Yep, his/her name, rank and hometown are usually down there. Another fun thing about plane captains is that while squadron pilots may or may not get their name on a jet, the plane captain always will. They're tied to that jet and often take a lot of pride in maintaining them.
Kind of a random but interesting fact in regards to the F-14B: The original F-14B (an early 1970s project) was intended to use the Pratt and Whitney F401 (derivative of the F100) in place of the TF30s, with the proposed F-14C consisting of an avionics upgrade. Neither variant was built, due to cancellation of the program in 1974-1975 (due to cost overruns/reliability issues with the F401/early F100s). The F110-powered Tomcats ended up making up less than half the functional fleet, which is rather unfortunate (the TF30s were frankly not a good long-term powerplant for the Tomcat lmao)
For what it's worth, I was stationed on the USS John F. Kennedy (Fennedy LOL) from 81-85. I never saw a VF-11 Tomcat painted with the dark paint scheme on the tail rudders. They were light gray with a small VF-11 logo in the center of the rudders. Also the carrier air wing designator was AC, not AA that is painted on the inside of the tail rudder on your model. The name on the front landing gear doors was the aircraft's plane captain.
Haha I cant believe they messed that up.. Good info. I think its hard for these companies to release the amount of models they do and to make sure everything is correct, which is unfortunate.
For that time frame (81-85), yes, the jets were early Block 75s, tailcode was AC, and painted in the overall gloss gull grey scheme . However, after you checked out of the command, the squadron was chopped to CVW-6 in 1985, & the tail code changed to AE, then it changed to AG when the squadron transferred to CVW-7 in 1997, and changed to AA in 2004 when the wing left the Geo. Washington to go back to the JFK while still assigned to CVW-7. The solid insignia blue tails first came out in 2004 on the CAG & CO jets. The paint scheme on the model is accurate for the real jet. It was a special, one-off scheme to commemorate the units last days flying the F-14 before it transitioned to the F-18F.
"Fennedy"... that needs to be fixed. You can scratch it with a hobby knife and then use a letter transfer. Because that is a big bummer. Easy fix, tho. I liked the light weathering on it. Looks really neat.
Hi, thx for your suberb review ! I recieved the VF31 one yesterday from JC Wings, my question is where is the pitot tube fpr the nose in the package, I could find it yet. Maybe I have overseen it , could please tell me, where found it in the package, thx in advance . Rgds Martin
Hey man I really like the review I believe that the sidewinder is a 9e unsure to be exact though from the looks of things it is also keep up the good work man!!!
The Aim-9's had the fins that curve and extend out a little, therefore it should be the Aim-9L/M. If you pay attention to the Aim 9G/H's, their fins are completely straight.
I think the pitot tube is on the left side near the cockpit. I went to an air show in the 1980s and there was an F-14 there, I asked the pilot what the little 90 degree bent tube on the side was and he said pitot tube.
What he was saying was the pitot tube on the tip of the radome is actually one of the 4 angle of attack (AoA) probes on the forward fuselage. There are two pitot tubes, one on each side of the nose, just under where the canopy & windshield meet, two more AoA probes on the left side of the forward fuselage, a single AoA probe on the right side of the forward fuselage along with a total temperature probe.
@@MilitaryVehicleReviews "the pitot tube on the tip of the radome is actually one of the 4 angle of attack (AoA) probes". Its been that way since the introduction of the Block 90 aircraft. There was nothing mounted there on the preceding production blocks.
I saw a LOT of F-14s in my time in service aboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and NONE of them showed so many heavy black lines between the panels. A typical weapons load for standard mission would be 2 sidewinders, 2 sparrows, might carry 2 phoenix and 20 mm gun.
CMDCM AW/SW means Command Master Chief with his specialty primary being Air warfare and his secondary being Surface warfare qualifications for specifically Mark Hall, he would be the plane captain, however, I was not able to find that specific sailor, need a little more info on him to see if he is real. Regardless I definitely would not pay $100-$350.00 for that model in 1/72 scale not a chance. Cmdr Rodriguez however was the commanding officer of VFA11 Red Rippers and was relieved at a COC by Cmdr. Anthony T. DeSmet in 2007 NAS Oceana at Va beach. Regarding the label under the port wing, I have never seen this before in this location on any of the VFA11 birds. Usually, there is a warning label under the port canopy that refers to activated charges but not under the wing. However, there is an F14 in Northrop Grumman Long Island New York that does have these warnings displayed in those locations I believe.
@Hanshi64 I was wondering about the Command Master Chief on the wheel flap, I only served on a DDG and LCC and I am not very well versed in aircraft squadrons, is it normal for someone that is ranked as a Command Master Chief be considered a plane captain? I would have thought the plane captain position would be assigned to a lower ranked individual. Just wondering?
Can’t decide which aircraft looks cooler. F15 or F14?🤔 (nothing wrong with F16, F18, F22 or F35, but there’s something special about the Eagle and Tomcat)
Long time no see, very interesting die cast, super detailing and good packaging. That canopy should polish right out. Carrier deck set Makes a nice diorama Now I just have to take a look at my beer budget to shift some cash over to my model budget. Cheers

I've watched your videos before and they were very good. But I do have to ask you. Why did you choose JC? There's other better quality model companies like century wings, yes caliber wings is similar but the paint and details are alot better. Century wings has better attaching ordinance. Also here's a bit of history for you. The Iranians used the Phoenix to great affect and shot down quite a few airports, also the Phoenix has a range of around 100 nautical miles. I do like your channel keep it up.

I went with JC Wings on this one bc the photos looked Amazing and I have never owned one of their models so I thought I would give it a try. Definitely left a bitter taste for me though.. I may buy another one of their models in the future to see if I just got a bad one. Good info!

This started out so promising and just fell off a cliff. QC issues is an understatement. One of the reasons I all but stopped collecting. It’s like 50% of the models you buy end up damaged and flawed from just trying to fit accessories. Even when you take all the care and time in the world, if pieces don’t fit, it’s not going to end well. And you shouldn’t need sticky tac or glue on a brand new anything

Yup! I think the one on the nose cone is for Angle of Attack?
@@MilitaryVehicleReviews "the pitot tube on the tip of the radome is actually one of the 4 angle of attack (AoA) probes". Its been that way since the introduction of the Block 90 aircraft. There was nothing mounted there on the preceding production blocks.
Nice base, needs some deck crew figs. Is the JBD motorised? so it can raise and lower.
They do make deck crew but didn’t send them to me in to me. No motors, but would be awesome!
I saw a LOT of F-14s in my time in service aboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and NONE of them showed so many heavy black lines between the panels. A typical weapons load for standard mission would be 2 sidewinders, 2 sparrows, might carry 2 phoenix and 20 mm gun.
are the jdams supposed to go on the rear mounts? it seems like the gbu12 hardpoints are the right length to be at the front
I thought the same thing but per their own pictures I installed it correctly.
Where did you get the aircraft carrier base?
I'm sorry I didn't pay attention I already saw that you say where hahaha
Where did you get the deck platform
I got it from BaseKraft. You can find them on Facebook.
bombs on the tomcat feels messed up
Where can I buy that stand? The stand only.
when i was a kid you had to actually build the model not just take it out of the box
its still like that, some people just like diecast more than building models
You may not believe what I’m about to tell you… there are more than just one company producing models. Some are already built
Prebuilt and build it yourself models have coexisted for a long time
Lol there still are those kind if that's what you want. Not everyone has the patience required to fiddle around with tons of small parts.
Yes finally your back dude
🫡 Thanks for the patience!
I love the F 14
Same here! I want to get another manufacturer model. I may go for the Calibre Wings version.
Thnk You My Friend also May I asks about the Price of the Diorama and what are its measurements???
Your welcome! I’m not sure what they go for now. Here is there facebook page facebook.com/basekraft?mibextid=LQQJ4d
wear did u buy it from would have been nice to know
I got it from eBay for about $120.
Where do you buy it??? I need it🤩😍
I got it on ebay for around $125
Phoenix missiles have shot down a lot of planes. 3:13 They were fired by Iranian Tomcats.
awesome, nice airfighter models review
Thanks for watching!
Can’t decide which aircraft looks cooler. F15 or F14?🤔
(nothing wrong with F16, F18, F22 or F35, but there’s something special about the Eagle and Tomcat)
I have an F-15 to review as well! They both are in another league.
Such beautiful looking but indeed the QA is so bad, especially whey they expect you to spend 124 USD$/118€ on it.
Where can you buy Elite Force models?
I get most of mine on ebay and on facebook by joining groups. Ive even done some good trades in facebook groups.
He is back
🫡 thank you for being patient!
Where can we buy this and other models?
I get most of my models on eBay or the flyingmule.com as well as historicaviation.com
Has anyone else noticed the carrier name on the edge of the wing @ 16:40 it says JOHN F FENNEDY instead of KENNEDY. LOL
Ohhh I noticed it and talked about it in the video. Pretty big mess up. 😂🙃
I thought the Bombcat was a D-variant?
It's ready to out rate every 5th gen fighter lawl!
If they added some flight deck crew, that would be awesome!
They do have a flight deck crew but didnt send them to me. They are painted too.
You should have some Top Gun music playing on the background, like "Highway to the Danger Zone"
I totally would have but it would have been copyrighted 🫡
Very classic 🥱🥱💥💥💥💥💥
F35 scale 1/18 👍👍👍👍👍
Cool!
very cool video!
Thank you!
I've been to sea on the Fennedy.
Long time no see, very interesting die cast, super detailing and good packaging. That canopy should polish right out. Carrier deck set Makes a nice diorama Now I just have to take a look at my beer budget to shift some cash over to my model budget. Cheers
It has been a bit. Thanks for watching!
It looks good❤
Are there any companies out there that make this kind of model for an f22 and f16?
For sure! I reviewed and F-16 and have an F-22 and F-35 as well. Which I will eventually get to reviewing. Here is my F-16 video ruclips.net/video/eX_q8xhnRsE/видео.htmlsi=X0IBoaXJAbUPEEzD
Even though I am very interested in JC Wings Sukhoi... but when I saw this review, it felt scary to see the quality of JC Wings 😅
How much does it cost? Where can I buy it? Can I buy on Amazon?
I bought mine on eBay for about $125
Thanks!
Get a model aircraft carrier and put that f 14 on it
I forgot i was subbed to the channel 😅 nice jet 👍
🫡 Thanks for watching!
CAN YOU SHOW ME THE TORNADO IDS AND MIRAGE F1 PLEASE
Nice thumbnail made it look 1:12 scale
Hey where would I buy this model?
I got mine on ebay for around $125
I've watched your videos before and they were very good. But I do have to ask you. Why did you choose JC? There's other better quality model companies like century wings, yes caliber wings is similar but the paint and details are alot better. Century wings has better attaching ordinance.
Also here's a bit of history for you. The Iranians used the Phoenix to great affect and shot down quite a few airports, also the Phoenix has a range of around 100 nautical miles.
I do like your channel keep it up.
Thanks for watching! I agree, there are several other manufacturers (which I own a lot of..) that are better quality. I went with JC Wings on this one bc the photos looked Amazing and I have never owned one of their models so I thought I would give it a try. Definitely left a bitter taste for me though.. I may buy another one of their models in the future to see if I just got a bad one.
Good info!
@@MilitaryVehicleReviews you're welcome, yeah I agree with you about the other manufacturers also the scheme are ok. I also have alot of other manufacturers models mine are mostly Century wings and calibre then a couple HM.
What flight deck is that???
I think its the USS Enterprise from a company called Basekraft. I found them on facebook.
Pity its so small :((
Why dont you built a kitset of one?
I plan to get to kit models sometime in the future and I did review a 1:18 scale F-14! Check it out. ruclips.net/video/gg2CzOm-SuM/видео.htmlsi=6u-5lkLH9OVPtpzL
Your back where have you been?
It has been a bit. Thanks for your patience
nice!
You are the best
🫡 thank you!
