      It's kind of amazing to be given permission to screw around. There are variables that, as a craftsman, you KNOW you are not supposed to change because the result is bad, and making bad things is wasteful and maybe even damaging to your reputation. But once you can kind of crack the shell of "what's right" and get into that "We've allocated some resources to experimentation... for science and demonstration" -- then the creativity starts to boil. It's totally awesome.

    • @pbsamanthamarie
      @pbsamanthamarie 5 лет назад +39

      @@rcb3921 yeah I know, I love you for saying this bc its fun, and there are so many silly social taboos about doing stuff we know is wrong like an inverted bridge, but its fun to fool around with it bc then we get creativity bc even though we know it won't work, we do it anyway and we get silly ideas that lead to o ther ideas and our creativity can grow. I didn't say that right but I know you know what I mean.

    So my grandfather (born 1899) played a little bit of violin, and he always had this story about when he was young he had been to a concert in church, where a guy was playing a violin where he somehow had intwined the strands of the bow *between* the strings, so all four strings always played at the same time. My grandfather attested with great vigor "it sounded just like the church organ" and "it was amazing".
    Clearly the dude was somehow playing chord-stuff on all four strings somehow. Could you guys try something like that?

    • @JohnDoe-xx8yw
      @JohnDoe-xx8yw 4 года назад +23

      Course they do. The design varies a lot from guitar to guitar and brand to brand, but they absolutely do. You need the cutoff point from where the instrument is strung and where it's played, otherwise it's just going to buzz against the body. If you look at a guitar like an Epiphone Sheraton II, it's much more obvious than say, a Fender Stratocaster which has a bridge that's almost flush with the body. Instead of elevating the Strat's bridge, they string the guitar THROUGH the body. But because of the design of a lot of guitars to have the bridge flush/almost flush with the body, it can be easy to miss it if you aren't looking closely
