    I used to work at that plant in the early 70s and actually loaded glass marbles Into short covered hoppers like the one in the video. At that time that was done there on the front corner of the building before the siding crosses the street. I shot a picture of 105 sitting at the grain elevator in Cecil Ohio oh Thanksgiving weekend this year.

      Interesting I didn’t know what they were moving on these trains

      @@ScottTaipaleRail they actually make glass at that plant. They shape it into those marbles to ease transport and to move the glass to the pots where it gets melted to make the insulation. Interesting to see. The big hoppers most likely have the sand and or other materials needed to make the glass.

    Nice video Scott. I really love that old GP9, nice to see it still in its original look & not altered with a chopped hood.

      Thank you. I don't get many opportunities to film an unchopped unit

    I know where that is ... that's right next to St. John's, isn't it?

    • @ScottTaipaleRail
      @ScottTaipaleRail  7 лет назад +1

      Yes right across the street. The spur curved around the north and east sides of the church

      A few years back, I did a photo shoot at St. John's. Don't recall any trains running that day.

      Sure did! I need to find that camera ... not sure which nook or cranny it ended up in when I moved ... and cruise over here to the great viewing track we have, only half a mile away!

      @@andrewworman1200 As I recall, it's something like you can't go through a public grade crossing at more than 15mph without ditch lights. You don't _need_ ditch lights, but there are operational consequences for not having them. (Also, I read in comments somewhere on RUclips that a working Mars light is an acceptable substitute for ditch lights, that's grandfathered into the regulations.)
