    This death scene legit made me cry and I don't cry over fiction usually. But Jesus she was such a nice girl and there was such strong character development in Nina. Morally, she lived in the grey and did what she had to to survive. But when they shot her like a dog, my heart sank. It was honestly a huge shock after the glimmer of hope they gave us at the beginning of the scene. This was a masterful exhibition of ironic tragedy that should be appreciated for all that it is.

      Chris Wakefield -- It is the very best way to execute someone. It seems counterintuitive, but some of the most hated and reviled states in the world also had the most humane methods of execution. In Germany, carrying out the execution with the Fallbeil, a guillotine, took less than ten seconds once the condemned was informed that their automatic appeal for clemency had been denied. In the Soviet Union and the satellites, the execution you just saw was also basically how it was carried out. Minor details vary, in East Germany the condemned walked into a room where he was shot in the head by an officer waiting behind the door. The only country left actively executing people this way is Belarus. The Russian Federation also retains the death penalty, however it is suspended by presidential moratorium and life without parole is the maximum sentence.
      If I had someone executed I personally cared about, this is how it would get done.

    Execution in the post-stalin USSR:
    1. prisoner didn't know date of his execution.
    2. A prosecutor lied to the prisoner that he must sign some documents about his pardon in the another room next door.
    3.The prisoner entered the room and got shot in the back of the head by an executor which hided behind the door.
    4. The pistol was a powerful air gun or a small-caliber gun, not a usual firearm.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 5 лет назад

      Indeed, in actual fact it was most likely far more humane than the US where the prisoner is made to lie on the gurney / stand on the trapdoor whilst the sentence is read out and so on. And even more humane than it was in Britain, even though it was over in seconds if you believe Pierrepoint. I think only East Germany from 1966-81 was even more unexpected than the Soviet method, the condemned prisoner was walked into an empty room, the executioner was waiting behind the door and shot him from behind inthe base of the skull before he could even comprehend what was going on, the method was called ‘’unexpected neckshot’’ (unerwarteter Genickschuss). Until 1966 the Fallbeil (guillotine, but shorter than the French one) was used and still the prisoner had to undergo a few seconds of terror before his decapitation. The last time the guillotine was used in France was 1977, fairly recently, and the last garrotting was in in 1974 in Spain under Franco's regime.

    • @statinskill
      @statinskill 5 лет назад +4

      Yeah well I'd rather not spend years fighting it, getting strapped down and needles inserted and then a last minute stay and that maybe even a number of times. Krylova could have spent years of misery on death row in the US before she gets killed in some elaborate American way. Elaborate. Because for what can normally be accomplished with a gun or a rope, you have to invent some sort of insane killing machine like a gas chamber or the electric chair. Or use some pseudomedical method you can't get right the past 20-30 years legal injection has been around.
      But that's just me, looks like you guys prefer to really walk every inch of that last mile. Maybe like the guy they hanged who cried out "don't make me walk so fast" qhen they dragged him to the gallows and then complained his feet didn't touch every step of the stairs.

    The guards in any prison don't have to tell the prisoner where they're going. When a Category A prisoners, like Nina are moved,they give very little notice to prevent escapes. Category A prisoners are those deemed the most dangerous if allowed to escape.

    I would agree that this is realistic. From what I undertand this is the way the Soviets would carry out an execution, a pistol shot to the back of the head when not expected. I guess it does have its advantages in causing less anxiety for the victim. I suppose the only way they could make the accused endure less anxiety would be to tell them that the death penalty had been commuted or that all charges against had been dropped and they were being released. That would give the accused two or three seconds of joy prior to being shot. I also think they should have put the drop cloth on the floor in front of the desk before execution. Of course they probably have no problem with some other inmate cleaning up the mess.

    • @arthurmerchant8016
      @arthurmerchant8016 4 года назад +2

      The drop cloth would have been too obvious a clue before the official read the sentence. But a more innocuous and chilling clue was the mop and bucket tucked in the corner as she was escorted in. The reason for it's placement right there became obvious......shortly.

    I don't think there is any good way to die. maybe in your sleep at the age of 80-85, warm and comfortable. but most people die painfully through sickness or accident. I would be happy if this was my death. quick, painless and no fuss. Easy come, easy go.

    Nina sergeevna death 😢

  • @bharathk98
    @bharathk98 7 лет назад +7

    I don't feel sad about her death. Nina is willing to betray anyone for her own safety. She betrayed Russia for America and fell in love with Beeman until he killed her friend but changed her mind when he promised to free her from her life as a spy.
    When he was unable to, she went back with Russia, pleading mercy for her betrayal, and used Beeman by spying on him.
    She then fell in love with a worker she originally hated because he saved her from a lie detector test from the American agency.
    But when Russia sent her to prison, she was a total bitch to her cellmate. She then pretended to be nice to her and told the secrets for her freedom.
    She has this coming.

      @@viazon No, that is pretty much the definition of a coward. Her cellmate befriended her and trusted her, and she betrayed her to shave off some years off her sentence.

      Communist China still free from US. Communism in Sovien Union is : Free higher education, free medicine, free houses, free apartments. Many people in the Russian Federation want to return the USSR again. And, he will return. Communism is the happiness and freedom of every person. If it were not for Khrushchev, the USSR existed until now. Communist China enjoys its existence. You will grow up, and you will understand the difference. Communism is the only way to get rid of the bondage of the slavery of capitalism. Death to capitalism. Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite.

    • @eflint1
      @eflint1 7 лет назад +2

      I'm allot older than you. Communism is slavery. Your life is planned out for you by the State. Open your eyes!! Why aren't people trying to escape to communist countries? Why aren't people sneaking INTO North Korea or Cuba? Stop being an idiot. And the Russian Federation can return to communism if the want to. But the Soviet Union is not coming back to re-enslave other nations like the Baltic States or Ukraine and force them to return to communism.

    sorry but that's not how it was done in real life, You get one appeal from your district, they don't tell you right away, if the appeal is denied then you are taken to a room with a pole in the middle of the room, your belt is removed and you get strapped to the pole, shot then your armpits are cut to the bone as well as the inner thighs. you bleed out with no mess, fyi the state sends your family a bill for the bullit

    • @user-ot1ue5qc5e

      In a way it is more humane to execute someone with a quick shot to the head right after the sentence has been passed down. Almost no pain and no time for the accused to process and dwell on their impending death, causing less fear and anxiety. If I had a choice, I would choose this way any day of the year over the bureaucratic nightmare of death row in the US. I would be forced to wait years, and even then it would be lethal injection or the chair.
      In fact, If I were traitor in the US, I would likely be put in solitary 23 hours a day. That is pretty much a living hell. I'm no socialist apologist, but you tell me what is more humane?

      Nina committed treason, and instead of making her spend 23 hours a day in a small cell waiting decades to be electrocuted or get the needle, they shot her on the spot. She felt no pain, and the anxiety wasn't prolonged. I'm no communist, but this is more humane than what the US does, so use another example.
