    Hi Skatie. I love your videos. I wish I had started watching you videos sooner. I went skating at a roller rink on 5/29/22 and I kept falling. The last time I fell I broke the bone on the outside of my left leg. My dreams of roller skating may be over because I not only need to have surgery but I will be recuperating for about 10 weeks. I’m so sad that I was foolish about my approach to skating. 😢

    Hi Katie!! Thank you so much for your videos, they have helped me so much on my beginner journey. :3
    I'm having trouble with my rolling one foot on the left. Specifically, I'm always veering slightly to my inside edge (to the right). I have tightened my trucks probably TOO much to test, and I'm still veering a little. I've been trying to focus on putting my weight over my pinky toe, and it's getting a bit better... but do you happen to have any additional tips or drills on improving this imbalance? Is it possible something is also wrong with my left skate mounting/truck/cushion that is compounding the issue?

    Hi Katie, please can you recommend a specific spanner for adjusting trucks with a kingpin/lock nut? I have the rookie artistic skates and think you have these same skates too if i’m not mistaken. But I’ve tried a few different spanners and I think I keep getting the wrong sizes for the kingpin/lock nut!

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 года назад +3

      Hi. Rookie’s webaite suggest the following sizes. Hope this helps.
      • 5/16" / 8mm - Socket for Mounting hardware. • 1/2" / 13mm - Socket for Wheel nuts. • 9/16" / 14mm - Socket for Kingpin nuts. • 1/8" Allen key • Phillips Screwdriver

    • @MisterSkids69
      @MisterSkids69 2 года назад +3

      Jumping in to answer your question, you need 9/16” or 14mm socket to loosen or tighten. That could be a socket with handle, a spanner, a skate tool, or even a pair of mole grips in a pinch. Hope that helps. These sizes are standard between most skates so it shouldn’t matter if you have Rookies or any other skate.
      Edit: I’d recommend looking up and buying a “skate tool”.

    • @howtobehumon2606
      @howtobehumon2606 2 года назад +1

      Mister Skids Ah I got the Draper 35310 9/16-Inch AF Combination Spanner on Amazon but it unfortunately doesn’t fit the lock nut properly :/ I have the multi skate tool but that doesn’t have a grip for nuts, it only has the tube shape which fits the wheels and only the top bit of the truck (not the lock nut part that you have to loosen first)

    • @MisterSkids69
      @MisterSkids69 2 года назад +1

      @@howtobehumon2606 if you can find a way to get a video up on RUclips I’m sure I could help? I’ve never heard of a locking component on kingpins beyond the nut itself and my skates do not have this. If you take a look at this video ruclips.net/video/S0DBW9Ez7Kc/видео.html you’ll see mine just had the 14mm nut on top.
      Some nuts on cars use a hairpin type locking pin to keep nuts in place, and this can be removed with needle nose pliers.
      I’ve tried googling but can’t find any images of the kingpins on your skates.

    Hi Katie, in the drill 2 im having problems. When i try heel heel and toe toe static, the moment i put my weight either on the heels or the toes, i lose control, the weight i put actually acts as an impulse and my skates go forward uncontrollably and if im not grabbing the chair it would be for sure a butt fall. But when i grab while do it, i still dont have control, the skates move anyway when i do it. If i try to do what you did of lifting both heels or toes at the same time.. Well you can imagine. What am I doing wrong or what am I not doing?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 года назад +2

      It sounds like it’s just a matter of really getting the weight over the wheels on the floor. It’s a delicate balance and will take time. Try just doing one foot at a time to find that sweet spot. The balance will come.

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 года назад +1

      You may need to loosen your trucks as suggested. If you stand in your skates do you have movement left and right by leaning on your big then little toe? If not you will have trouble getting your edges and need to loosen your trucks. Do it slowly as it can be very easy to make them too loose. 1/4 turn at a time.

      If you’re putting pressure on the big toe and little toe the skates should lean. If they’re not leaning they are too tight, if they waggle about and lean very easily then you probably need to tighten them

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 года назад

      I’d definitely take it slowly, I can’t offer specific advise but when skaters have balance issues I often suggest taking off the skates and just standing there in feet and feeling the weight into each foot. Shift around and feel the pressure points of your foot on the ground. It’s amazing how much we don’t notice as we just accept our fabulous feet do their thing without us thinking. Get in touch with your foot muscles.

    • @user-dx5wt1hx9t
      @user-dx5wt1hx9t 6 месяцев назад

      Toe stops are my go-to, for stopping when I skate backwards, and even when skating forwards, I transition to backwards to use them to stop. So I'm not removing them since I use my skates mostly outdoors, but if you don't use them for stopping and you're dancing on the spot, then maybe remove them
