it's beautiful and I love the red shoes with it. Strapless wedding dresses usually have a belt made from grosgrain ribbon engineered on the inside of the dress. the purpose is to carry the weight of the skirt at the waist so it doesn't drag the top down.
Yep! It's called a waist stay - learnt about it when finishing my (heavy-ish) wedding dress... 2 days before the wedding... and fearing that the spaghetti straps would hold it. It also relieves the stress on the zipper. Btw you can use the hook and eye tape of an old bra (also serves as "something old") ;)
Waist stays are fantastic and I can't believe that more people don't know about them. I am amazed that even high end labels rarely put waist stays in their formal strapless dresses.
I feel like the two video perspectives, yours and the other RUclipsr’s are a perfect example of how hard we can be on ourselves sometimes, yet how much we are admired by others. She was admiring your dress without the slightest idea that at that same moment, you were pretty bummed out about not bringing your petticoat. But yeah, frustration is totally valid, especially because it took your time and effort to make it. Anyway, I love all of your designs and creations; been following you for forever!
i had been watching Micarah Tewers making dresses and i forgot how unchaotic normal dressmaking youtubers are. anyways thats a really pretty dress and you look amazing 🖤🖤
God that fabric is so beautiful 😍 Who would’ve thought that reds, blues, black, and nude worked so well together? And those golden sparkles!!! So gorgeous ❤️💙🖤✨
it's that lovely gem tone in that red shoe that pops the light blue, and then black&beige is such a solid (and imo underrated) neutral colour combo, it all looks so good together! obsessed
@@coolirpa I know you've done a couple of collaborations with Orly Shani. She used that fabric to make a pretty bustier for her cousin's wedding. It's really lovely. Your dress is fabulous.
i'm so bummed that the premiere has been postponed, but i'm glad you got to see it and show off your mad skills! i hope you and your family stay safe and are being respected and protected by your community. i know there have been some racist attacks against hmong and other chinese americans lately so i'm sending you all lots of love
I probably worked on this dress for at least 20 hours total over the weekend haha. For more information on this dress, visit my website: coolirpa.com for a blog post! I'll be sharing, fabric and other materials :) AND FYI - MULAN HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL NOT BE IN THEATHERS ON MARCH 27 ANYMORE.
First of all .... NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I was waiting soooo king for this movie ! Second. I always wondered how you use a dress form to get the measurements to fit the your body. ( your body small like that dress form ) My body looks nothing like a standard dress form.
Hi April! You could try something like “Save failed online shopping dress”. You know, people who buy clothing online and it turn out a big regret. What do you think?
My grandma used to make her own clothes. I grow up learning the basics from her. You honor all the knowledge lost in a time that everybody buys online and become a copy of a store apparel. Thank you for inspiring us!
I didn’t realize so many many of subscribers and viewers are professional sewers like her. It takes a professional to understand her. So beautiful dress
Thank you for all the tiny hints on fitting on the waist. I think one has to have a good understanding to get the difference between a good fit for yourself and a standard fit without personnal attention.
I'm obsessed with the dress. Looks couture TBH. The fashion fabric - lining sewing situation/logistics in this video taught me a lot and explained some things to me that I had been wondering how they were done on a dress I once deconstructed. Thanks April.
So pretty! My favorite piece of yours!! i love the style and skirt length. The overlay is also gorgeous. Its perfect! Please make a tutorial on how make tea-length vintage styled dress!
April, You did a wonderful job on your dress, it's Beautiful! We only hurt ourselves when we procrastinate!!!!! I am 58 & I have procrastinated many times in my life. You'd think I would have learned to never do it again, but I can still let "something else" get in my way sometimes. I will remember this dress as one of my favorites!!!! Take care and God Bless.
How I wish I could procrastinate and still create great things. I'm so happy for you April and to these great things happening for you and this channel! 💕✨🎉
Ugh, me too. I'm reaaaal good at the procrastinating part, but I need heaps of practise to achieve results like these after procrastinating. Thing is, I keep procrastinating about practising too... 😥
I love your creative videos because they make me feel more confident not only in your projects I copy but my own. You're so open and honest. That and your style!
Great job April! We are our toughest critic. Your dress is beautiful with or without the petticoat. I love how you share your thoughts after a project is finished. It's so helpful to review lessons learned from the project for future reference. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I'm super proud of you.
lovely work as usual, april! sew in a waist stay for strapless and/or heavy gowns. they're common in wedding dresses. works like a dream. my wedding dress had one.
i remember watching Coolirpa videos back in 2013 and learning to sew and make the most out of my clothes. Makes it extra special to see her walk a red carpet in her own dress design
That dress is gorgeous! And you looked amazing even withouth the pettiskirt...it's insane how our mind always makes us feel bad about the smallest details we get "wrong", I feel this so much.
YES awaiting your premier debut MULAN is going to be the best remake SURE. Just LOVE the fight scenes and choreograph it will always be a success to ME.🌈🌻⛲⛲⛲⛲
Wow!!!! You are seriously talented. I would have had a legit stroke trying to see a whole dress in 24 hours. Your dress looks amazing!!!! Excellent job. Love your videos.
Isabelle Scales I wanted to use horsehair but realistically I wouldn’t have had time to hand sew it around the circle skirt. Love horsehair braid though!
Omg I love Erin's comment about the dress! I'm totally obsessed with it. It looks like a perfect cross between the American retro style and the intricate design pattern usually seen in Asian culture specifically Chinese culture. It honestly looks like a dress fit for Mulan Premier.
HOW DID SHE NOT MESSING UP THE DRESS IN ONE DAY! I already messing up when I’m cutting my pants to shorts they will look uneven or they will be to short
I like it without the petticoat though, you look airy and super slim, and that's one gorgeous dress. It's magical on how you sew this in just one day. I wish my Sims have this kind of choice in their dresser.
Hey April! I have a dress that's my aunts and I finally got the chance to officially have it. However, when I sent it to a seamstress she kinda screwed it up by ironing the velvet material. I don't know how to explain how terrible I felt but it was basically like my dreams were crushed. I wanted to wear the dress for the longest time ever but my parents were just telling me to throw it away. Is there any way to restore it?
Q1: Why are they doing the premier in such a large scale , when world is dealing with a pandemic. Q2: Why are you attending the premier? Btw...I love the dress...You are insanely talented.
Hi - I made a strapless topped dress and only put boning in the side seams. I wore a strapless bra. This worked very well and I didn't have to hitch it up at all throughout the evening. I think the reason was that I did not sew the skirt to the top but put a "pleated peplum" at the waist of the top so that any separation between the top and the skirt would never be seen. Your dress is absolutely beautiful and I cannot believe you made it in one day. You look great, well done.
The dress is stunning! You look great on the red carpet! There is stretchy stiff material masters do use for an under bodess - it so rough that not only keeps the dress up also makes the waist line .smaller.
I love your dress and it’s lovely to see how you made it. However, the actress playing mulan is f-ed up the whole thing. Plus, they cancelled mushu from the story. What kind of demon will do sth like that?
Gosh this is STUNNING. I started watching your videos years ago when I was in late middle school and teaching myself to make my own clothes, and at one point even got the same sewing machine model as you! dindog22 wowed what! I need to learn more about this. Thank you for sharing!!!
Yes! Mine had a wide elasticated belt on the inside around my waist that supported the weight of the skirt, no hitching for me!
Yep! It's called a waist stay - learnt about it when finishing my (heavy-ish) wedding dress... 2 days before the wedding... and fearing that the spaghetti straps would hold it. It also relieves the stress on the zipper. Btw you can use the hook and eye tape of an old bra (also serves as "something old") ;)

dindog22 I only learned about waist stays recently, because a vintage pattern had one. It just makes so much sense!

what a beautiful design--simple but an exquisite result and perfect use of the fabric.

Coolirpa: Sews an amazing dress in 1 day.
Me: Cuts pant pieces wrong 3 times...
I so identify with you. LOL
Me, too. Well, 4 or 5 times...
Me: spends a week making a butt ugly apron to wash dishes in.
I feel you. It took me 2 days to sew a baby blanket... and it was just sewing 2 fabric together, no quilting or anything. 😅
I've been there!!
It has a vintage feel
muffin top I tried to go for an old Hollywood hair curl too haha. I tried 😂

Love your dress, but I wouldn't support anything mulan related after learning that the main actress supports police brutality in Hong Kong 😓
Same! Appreciate your work of the dress but please also consider that the actress supports police brutality in Hong Kong so antimulan!!
