The cam is about $650. I am waiting on valve spring costs for production. The missing element is a low cost short runner intake, we made that power with a billet intake which is stupid expensive unless you are running one of the heads up classes, like RvW, LDR or X275 where these are the norm.

Hey guys I have a 96 SN95 GT. It was my high school car that fixed up with my dad. The car is now over 155K miles. For a while I was considering replacing the car, but I don't have the heart to do it. The car is very clean except the motor. The 5.0 swap is a no brainer but this motor has my attention. I like the displacement and the push rod simplicity. With my dad being old school this motor seems like a better option. Looking to start the project in a couple years. Plan is a Godzilla motor 650hp-700hp NA, T56, coil overs, and built rear-end. Any knowledge of all the challenges and costs would be helpful. We are car guys doing some but not all work. My father has a 47 year machine repair background at ford so please consider that haha. Goal is a street car that dances on the edge of scary but drivable.

WHAT DETERMINES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT A SMALL BLOCK AND A BIG BLOCK IS? IT IS THE ROTATING MASS, THE WEIGHT OF THE CRANKSHAFT. THE SMALL BLOCK FORD,CHEVY, CHRYSLER ARE IN THE RANGE OF 40LBS WHILE THE BIG BLOCKS ARE IN THE RANGE OF 65LBS. THE ONLY REASON THE BUICK 455 MADE THE MOST TORQUE WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CRANKSHAFT WAS 10LBS HEAVIER THAN THE FORD 460 AND CHEVY 454 AND THAT WAS THE REASON. BUT IT WAS A TRADE OFF BECAUSE IT SPINS UP SLOWER AS OPPOSED TO THE FORD AND CHEVY. IN DRAG RACING THE KEY IS TO KEEP THE RPM UP AND THE BUICK WITH ITS HEAVIER ROTATING MASS FAILED IN THIS AREA. THE PONTIAC ENGINE IS CONSIDERED A SMALL BLOCK BUT THAT IS DESPUTABLE. BY CRANK WEIGHT IT CAN FALL CLOSER INTO BEING A BIG BLOCK. FOR YEARS I ALWAYS WONDERED WHY THE PONTIAC 326 NEVER BECAME A COMPETITOR TO THE CHEVY 327. THE ANSWER WAS THE CRANK SHAFT WEIGHT. THE PONTIAC 326 CRANK IS HEAVIER AND WITH SMALLER CUBIC INCHES WHICH TAKE IN LESS AIR/FUEL THEY MAKE LESS POWER. SO THE PONTIAC WAS SLOWER TO REACH RPMS AND THE REASON IT COULD NOT COMPETE AGAINST CHEVY'S 327. DIESEL CRANKS ARE HEAVIER FOR A REASON.
EVAN, THE QUESTION I HAVE HERE IS THE WEIGHT OF THIS GODZILLA CRANK AS OPPOSED TO THE OTHER FORD ENGINES LIKE THEIR BIG BLOCK AND THE 351 WINDER WHICH HADE A HEAVIER CRANK WHICH WAS THE REASON IT MADE GLOBULAR AMOUNTS OF TORQUE.

I read on Hagerty that the 6.8 was going to be a destroked 7.3 with an aluminum block. I hope that's true. It would make sense for the F150, and could even be put in the Mustang. Such an engine would have huge sales potential for Ford as a crate engine.

Zero after market support , in the light of what G.M. has BEEN doing with the LS ,and now more affordable than ever. Complete business have been built on the LS in motorsports. Why has Ford waited so damn long ? Especially after the 5.4 debacle.
