When i got my very first car 1973 i had an 8 track player installed. The beach boys were the 1st 8 track i bought. I played it all the time. I thought i was so cool cause the Beach Boys made me feel that way. Sad video but they brought so much happiness to all who heard their music. God love them. It turns my stomach listening to what those boys had to go through. I grew up in a popular beach city & discovered The Beach Boys in about 1975. I couldn't get enough of their music. Their Greatest Hits was the first music on my iPod, which I still listen to! It brakes my heart to know about their painful youth! Jordan, I was born and raised in Hawthorne, graduated from Hawthorne High. My late uncle knew Brian from HHS, played guitar with Brian after school at Brian’s house, as my uncle had a band, he played lead guitar and vocals. But he never told me of any family issues the Wilson’s had. They all must have kept that under wraps like a lot of families did back then. Really tough to hear what went on there, I had to actually stop the video for a bit. 😢 I knew the Wilson house was around 120th Street, but never took the interest to see it, even though I learned to fly at the airport there just a block away. One story that one of my HHS PE teachers said to us one day at school, was that after the boys got record deals and money started coming in, Dennis drove up to the back of the high school in a new Silver Corvette and pulled up next to my PE teacher, showed him a roll of 100 dollar bills and said, “Hey coach....remember when you said that I would not amount to anything?!” 😂 Classic! Mr. Plumb was a very opinionated person. Great tunes Brian and the boys made, part of Americana. 🇺🇸
My dad growing up in that time loved The Beach Boys and of course lived in Whittier so close. I’ve loved them my whole life. I got to see Brian Play Pet Sounds last year and it was amazing.
I had the pleasure of visiting The City Of Good Neighbors in February of last year when I visited California for The Wild Honey Beach Boys Tribute Show at the Alex Theater. My friends took me to Hawthorne where we visited the historic landmark, had pizza at Pizza Show, one of Brian's favorite restaurants, and dessert at Fosters Freeze. We also swung by Hawthorne High School, then visited Carl's grave at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery, and Brian's old Hollywood Hills home.
Hi Jordan, Great vlog...I knew alot of the story of The Beach Boys and even had Marilyn Wilson as a client. She walked me up to the piano in her home and shared with me that it was Brian's. Also got to see alot of awesome photos of The Wilson Phillips trio there among other famous musicians. She was so nice to work with. My friend went to a screening of the movie that was made a few years back and told me about the part where Brian wants to show his girl friend their old house and it was gone...torn down to put the 105 fwy in. Went there in 2017 on my first trip to LA from the UK. A friend posted about the memorial on facebook so got the metro out to there, plus an uber, to find the memorial, bit of an anti climax to see where it is next to the freeway. But it was nice to see and compare to the Beatles stuff in Liverpool though, and I can say "I've been there".
The Beach Boys were great & had some awesome music.That is such a sad & horrible horrible story im so glad they didn't let their up bringing keep them down or hold them back. They made it all the way even tho they came from an abusive family. I love the beach boys. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I have to agree with you about the music of the Beach Boys. I remember hearing it played in the car with my parents when I was a kid. Plus, the Beach Boys music has been used in commercials as well.
That is a 1956 Chevy Bel Air Station Wagon. Very kewl with the surfer on the antenna for what you were going to do this day. Growing up in Huntington Beach summer time was always Beach boys on the radio time on Main street
i rewatched this after getting nostalgic for the B. Boys and watching both biopics Summer Dreams and An American Family. Both are great, you get a little bit different info here and there of course if wanting to compare. The scenes of tyranical Murray are hard to take. In one movie the last few scenes re show the scenes with the actor "Dennis" and it recreates a reunion get together where it is a tribute to Dennis.

David Marks with on the first four albums The Beach boys recorded the first four albums that solidified their sound and their persona. before David Al Jardine only recorded one song with them before he left and then came back.
Living my whole life in Greater Boston, it is really cool to see all this stuff in CA. The Beach Boys were from some far away land when I was a kid. I saw them a couple of times at the old Boston Garden. Sun, Surfing, and warm weather in CA!! Thank you Jordan the Lion! Great show. Jeff
Wonder why there are six guys shown on that plaque on the monument when there were only five guys in the group. It looks like it was based on the cover of their Surfer Girl album, which shows only the five Beach Boys.
Hey Jordan. I guess you're right that maybe some people thought the Beach Boys music might have sounded sappy but not to most of us who listened to them in their hey day. Kinda reminds me of the beautiful harmonies of the Bee Gees the next decade. They weren't everybody's cup of tea but boy I think most loved them too. As for the Beach Boys those of us who grew up in Ohio listening to them made me dream of California, literally 😆. Thank goodness I finally got to spend a lot of time in California when I grew up.
It's sad the boys had to go thru that abuse from their father. Especially Brian. It's to bad the childhood home was gone. But they left/put the brick wall with the plaque and the beach boys with the surf board embossed in the stone So people would know that's where their childhood home was. It wasn't just lost forever when the house was torn down. 🏄♀️🏝
Thanks for showing the monument up close! I plan to check it out whenever I make it out west. Also, thanks for elaborating on the Wilsons' history. Having been a huge BB fan for years, it's frustrating when people often leave out out the band's albums outside of the early surf albums and Pet Sounds. In my opinion, they got really good in '65, and the shift in sound to Pet Sounds was gradual, not a night/day difference like people make it out to be. Some of their best work is on their late 60's and early 70s albums, and the rest of the band proved to be good writers and arrangers when Brian stepped down from his leadership, even though he still contributed many songs. Unfortunately they fell out of favor with the American audience in '67, so they were largely ignored here for years, until Endless Summer in '74 brought them back to the mainstream, but by then people wanted to hear only their early hits. Thankfully more people these days are appreciating their albums from '67 - '73.
Sooooo many great songs. God only knows is beautiful and with Carl's incredible voice. The arrangement and production of Sloop John B is absolute geneous.

Thank you for this, Jordan. (Just catching up on your videos). I’m an old hippie from the east coast. Growing up my record collection consisted of Beatles, and Beach Boys. Brian Wilson was a musical genius. I so agree with you, God Only Knows is also on the top of my list of magical songs. I never get sick of hearing it either. Every one of their songs brings me right back to a special place in time of my life.
Another good video, Jordan.....but SOOO sad! Mrs. Wilson failed her children miserably by not protecting her sons. A mother's most important job is keeping her children safe, so I hold her just as responsible as her husband. The other thing I wanted to mention is that head trauma from repeated beatings may have caused Brian's hearing loss. Thank you and love from Missouri!

God only knows and the Warmth of the Sun are my 2 fave Beach Boy songs. I remember when I first heard God only Knows. I thought it was beautiful. With the Warmth of the Sun, Brian wrote it the night Kennedy was shot. He said he wanted to put something beautiful out there after the ugliness of that day. Thanks for this!!

Murray reminds me a bit of the abusive Joe Jackson. Both fathers went way too far with their physical abusive ways. Brian was so fragile and so gifted!!! Brian has perfect pitch and spot on harmony. He is truly a legend. I still have the Smily Smile album he gave me and autographed in 1969. I raised all of my children in Hawthorne!!! It’s a great place to live.

A good vlog, but also very sad. I saw a bio of the Beach Boys, mostly Brian, some years ago and learned that the father was very controlling, even to the point of how they were to dress. I did not know, however, that he was so abusive, and this almost brought tears.

Murray reminds me a bit of the abusive Joe Jackson. Both fathers went way too far with their physical abusive ways. Brian was so fragile and so gifted!!!

Having lived my whole life in the Boston suburbs, California to me seems like a foreign land, sometimes. Sunny weather almost every day must be nice. No wonder so many people want to live there! A good vlog, but also very sad. I saw a bio of the Beach Boys, mostly Brian, some years ago and learned that the father was very controlling, even to the point of how they were to dress. I did not know, however, that he was so abusive, and this almost brought tears.
