Hello Olaf!!! Thanks for the confirmation c:

The science that goes on behind art always fascinates me. Like when I was in college (I got my BFA in Studio Art), everytime my teachers pointed out principles of anatomy, or color theory, or how our brains perceive things, I mean, my mind was blown every time! I don't know anything about music, but it's crazy to me how much science and language happens with it. That a small wooden instrument could hold so much weight, all because of its design... just wow.
As a pleb that's learning the guitar, I can safely say that music theory will also blow your God damn mind, even at the basic level of learning. Like, learning till you get to the circle of fifths is really not that deep down the music theory rabbit hole, but man does your brain do several backflips by the time you get there!

Yeah, the violin is a strong piece of wood, but remember, normally the force, those 27 kilos of pressure do not sit in a large area like when they used those wooden blocks in the video, the whole pressure of the strings sit on what i would say is less than a cm^2 of area shared between the legs of the bridge and the bridge itself is incredibly tiny compared to the top plate which means It cannot distribute and dissipate forces as much as the top plate, so while the violin and its top plate are pretty strong, the bridge i think must be the most overpowered piece of the violin (although i don't know how much pressure has to deal with the tailpiece, perhaps that piece is the strongest :v)
The stress on the violin isn't going down through the bride. It comes from the strings pulling the tailpiece and the scroll together, and the wood of the violin needs to resist that. That's why it can resist so much force.
The whole pressure of the strings do not rest on the bridge.
I was going to comment and ask about the fact that the area of the bridge is less, too.
I know what you mean! It was too scary to try and balance 27kg on feet the size of bridge feet.
Vicente Rodriguez “27 kilos of pressure”. I’d recommend learning basic physics before trying to analyze this
