!
Absolutely fantastic. You truly modernized the sleeves. As a quilter, I enjoy watching you use the walking foot in garment structuring. Excellent April.
This is so beautiful! I love seeing wedding dresses being remade, but sometimes they end up not even looking close to the original. I love how you can still clearly see that it's the same dress, but just a little bit more modern!
Honestly, same. I'm assuming she used actual boning because it was a wedding dress and it was for a client, but if it was a more casual outfit and not for someone else, I'd assume many people would just use zip ties.
@@piarateking8094 Whoops! I'm a new fan, so forgive me for not knowing. She's got a taste for quality, then. I've seen people just use zip ties, and I often do it myself, but it's good to know she doesn't use anything lesser on herself. Thanks for the info!
you did a beautiful job! another way to help keep a dress up, especially with strapless dresses is to put a grosgrain ribbon belt on the inside of the dress. tack the ribbon at the seams and put a large hook and eye like you would find on pants at the back. make sure the ribbon is snug when hooked. The ribbon belt on the inside will carry the weight of the skirt at the waist instead of dragging the whole top of the dress down
Beautiful dress before and after! You did amazing alterations April! The bride using the left over lace did a great job too on add it to give more coverage. She is beautiful and I know her mom is so proud that she choose to wear her wedding gown. Congratulations to April for a job well done and congratulations to the newlyweds!
You did such an amazing job!!! I really appreciated that you didn't destroy the integrity of the dress b/c I've seen it done and 80% of the time it's awful and completely disrespectful. None of that happened here! Congrats to the bride too!
That was beautiful . You really saved that dress , and it is still the same dress . It is not just a reuse of the old fabric in a different dress, as I have seen . You kept all the emotions intact in the return of Mums lovely dress . Sensitively done indeed . By the way I just loved that heavenly bridal bouquet. No clutch of tightly bound flower stems with the flowers jammed into a clump , but a graceful cascade of gorgeous colours flowing from her hands down that dress . wow !!.
April this re-styled dress was obviously very much enjoyed by the beautiful Bride, that smile! What an honour for the Bride and her Mother. (I would've loved to see it as a strapless dress with that full skirt.)
This is lovely because you kept the style of the original, whilst updating it for a modern bride. She certainly did look beautiful on her wedding day. Great job!
Awesome job. I bet her mother was thrilled to have her daughter in the same dress, modified for the up-to-date look. My dress from ‘78 was in bad condition from a poor heir-looming job. I used the net and lace appliqués from my veil as well as some fabric from my mother-in-law’s dress to make a ring pillow for my daughter.
You did such a fantastic job on this one! I especially love how you modified the shoulders, so clever. And her idea to use the extra trim on the neckline adds such a nice detail. She looks like a true princess!
I love it! Honestly when you do wedding dress videos they are some of my favorites. Something about a dress that is only worn once and you give it a whole makeover and it gets another special day. Would love to see more of this as well as doing this to other things like prom dresses, other formal dresses, a bridesmaid dress. Stuff like that.
Wow it turned out very nice, and that train is *extra*!. A wedding dress makeover reminds me of my prom in 2003. I bought a wedding dress at a consignment shop for 100$, it was similar to belle's in Beauty and the Beast with the bottom gathers, but had sleeves, etc. I just took off the sleeves and folded the neckline a bit to make a sleeveless heart neck line (it was already boned). I sewed the edges by hand in (and I'm sure I used a bit of hot glue too on the inside? I had not clue what I was doing)...But it turned out pretty good, especially when the fashion at the time was huge poofy skirt dresses costing hundreds of dollars. Even 4 years later in 2007 when my sister graduated, the style was already so much sleeker!
The boning alone made such a huge difference. It sagged so bad on her mom. I’m shocked that it didn’t have boning before. Great job with making minor alterations but keeping the basic style of the dress!
Wow, this turned out beautifully! Great job. I'm surprised that the dress didn't have boning originally. It gives the bodice a much nicer shape! I also really like how your friend added the details from the neck to the bodice. Very pretty! She looks like a princess!
This is lovely, also a great way if you wanna buy a second hand dress and alter it/have it altered for a cheaper alternative (instead of buying a new dress)
Beautiful work!! I love that you did not destroyed the dress to create new one, hate that this TV show did that, really hate the show, but you did a great job 🤩 and you can see the old dress with new life
So beautifully done! This dress reminded me so much of mine. Unfortunately no one is going to be able to wear mine - I was a size 2 in ‘94 - my daughter will inherit it in the form of a double wedding ring quilt...whew! You gave me some great ideas as to removing the lace! You do beautiful work!
This is practically my moms wedding dress!! She's allowing me to have it and basically do this, but without the sleeves. Not a fan of them. I'll keep al the beading and incorporate it in somehow. Thank you for this!
I’m rewatching this video and all over again I’m like gosh she looks gorgeous! Plus the dress is soo beautiful, I feel like it’ll be really timeless. The style rn is definitely more like simple and strappy, which is very pretty, but I feel like it’ll still look a little dated as time goes on just bc it’s so common and it’ll be associated with this time, but this dress doesn’t really follow any of those trends
This is a wonderful video. You are amazingly talented! I have my wedding dress from mid 90s and my daughter would like to have it redone to her style to wear at her wedding. This was such an encouraging video. Thank you.
My mum had an "iro and buba" (African traditional blouse and wrapper) for her wedding and she's handed it down to me It's a beautiful baby blue lace material I can't wait to make it into something stunning
April, this is so absolutely beautiful and unique!!! You are so talented and even my husband who normally doesn't have interest in my videos watched part of it!

it is so apparent how much you cared about the dress and the human and the experience and the day- truly charming and sweet to watch.

You did a wonderful unintrusive job! The dress is still absolutely recognisable but not dated at all.
I'm sorry the camera died, but I very much appreciate the use of a contrasting fabric instead of white on white to demonstrate a new technique :)
Very clever👍🏻

Adding the boning to the bodice really made an incredible difference! What a beautiful job. 👏👏
So shocking seeing actual boning being used, I’ve gotten so used to seeing people use zip ties that it actually confused me for a moment 😂
omg zipties

I recently started sewing and it’s really made me appreciate the skill that’s involved with things like this! You make it look so easy!!
Well done the remake is beautiful and yet you can still see that it is her mother's wedding dress. Well done.

Great job. She looked amazing in that dress. small alterations made such a big difference. 👍
Love how you "truly" redid the dress. Unlike so many shows and chennels out there that used old dresses as a scrap fabric.
Wow you did it perfectly in every sense, true to upholding the integrity of the original dress🤗
You recreating the part where your camera died is just so professional
I don't have a mom anymore, or have her wedding dress, so this is perfect to live vicariously through. Beautiful job.
What a wholesome sweet story of this dress. It seems to have become a family heirloom. Maybe it will be passed down in the family after her.
It’s been professionally cleaned, boxed up, and is ready for the next 👰

You've made such subtle changes and yet the dress looks more contemporary while still respecting the original. I'm in awe, as always. Good job!
This was done so respectfully to the old dress and it´s original design. Not as that horrible tv show. Good job, beautifully done

She looks more comfortable and better in the remade dress. April just put so much thought in working on the old and important gown.
