    In my humble opinion, the film is art. And just like art the unknowns should be answered or interpreted by the viewer. For me, the whispering in the ear of the last words, the putting on of the ring, and the reappearance of the condemned man are all symbolic. Even if we - as the audience, were to hear the last words (what was whispered to the warden) we will eventually forget those words and carry on with our lives. However, the warden will forever have those words etched in his memory. Putting the ring on, is symbolic of the warden faced with the responsibility of returning to his normal life (maybe he's married)... and being expected to not let the burden of the trauma he just actively witness not effect his personal life. The reappearance of the executed man in his backseat (also like the whisper) symbolizing that the memory of the man he helped put to death will always haunt his memory... the warden will forever carry the man with him.

      @lynnbrown : This type of death penalty is a very big mistake of this humanity! To say so, against God's will, made and realized by human hands, ethically an incredible situation, inhumane, cruel and barbaric! If it were up to me, this type of execution would be stopped immediately, worldwide! You have to imagine it: Someone kills a person, then the state punishes him or her, the state goes and makes itself a murderer? Where is the logic in that? Thank God my current girlfriend sees it that way too, if my girlfriend saw it differently or were in favor of this stare, I would leave her, immediately. I am a total opponent of this cruel punishment created by people, which is not in line with dignity of man, no matter what happened? Anyone who supports the death penalty doesn't even know what he or she is talking about? All the best to you and stay healthy! 👍 🙂

    Regardless of whether the prisoner "deserved" to die, I think this short film depicts a perspective not often explored in capital punishment. I think that the warden feels that something isn't right about what they do. Frankly, I would find it troubling if those who participate in an execution are able to sleep at night following an execution for quite some time. Even if you support the death penalty, don't you agree that something just isn't right when another human being is killed, regardless of the reasoning? It just seems so incredibly wrong. I am simply unable to perform the mental gymnastics to justify killing someone, even if they might not "deserve" to live. Some may argue that it is "justice" for the victim's family, and yet when a high profile prisoner is executed, sometimes people will cheer outside the prison walls. That doesn't sound like the result of justice; it sounds like vengeance. Almost as if the death penalty is simply a legal avenue to bloodthirsty vengeance. That just seems so incredibly morally repulsive and wrong. Just the thought of that make me feel a little sick to my stomach... absolutely repulsive.

      @@zippymufo9765 It seems that you severely misinterpreted my comment. I want to make it clear that my opposition to capital punishment is NOT in defense of murderers. Frankly, some of the worst criminals probably deserve a fate far worse than death. But no civilized society would deliver such a punishment. It is our job, as 𝘤𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 citizens, to reject the barbarism that murders live by. There is nothing righteous or correct about vengeance. Just as the crimes committed by those often sentenced to death are sickening, so is the barbaric response that is capital punishment. Let’s instead lock these criminals up for the remainder of their lives so that they can’t hurt anyone again, while still setting a good example to society on the civilized way of doing things.

    • @1SonorGirl
      @1SonorGirl 3 года назад +11

      @@maxinator2002 I understand your point completely and for the most part agree with you. However understand this, my husband was a maximum security corrections officer. Many of the inmates there were what you would call "lifers." Some "lifers" were given multiple life sentences for very heinous violent crimes and sentenced to death. After New York abolished Capital punishment these inmates had nothing left to lose. There was no consequence anymore and in fact contributed to the murder of other inmates and corrections officers as well. It made an already dangerous job even more so in my opinion. So this is a very slippery slope when it comes to the death penalty. What do you do with these type of offenders? Some people are too dangerous to live within society or even within a prison setting. The line between vengeance and justice can be blurred at times especially when you lose a loved one to a vicious crime. I know because I felt the very same way when my husband was murdered by a drunk and drugged out driver. I was angry and bitter for a long time during my year long hospital stay. The one thing I can tell you is that no one wants to become an executioner. It takes a very strong minded and disciplined person to do so, and still it has a profound effect on those involved. Sometimes I think people forget what its like for the correction officers who put their lives on the line everyday to keep our communities safe. The cops may put the bad guys in there but the CO's live in that environment. Sorry if I rambled, I just wanted to give my perspective.

      BUSTDOWNSATAN That’s where you’re dead wrong. My Dad was a guard at the Iowa State Prison in the early 1960’s, when Iowa still had the death penalty of hanging. My Dad was there when they hung the last three inmates. He actually escorted one of the inmates up the 13 steps. He watched them all die. It caused him nightmares, he told me later on when I was older. He needed that job to support his family. One of those inmates actually had stabbed to death his best friend right there in prison. My Dad said he was relieved that Iowa no longer had the death penalty. So yes, pray for those that are working in States that still do this. • @billiembadjie9668
      @billiembadjie9668 4 года назад +14

      Phillip Vietri - probably the point of the film was to show that the Warden did not believe in the death plenty. But due to the law has to be the person with the convicted till the end. This of course is just a short film, but all the same realistic too. In the USA the convicted are on death row many years, and wardens get to know some prisoners more personally. Here in the UK when we still had the death sentence, once the death sentence was passed by the judge, the convicted had just three weeks for appeals etc, hence possibly easier for all concerned, the governor, the convicted and both sets of families of victim and convicted.

    • @lynnbrown2409

      In my humble opinion, the film is art. And just like art and the unknowns should be answered or interpreted by the viewer.

    There are too many unknowns here for this film to be meaningful.
    What did the prisoner whisper in the ear of the Warden?
    How did the prisoner reappear?
    Is there a relationship with that reappearance and the Warden putting on that ring?
    Having a film that leaves you thinking is fine, but there should be some meaningful clues for speculation. But this is just a bunch of question marks.
