Inspired by the true events, Siren tells the story of the last moments of Josefa "Juanita" Segovia, The first woman hanged in California on July 5th, 1851. Amongst the drunken revelry on July 4th miner Fredrick Cannon attacked Josefa Segovia and her lover Jose in their home. Initially driven away Cannon returned later only to be fatally stabbed by Josefa. Rumor quickly spread as to who this Mexican American woman, once an accepted member of the community, truly was: a whore, a killer, a siren, leading men to their death? Siren shows Josefa's precious last moments as she gathers her strength to face a lynch mob, injustice and death. The papers called her "Juanita" to try to erase her but Josefa's act of self defense made her a legend.
Inspirada en eventos verdaderos, Siren cuenta la historia de los últimos momentos de Josefa "Juanita" Segovia, la primera mujer colgada en California el 5 de julio de 1851. Entre la juerga borracha el 4 de julio, el minero Fredrick Cannon atacó a Josefa Segovia y su amante José, en su casa. Inicialmente expulsado, Cannon regresó más tarde y fué apuñalado fatalmente por Josefa. De pronto corrió el rumor de quién era realmente esta mujer mexicoamericana, alguna vez miembro aceptado de la comunidad: una prostituta, una asesina, una sirena, que conducen a los hombres a su muerte. Propmaster went cheap on depicting the rifle. Blued , not browned, brass furniture wasn't used on Sam Hawken's rifles. Thats a Thompson Center.
She wasn't hung from a gallows, she was hung from one of the bridges in Downieville. She also didn't have a hood placed over her head, it was just a small blindfold.

Were you actually dropped? If you did did you use a safety harness so you don't accidentally get hanged and choke? Because it sounded like you gasped for breath a bit when you supposedly fell
These are all acting and filming "tricks". We had a whole team working behind this scene and no, I wasn't actually dropped. 😉

Great performance! I think what could've made it better is the noose being tightened and the hood placed before the rope. However if you were not wearing a harness when you supposedly fell you might actually get hanged and strangle. Great scene anyway

In real life she had a trial and was sentenced to death. So It was a legal execution
doug clark That was not even a trial, it was just a mob of white angry men who sentenced her to death without giving a shit about her or her husband’s side of the story (or anyone who wasn’t white for that matter).
there was no judge or sheriff in the "town." The court was assembled from impostors, she was convicted under the unspoken "miner's law" of a " life for life". It was a trial, but a Lynch trial
