I'm still using from back then the original method with a scorpion on aggessive and an argentavis. Kinda outdated it seems now but damn that tapejara method looked pretty easy.
if you make one of the foundations a hatch instead, you should be able to access the platform saddle (and therefore the quetz's inventory) a little more easily. also, while you covered how to get a quetz here, i'm not fully convinced you showed off how to use them... i would almost describe this as being like a part 1 of 2 on the quetzal, because it isn't quite as straightforward as, say, an anky (find metal, bash metal). the platform saddle gives you enough pieces to make some interesting and useful structures, some of which can be a little bit finicky.
Thanks, man. I'm not new to Ark, but I switched to singplayer within a few weeks of having it. I've pretty much ignored the Quetz for a year because of all the problems I was having with my attempts. I didn't know I could do all this. It'll come in handy now that I'm starting over to run all the maps in order. Oh, and your kibble vids helped a lot. Another thing I neglected for convenience.
This is on a non dedicated and a little boosted to make it fair because we were a 3 man tribe. Me and my tribemate were just coming back from the snow biome after taming a rhino (we were on a Tapejara btw) and we saw one of these beasts... I had a longneck with just regular tranq darts and my friend had a crossbow. My friend could not fly though... I took him up to it and he shot it, but hit me and almost knocked me out so I picked him up, we were around red ob and we’re heading to herbivore (our home) so there was quite a lot of water. We got it out and luckily there was a dead carno there, so we got prime and some normal meat and luckily I had tons and tons of narcotics, after about half an hour we got it... We called him “troop transport” because it could take our dinos to different places and gave it a black and blue bionic costume
I was chasing a quetz on ragnarok in the snow with a crossbow and it got wedged in some rocks but it was like -70 Celsius there so I had to stand far away shooting it where it was warmer. My crossbow also broke and I had to finish it with a primitive bow
Just a spot of advice you don't have to add the final walls of the Quetzal cage after you have the Quetzal caught. Whilst moving the Quetz platform is ethereal allowing you to just fly through a Quezt, stop and the building pieces become solid again leaving the Quetz stuck, not a lot simpler but helps a bit.
Just got my first quetzal, lol it's a level7 tek,got him with a wyvern standing on his back hovering and shooting with a crossbow. I gotta learn to watch these videos before the animal is unconscious
I did my first wild tame on one not long ago. I followed it from the ground, shooting it when I had the chance with shock tranqs. It eventually fell and I was able to tame it. Thank goodness it didn't land in the water.
I kept trying to switch the whistling on the Tapejara, but everytime I would whistle to attack, he would turn away from the Quetzal and start pecking at nothing. I tried switching setting on the Tapejara but keeps doing the same thing.
Good to know the old tactics still work. Just coming back from a loong break and was worried the cage on quetzl back wouldn't work and that they had patched it somehow. Realized how much I relied on the platform saddle in the good old days to transport new tames now when I don't have any after just coming back...just flying over all those rexes, raptors and other predators makes bringing new tames home alive so much easier.
Griffins are the best creatures for taming quetzals (other than quetzals of course) because they can be controlled easily and you don't have to worry about hitting the quetzal during the tame.
As another commenter states, 3 walls high works, 2 doesn't. Also, Phlinger doesn't show what happens when you get one stuck in the cage: Once you start shooting it, it will turn and try to get out. No problem if you wall up the holes. Once knocked out you can't move or it will slip off and fall to the ground where you can tame it if it doesn't drop in the water or gets attacked. Also, the trap door in place of a foundation is a good idea too.
It can kill alphas solo no matter the level depending on the distance you have from said alpha....best to jack HP into the quetz with movement speed also
Amazing how easy it is once I got a male Tapijara to aggro to me with a rare flower then bolo them instead of chasing them around shooting at them as they run away. Then it was as easy as you showed with a few whistle commands and bang my first Quetz was down.
Each time i got my first quetzal, i found it near to a mountain and i shot it from the ground then chased it until it passed by another high point then jumped off my mount and shot it again until it eventually came down.
So shortly after taming the quetzal, I saw another in the sky above my base. I got all the supplies, including the platform saddle and stimberries, and was ready to go tame it. However, I couldn't find my first quetzal. After searching for about 10 minutes, I realized the quetzal high in the sky was mine :\
I personally prefer the Rock Drake for utility though my personal mount is a Rock Golem built for speed in an attempt to compensate for its sluggishness. As for small mounts, the Tek ATV.
If you are going for exotic mounts and true utility, I would have to say the Phoenix would be one of the best mounts to have overall. Just have an Argent or 2 on folow.
Just want to point out that he almost always recommends kibble and I've never used it never had a problem taming things doesn't even take that long. Kibble takes more patience and time then the tame it self in my opinion.
Doesn't save anytime when I have to gather everything for a type of kibble and look up how to make it. Vs just taming it right then and there defending it.
I think a good way would be if you make a trap with two chambers. One for the quetzal and a chamber for you that’s completely closed up. Then u eat a rare flower and made it follow you into the trap. So let’s say u find a quetz. U set up the trap which is a big doorframe/behemoth gate trap connected to the 2x2x house. You fly up to the quetz with ur bird and eat a rare flower. You then fly down and dismount and stand at the entrance of the trap. Then lure the quetz in and shut the gate behind it. Boom 🤯

I've tried the whistling method so many times now. With argies, pteras and tapejaras. But for me the whistle attack this target" only works when we're really high in the sky far away from anything. As soon as we're even remotely close to the ground or trees it doesn't follow the quetzal. The whistle hits the quetzal and my bird attacks...but instead of going towards the quetzal it goes opposite way or just starts spinning in circles and attacking the air. I've tried changing the target and follow distances but nothing works
