Otters can actually be surprisingly formidable in the water due to their speed, had one save my butt from a pack of hyenadons once. I like taking them to a little pond with lots of fish, like the The Island's oasis, and set them on aggressive for a bit. Works nicely with Ichys too.
@@theflatpancake1713 I keep reading that you can see them from the air, but really I only find them by swimming underwater and looking up everywhere they are supposed to spawn (most rivers). They rarely spawn. If none are spawned in their spawn locations, kill all fish there every day until eventually the rare otter spawns. I've actually had 2 spawn in single locations that way.
I was having a lot of trouble finding these guys but I discovered something while looking for thyla's. The parasaur alerts on them as an enemy. I went from not hardly being able to spot any to taming one every time I hunt for thyla's. They do also alert on piranha and ducks unfortunately but it's much easier to spot them imo.
A really cool thing that I like to do in order to find an otter is to actually use a parasaur and I just put it on alert run around the rivers and if I see an enemy that's moving around pretty quickly then I know that there's an otter there also if there are 3 enemy's close together it's probably piranha, great video phlinger 😁
Yup I do this too. I fly around or put the parasaur on a high rock in an area I know otters spawn in at. I then kill fish until an otter spawns in the area. Watch though spino's like to spawn into the same areas. ;)
Pick an otter up with an argy, drop it on the beach, pick it up with the argy beak, fly somewhere where there’s big fish, jump off argy, otter stays in argy mouth, easiest tames ever.
I just got ark and i love it lol, i just got my pteranadon lvl10, but i dont have saddle for it, but it saved me so much from itchthornis(idk how to spell it, but the flying things that steal ur stuff)
I found one just today in a river on the island... All i did was just wait for it to come Atleast a bit out of the water and as soon as it did i grabbed it with my Argentavis and brought it to my base where there is already a pretty big thatch box for taming passive creatures and all and i dropped it there and tamed it easily :)
What really worked me me is make a tanning pin find an odder take a griffin or what ever flyer you have most can pic it up pick it up put it in your tanning pin and start feeding it it works 100% just be carful it will attack what ever u pick it up with so build it close but it’s the best because they can’t move around and you won’t lose them
I found a nice neon green and white otter during the arkeology event... bred it out for a breeding pair.. guanteed color palate in case i lose one... lost my blue otter before i was able to breed out a pair though.... and you also forgot to meantion that the otter can also hold artifacts in its inventory (at half weight iirc)
i think the mining helmet is cuter than the captain's hat :P also, i've seen some absolutely bonkers mining helmets with insane armour. which may on occasion be almost a necessity if you want them to take on some of the more vicious fish... oh, and just an fyi (i doubt you'll change this far in)... i believe coelecanth is actually pronounced see-luh-canth. i couldn't tell you *why* it's spelled the way it is (you should probably blame either the romans or the greeks, this sort of thing is usually all their fault). but that's how it sounds.
Hey I have a question that has nothing to do with this but a video request can you make a video about how to tame a griffin I really want one they seem really good when you tame other stuff for example a giga in that video you used a griffin
@@DD-OO Sorry for spamming, my replies weren't showing up for me lol. You have to use the alt pick up where the argy puts it in his mouth for it to work not the normal grab. I'm not sure what it is on pc but on console it's the RS button or pushing in on the right stick that way when you land or jump off they'll hold it for you.
@@DD-OO Yeah I'm not sure about mobile either. I played this game for awhile before even knowing you could do that with them. It only works on small creatures so I never noticed it b/c the smaller creatures are usually easy to passive tame or bola but it makes taming otters really easy.
Y'know something funny? These things in real life modern day can kill wild giant snapping turtles and even caimans (small to mid sized alligators native to South America for those who have no idea what a caiman is) and yet in Ark they lose to beavers and Salmon... Yeah I definitely think these things should get a TLC update a big size increase remove the scarf feature and make them much more viable and vicious make them the size of a hyenadon and give them the pack bonus so their viable and have an actual use as at this point for fishing you'd be better off using an ichthy or something and for pearls your better off just diving into the ocean and killing and harvesting everything there's sadly no real point to taming the thing aside from it being insanely adorable but I wish these thing were more badass like they are in real life

oasis? is that the place near the red obelisk with the waterfall?
the pond is usually dead
Best and most fun tame in the whole game. Love when I get my otters and breed them to get little baby otters. 🤩
I've wanted otters but could never find them probably because they get eaten by a spino or something
@@theflatpancake1713
try moving them somewhere safe and keep them in an argents beak so it cant move, then drag your fish to the argy

Thank you so much for this series, this is absolutely perfect. Really appreciate it as a fairly new player!
Guess what? I FINALLY found an otter near the beach. I found him a month ago and I have not found another one ever since.

It's itchtyornis
the otter can carry artifacts. that you forgot
These guys are freakin cute!!!!!!! Don’t help me when I have loved otters since I was 2
I got my otter to 1300 melee and I can survive the Murder Snow. He's got 44000 xp and hasn't been bred/imprinted. This normal?

I tamed a high lvl otter in a pond in the redwood forest ragnarok.

You forgot they can be used as the world's cutest AC for early game breeding. :)
Down side they only eat fish..correct but they have a hunger of a giga for the fish
i found an otter in a waterfall cave on rag
In extinction I had one spawn in a man made pool put a sarco killed it

i have a otter with 900% melee and i can survive murder snow naked :)
does Otter and Pearl mechanic still apply to the newest version of ARK?
In the opening I was more interested in the gotcha
