#splatoon3 #mapdesign #flanking
the idea of "objective lines" is very useful as someone trying to design maps for a splatoon-in-minecraft project. very interesting 👍
Tell me more
Have you seen mineplex's minigame that's basically splatoon?
I believe one of his earlier Splatoon 3 videos goes a bit more in depth with examples if you're wanting references.
@@watersucker5056 There's a mod for Minecraft called Splatcraft on Curseforge. It adds a lot of the weapons from Splatoon, as well as other stuff like crates, grates, and some unique mechanics like ink vat. A few of the community members like to make maps and host servers from time to time to play on said maps.
@@watersucker5056 TELL ME WHYYY
I think that there's a thing you can do expanding on the objective line analysis, by drawing lines perpendicular to the objective line at each point, showing an "objective gradient" across the entire space of the map; and the thing you'll find is that brinewater sneaky puts you solidly in the "enemy should control this area" side of the map.
Gradient would be along the line, "objective frontier" is probably a better name
What you really want instead of perpendicular lines are semi-circular arcs, because your ability to control an area is defined by your weapon's range, which radiates from your point on the objective line. I do this kind of analysis in the What Am I Doing videos.
Now I know how you feel about the word 'good.' But you can't deny that doing a standing backflip would cement you as one of the most good Sploon content creators.
brinewater is honestly super fun. it can get frustrating in rainmaker cuz of its size but it doesnt feel as small and has plenty of high/low ground and hiding spots to have fun with.
I only ever played turf war in Splatoon 2, but Pit was my fav map, by far - it was certainly the most Interesting to play at with the complex terrain & those conveyor belts
I hope it makes it to S3 one day, and not totally ruined
That said, that sneaky entrance to Brinewater Mid was instantly my fav part of the map, the fact you can just drop from spawn right there & almost completely bypass Mid, it’s fantastic for if you’ve gotten pushed back to spawn & staggered
If not for how weird Rainmaker makes the map, Piranha Pit would've been my pick for best Splatoon map in the series.
i liked pits layout but i keep tunnel visioning and getting screwed over by the conveyor belts
@@SquidSchool could the use of checkpoints make the normal layout viable? to make the objective line not a straight line like its rm layout, maybe youd have to go from the left conveyor belt to a final checkpoint near where the clam blitz basket is placed for example
RUclips was mega drunk and notified me of this 3 days after it was posted, and after I had already watched it.
this is a also a classic example of mental stack. checking the brinewater flank isnt necessarily difficult on its own, but it drops out of the queue of things youre paying attention to if youve given enough other things higher mental priority.
That was something I noticed immediately on this stage during ranked battles, and almost always go for this play. I'm typically successful with it, but the objective line conversation is new to me, so I'll keep that in mind too
Thanks for reminding us about Piranha Pit, one of the best maps in the series imo
Splatoon 3 has flanks?
Funniest shit I've read today
Hey, he never said they were GOOD flanks😂
most stages don't, but at least flounder is like entirely flanks
Very insightful. I never thought to think about the timing of flanks that is changed based on how far from spawn it is. By thinking about it that way, you can change which flanks you need to check at the beginning of the game. For instance, although that flank on brine water needs to be watched, the other side flank takes longer to get to, so they would only need to watch it after the time they took the rainmaker.
thank you so much for this!
i play S+ on the vanilla dapples and have always taken this route and it has somehow nearly always worked, and now i understand not only why, but this concept of the objective lines can be used not only to flank but to place incredibly aggro or stealth beacons, ala "These will never get hunted down or appear in an enemy sightline till they explicitly check map etc"!
So that's who they are. I would always run into Strawberry Limeade in Anarchy Open and get tilted 'cause they would always beat me. I never knew who they were but I knew they were freaking good.
Because I know I am in average worse than the rivals when facing 1v1, I always try to flank. In splatoon 3 that is really hard, but this map makes it good. I wish the next new splatoon maps gets more interesting routs to flank, or at the very least they get more interesting in general.
I wish the brinewater stage was better. Maybe if they made things like "stairs" and grated walkways to help the defenders then it would be a better stage overall.
Maybe something you could do is toss a point sensor on that ramp, it would be a pretty quick way to check that flank at least long enough for you to figure out how many enemy players actually just went to mid
Would it be a fair definition to call flanking "purposefully removing yourself from the objective line to gain the element of surprise and/or a more advantageous position against someone on the objective line"?
Not a bad summary of it
Stuff like that is why I like dashing towards random props on the map after I get splatted in some matches. Some players will pay attention to movement far way or around them, but can lose their notes pretty quickly in a skirmish
I think another important thing to consider is at 2:40 while watching the other perspective. The large pillar blocks sight from anyone jumping down to that position and without seeing it, it's harder to anticipate a flank
as someone who plays flank this route's timing kept confusing me at the beginning because I would end up overextending because of how early you can actually find an advantageous position.
This is what I’m currently working on
The method of players in their game and I realize that very little player even at high level play methodically
That lack of decision making can be fatal but overall good players play better
Tho I believe that if I master my aggro side the playstyle I have could work
Play how you want as long as you try to not focus on only one part of the game
Fascinating
Are we going to gloss over the fact this guy had the balls to not only show his butt being kicked vs a top team, but also his butt being kicked by a top player in a very different game?
So I'm definitely a casual low-level player been playing a lot of salmon run lately but I probably put about 2k hours into the turf war in Splatoon 2 and this shortcut has been money
15k people have learned to check this area XD
I love that flank
guess im checking the map for ink there at the start of every game
Competitive players don’t have to look with the sight line like you suggested though. They peak at the map when they move down, and they surely will see you doing the flank, and out of position. They put 2 people on you and then it’s 4 v 3 and your team is screwed.
does anyone have a link to the song for your intro and outro cause i really like it and want to know if there’s a full version
will you do a new tier list because of the new weapons and kits?
So cool to know I'm not the only one with exp in competitive smash that also plays Splatoon religiously now haha. Still far better at smash than Splatoon though.
Would've been fun being roommates if things ended up that way.
Thank you brinewater, maybe you are not that bad after all.
What flanks?
Brinewater W
Based fellow White Marth enjoyer
Does anyone wanna be my friend and play splatoon? I get banned from every server i join and nobody likes me or wants to be my friend and I'm really lonely and desperate and I'm not good at anything but I wanna have a friend
Hot take: Brinewater is splatoon 3's moray towers. In a bad way
