  • In this video I will go over step by step on how to change your 392 or 6.4L oil. I am using the factory recommended oil and filter because that is my choice but feel free to us the oil and or filter of YOUR choice. Lets not make this a debate on what is the "right" oil or filter to use.
    Hopefully this video will be helpful and informative and please share this video so other people will also find it helpful and informative as well!

    Good video to explain to newbies. I've been doing my own for over 32 years, but just about ready to do my 2019 F8 Scat Pack for the first time and wanted to see if there were any tricks. Never too old to learn!😊 Seems straight forward, a 10mm and a 13mm. Also, I cringed when you dripped all that old oil on your driveway! Lol. I always save a big piece of cardboard, at least a 3'x3' piece to put down under the drain pan. Keeps the garage floor clean and/or the driveway. I always prefill my filters too with fresh oil before installing them, especailly when they're mounted straight up and down. Also, not sure if the drain plugs are magnetic from the factory, but it's always good to check the bevel on the end of it if it is for any metal filings. Thanks for the video.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  4 года назад

      Thanks! Haha that is true and always something to learn. I love that F8 green it looks so good and enjoy the heck out of your Challenger! That is a good idea to keep the oil from getting on the concrete but I always remove it with a pressure washer and a cleaner because I am always washing something lol. Unfortunately they are not magnetic but that is a great idea to always check them. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy!

    • @whiskeytangofoxtrot4523
      @whiskeytangofoxtrot4523 4 года назад +1

      MeanBee392 yeah, I'm always still learning stuff too. Most of that is thanks to RUclips. 😉 with everyone ordering from Amazon, you'll always have cardboard being delivered right to your door. Lol. When I prepare to do my oil changes I put my ratchet, socket, oil filter wrench, a roll of shop paper towels and a can of brake clean under the car. I know I'll need all those things. When I do an oil change on my 11 Ram 1500 hemi, it gets messy removing the filter. Oil runs down the side of the engine, the rack and pinion setup and the front cross member. I use the brake clean spray to wash all that oil off those parts just to keep it clean and keep it from dripping off onto the garage floor and driveway. Leaves no residue behind either. Most of it evaporates, what doesn't, lands on the cardboard. Works great.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  4 года назад +1

      Haha that is very true amazon does supply us with enough cardboard to catch oil drips from an oil change. That is very smart to put everything under the car that way you don't have to keep getting up and down to get tools and supplies. I also use brake clean and it does work really good but I don't like recommending it to people who haven't used it before because if the vehicle is hot they are changing to oil on and they are not careful it is very flammable and could cause a big problem. That's how my Duramax is also and it makes such a big mess and loves to run down on top on my skid plate. Thanks for all of your support and sharing what you like to do when changing your oil buddy!

    Hey Man. Glad I remembered you put this video out there. I am doing my first oil change on my Scatpack today or tomorrow. I am sure the skid plate might be mildly different but outside of that it should be the same. I was pretty miffed that the owners manual or the SRT performance booklet didn’t have any information about what filter or oil to use. Just said to use oil meeting Chrysler’s requirements. But never once had any information what weight oil the 6.4 requires or anything . My owners manual only had 3.6 and 5.7 information in it. Had to trust the internet to buy my stuff and fortunately what I read was correct.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  2 года назад +1

      Hey brother! Hopefully your oil change went smoothly! It is weird that they don't put much info out there on the 392 for oil and filter. But they are factory filled with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and the bottle will be labeled SRT. You can also use the SRT oil filter from Dodge as well. Glad to hear what you bought was correct so that's the first good step lol. Hope you and you're family are doing well brother!

    I’ve been changing my own oil since Nixon was President. Since I’m considering a new Scatpack Challenger thought I’d do some research on how easy an oil change would be. Thanks for the excellent and informative video. One thing I would like to comment on is protecting your skin from contact with used oil. Skin is porous and some very nasty elements in used motor oil (as well as gasoline and other solvents) is absorbed through skin. This stuff ends up in your liver which is something you need to maintain as carefully as your amazing hemi. Get a box of disposable gloves and keep that oil off your skin. I wish that I had this information years ago.

    Good video. Here's a few minor tips. 1) safety glasses always when under cars, 2) latex gloves keep oil off hands, 3) prefill oil filter is ideal, 4) given the high cost of oil, esp. PUP SRT ($8-15 per qt), I always up-end my empty jugs into a clean container and you'd be surprised at the several ounces of oil you'll get out over a few hours. It's an effortless money saving tip. And 5) I keep a spreadsheet with all maintenance and save receipts/scan them into computer.

    I always prefill my filter, also dump my catch can (which I didn't see you do) and I never put the skidplate back on until AFTER I start to check for leaks. Used newspaper or cardboard saves the trouble of cleaning dirty oil dribbles from your concrete.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  4 года назад +4

      Thanks for sharing. I never prefill my filter because I don't want any contaminated oil on the clean side of my oil filter element. This video was about and oil change and not about the catch can because of a lot of people not having one. I do have videos on the catch can ware I do mention that I empty it every oil change but thanks for your concern on that. As I am a full time mechanic I always double check everything so I never have the fear of an oil leak after I change my oil that's why I put the skid plate back up. But if you are unsure then it is a good idea to leave the skid plat off. You are right and news paper and cardboard does work nice for that but so does brake cleaner for cleaning up any of the oil as well. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🐝

    Haven't changed my own oil in years but thinking I might start again because I have an SP on order and I don't entirely trust the kids working at dealerships. I'm glad there are bolts on the skid plate and not those horrible plastic fasteners. I suppose shaker will give me an extra step.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  3 года назад +1

      Congrats on ordering your new SP! I am the same way and that is why I do all of my own maintenance. It is very nice that they used bolts because the plastic push pins can be a huge pain. You are correct haha the shaker will give you a few more steps but it worth it because the shakers look awesome!

    Great video! About to do my '12 SRT Challenger oil myself for the first time. Can't find shops that carry the 0-40 anymore. Only suggestion I'd have is to check for leaks before you replace that skid plate in case something is leaking on top of it that you can't see. Good thing for me is my skid plate was smashed years ago from a huge pot hole so I don't have one anymore. Haha. Lost my plastic that funnels air to my brembro brakes too and it cause my rotors to warp. Need to get those replaced.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  2 года назад

      Thanks! Very nice and nothing wrong doing it yourself and personally I think its better anyways. That is a good suggestion and thank you for mentioning that. Wow that must of been a crater and not a pot hole HAHA! That sucks about your rotors but they will warp if they don't have that air flow to keep them cool. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I bought the Pittsburgh Automotive ramps, a waste oil container, wheel chocks and a oil filter wrench from harbor freight, then got 12 quarts of oil and a filter off Amazon all for around under $200. Less than what the dealership wants to change the oil on these things in my area.

    Man I wish my oil filter was that low. That seems lower than the 5.7. Didn’t seem to be nearly as messy as my changes. Haha. Nicely done and great video!! The oil plug always has a good feel when you tighten it. There is always a point where it feels like you should stop torquing it up.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  5 лет назад

      I haven't worked on the 5.7 but I would imagine that the filter is in a different spot. Haha well thanks brother but I have done a lot of oil changes on different engines so maybe I just make it look a bit easier. That's awesome that you do your own oil changes and I would always recommend to people to at leas change their oil once. That's very true about the drain plug and it does have a feel to it when you are torquing it down. Thanks for watching and commenting brother.

    I know its been a while since you posted this video... first of all thanks! I do all my own work on my cars and changed lots of oil, but my '17 Scat just came out of warranty and I'd been getting the oil done at the dealership until now ( I know I don't have to, but for ease and peace of mind of not ever having to worry about fighting for warranty thats what I did). I watched your video for any tricks, to help and the first one seems simple but using the wood to help get a bit of lift was great, without it I couldn't get my jack under the car! My question is about your front lip spoiler extra corner pieces (air dam), what brand/model is it? I've looked at several to get that hell cat look and many are HUGE! Yours is perfect. Also what color are your under hood trim accessories? My car is Go Mango but I was thinking of contrasting with blue but I've seen several different blue colors. Thanks for the video!

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  Год назад +1

      You're welcome and thanks for watching the video. I don't blame you and when it is under warranty that is always the easiest and safest route to go like you did. That's awesome that my video was able to help you out and give you a few tips and tricks. These cars sit so low it's really hard to get anything under them. Thanks and the company that make them is down force solutions and that is what they call their two piece splitter. I also really liked the look of them and everything from the extensions to the hardware is very top notch and I would highly recommend them. They do take a bit to install but totally worth it. My under hood accessories are just bule anodized aluminum from billet technologies. I would also check out American brother designs because you can get their accessories painted with whatever color you choose and its real OEM Mopar paint. Hopefully that all helps and thanks for stopping in watching and commenting!

    Is that the stock dipstick on your car? I have a pre-production 2015 SRT 392, and I'm always keeping an eye out for differences between mine, and standard production cars. Mine has a yellow loop for a handle, not a tee. I'm not sure if it's a Scat Pack vs SRT thing, or a production change. Thanks.

      Yes it is but I changed the handle out for the blue billet one but it did originally had the yellow ring like you are talking about. I am also not sure what it is either but I would be curious to know! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Hey there Mike from CA. Just recently got myself a used 2013 challenger SRT392. 96k miles. I have no idea what oil brand the last owner used. I have heard good things about the Mobile 1 but have always used penzoil for my V6 challenger. Just wandering do I use penzoil or mobile 1. Thanks. Also I noticed my mpg is slightly lower than normal
    Do you recommend a tune up.

    • @MeanBee392
      @MeanBee392  4 года назад +2

      Hello Mike! Congrats on your new SRT 392 buddy! Mobile 1 makes a great oil and so does Penzoil with there Super Platinum. Really it all comes down to personal preference for what brand but you cant go wrong with either one! The only thing I would recommend is sticking to the one that you end up picking. Do you know if the car has had a tune up and if you don't I would recommend doing one for sure and that will help your MPG and also make sure you are running at least 91 octane or higher in it for better MPG as well. Hopefully that all makes sense and if you have any questions pleas reach out to me and I will do my best to help you out! Thanks for watching and commenting and take care buddy and enjoy the heck out of your new ride!
