Omg you have finally helped me understand why my toestop bounces when I try to stop! So helpful, thank you! I can't wait to try it because stopping has given me some serious anxiety due to not understanding how to do it properly. 😅
Fantastic. New skates are the best! Have lots of fun! I have a couple of videos on adjusting skates and checks to make on new skates. Make sure you check the wheels are rolling freely and the toe stops are nice and tight before you head out. Most importantly have fun and stay safe.
Went skating (if you can call it that) for the first time in nearly 50 years, I wish I’d watched your video before lovely Claire instructions -subbed and shared now to keep myself upright!😂😂😂
Vaguely remember having skates as a kid but never really knowing how to skate. I'm 33 now and Just bought my First pair and trying to get some tips. I must say from all the videos I've watched, the part where you show the walking and how to fix it but pushing off with your back foot was so eye opening. It was a total a ha! moment! Can't wait to get my skates and Start learning! Thanks for your video!
Thanks so much for these! I’ve always self taught (ie learn by falling) so seeing how to do these things properly is a huge help! I’m doing my first outdoor skating, and it’s a whole new world from the rink skating I’ve done in the past. Your videos are a great reference for when I’m out and try to do anything new (or figure out what I’m doing wrong) Your videos are also very cheerful and uplifting, so I don’t feel bad when I mess up or wipe out. All part of learning, right?😆 Thanks to these videos I feel far less lost, and more excited to actually get in my skates and keep learning!
Oh what a wonderful comment. I’m so glad the videos have helped you so much. You’re right, falling is all part of the journey. Sounds like you’ve absolutely got this. Happy rolling 💕🛼👍
Why couldn't we have had youtube back in the 80s? Would've made skating in your garage (where you don't have much room) a lot more productive. Though I didn't realize it at the time, I was putting on my skates and more or less going "ok now what? I guess I'll just skate in circles". You can practice balance, feet position, stopping, etc. Which then gives you more technique when at the rink. Rinks are not really practical for practicing because of all the people. I think I might just get my own pair and go to a parking garage for that. Don't have a garage anymore. Sigh.
Well, I am going to skating tomorrow. I will let you know how it turns out and I’ll try my best to follow the steps that you told us. I am only watching your video for serious purposes
Recently discovered your channel - finding your videos delightful from the ones I've seen. Very, very helpful! I'm already looking forward to putting some of these tips to use.
Thank you for your videos. I'm learning again after more than 40 years without trying. I only knew how to skate forward and then stop doing a turn. Now I'm learning all of the rest 😅. You said in your video that a big skate is a bad idea but how big? 1cm or less bigger would be OK? I'm between sizes and it's complicated 😮.
Just got my first pair of skates and have spent a couple of hours going around my local tennis court I shocked myself with how “natural” it felt (if you could even call it that 😂) I even felt confident enough to travel the 10 min journey home on my roller skates I’m yet to fall over but let’s not speak too soon
I tried marching fell 2 times but don't lose hope because falling is a compulsory step in any sport or thing in which u can possibly fall...in swimming u will drown but there will be ur divers or parents or tubes or life jackets to save u now I am a pro in marching looking for more steps ahead Happy Rolling #Rollers
@@Skatie Of course!! I have knee pads, wrist pads and a helmet I couldn't find adjustable elbow pads but it's ok I have never gotten hurt on my elbows thankfully
luckily i didn't have them for very long (so i could return them) but i tried skating at the rink for the first time in skates that were too big a few days ago and i had to come to the realization myself that i'd gotten the wrong size because of just how much trouble i was having with both the advice to keep my weight on the front trucks and to keep my knees over my toes because of how much further the toe box stuck out (i didn't have anyone knowledgeable to help when picking the size 😢 i'd just gotten them at the nearby sporting goods store)
Thank you. Glad you found the video helpful. They are Risport dance boot on a roll-line dance plate. You’re right, they’re figure skates for artistic roller skating. Well spotted x
Thank you! With skates, the best way to size your skate is to draw around your foot whilst standing and measure the total length in mm. Then, use the manufactures size guide to find the best fit. Enjoy your skating journey.
Hiii, I've came back with a question about sizing. My rollers are 270mm. My feet are 262mm and because they're wide I can't get a smaller size. It's a big difference?
Skate sizing can be so hard. Lots of people recommend the suregrip boardwalks for wider feet. You can also use different lacing patterns to relieve pressure on painful points of the foot. If a boot is too long it can put your weight on slightly the wrong part of the skate which can make learning a little tricky and cause foot pain from curling toes etc.
For skates the best way to get the correct size is to draw around your foot on a piece of paper. Make sure you’re standing up and then measure the longest part. Then see what size the manufacturer recommends based on your measurement.
So I have been shopping online for some skates and I checked my shoe size and some of my shoes are size 7.5 and some are 8 but they all fit me well.. what do I do?
This is a really important question. Skates fit differently to shoes they need to be quite snug to give you the control you need. Stand on a piece of paper and have someone draw around your feet then measure the longest part. Then if you visit the manufacture website of the skates you’re interested in match the mm measured on the paper to the size guide. This gives a much more accurate fit.
Hi :) I have a question about my sizing: I wear a size 8.5f-9f for shoes, but the skates I got only came in mens sizes so I got a 7 (8.5f) Was it a good idea to get them the same as my shoe size? Or should I have gone smaller because I imagine they'll stretch?
For skate sizing the best thing to do is measure your foot and compare that measurement to the brands sizing chart as skate size differs from street shoes.
Hi Katie I just want to say that I just took the hit of my life on my butt xd My whole back hurts I can't even stand up but I will learn to skate again when I buy my knee and elbow pads jaja Any advice not to go backwards? I love you
Ouch. I feel your pain. It happens to everyone occasionally. I have an outtake of me flying backwards. 😢. I’ve recently made a video for exercises off skates to help get muscle memory for falls. Always stay really bent in the knee and weight on the ball of your foot. You can invest in some bum / hip pads. They’re like a padded cycling shorts definitely cushion the blow. 🛼
Same here honestly, until I had my person record me skating and I was like "wow, that's not good." So now I'll start marching now that I'm a bit more comfortable
It’s ok, penguins are very sweet! 🐧. Just work on transferring your entire body weight onto each skate, think of knee over toe abs belly button over knee.. It’s really normal to skate like this at first x.
👋 Rookie Artistic skates are a good beginner skate for the ££. Ideally if you can, visit a skate shop to get fitted as skates fit differently to regular shoes.

Do I been to tighted the wheels really tight
Tighten them up and then ease them off so they roll freely without the wheel moving up and down the axel. That should give you a nice free roll.
