- Jim Croce recorded and released "Operator" in 1972, a year before his tragic death at the age of 30. His son Adrian James or AJ was barely 2 years old. Now in his late 40's, AJ has carved his niche in the music industry. Here are Jim and son AJ singing "Operator.
Jim Croce is & will ever be my favorite artist. He & Maury were incredible. They could play for hours and never hit a wrong note. AJ is definitely a spitting image of Jim. His style is different. I've seen him play his jazz sets on piano. I was 11 when the plane crash happened. My birthday is September 19th. So every birthday I drink a beer for the memories and his music. I play his CD Photographs and Memories that whole day as well. RIP Jim and Maury. AJ, I hope you have the best life possible. May all your recordings go platinum
I wasn't familiar with and didn't become a Jim Croce fan until after he passed away. His spirit lives on through his very talented son.

AJ has his own singing style. Jim's voice was very distinct.
AJ also plays a mean jazz piano. He and his mom ran a jazz club called "Croce's" and a bar/restaurant called "The Top Hat Bar and Grill" here in San Diego for years.

I love this song. Jim has a very distinct voice while Aj is husky. But you both are talented singers.
I remember my alarm clock waking me up to his plane crash and seeing him several times on Carson and the Midnight Special
I was 12 when he died and up until him I only liked the Monkees and other "kid" stuff (I still LOVE that BTW) but he sucked me in with stuff like Bad Bad LeRoy Brown and next thing you know the deep songs like Time in a Bottle and this were favs before he passed. He was the first musician I ever cried when he died. Ronnie and the other members of Lynrd Skynrd were the next as far as I remember but even they never had what I look back on as near as deep meanings to their works... although I loved them and it still hurts remembering that day too

I’ve always loved Jim’s music. Something drew me in. The strong lyrics and the way he sounded is just soothing and mellow. Also, being a Capricorn didn’t hurt (born also on January 10th but in 1975).
A J definitely has his own style but he sounds very similar to his Dad 🔥🔥🎸👍👍✌️✌️

He got killed right over louisiana which was so sad because he was a incredible songwriter and folk singer with an unusual voice. Wish his son would have kind of taken over his legacy while he also started his own. Because he sounds like his papa.

Wow Jim Croce looks almost 50 in the video, I can really see his stress to the music industry
Have to agree in his late twenties I guess but looking so much older ....as we say in Scotland maybe he had a tough paper round .
Wasn't just the stress of music, but life. He had to do a lot of work and deal with a lot of rejection to get where he did. Artists and hard workers just do.
Adrian James sounds like he can be part of the band EAGLES. Of course, the father is the legend.

he has a sweet voice but its not nearly as powerful as his dad's. If he wants a music
career he should blaze his own trail and not just play Jim's songs, otherwise it seems
like some nostalgia novelty, like a tribute band. He has talent and should do his
own thing.
Don't knock it, he's just doing it to honor his father as he should.
He should sing and write new songs in the style his Dad created
playing Jim Croce's hit ? No ... he's not that good at it.
