First, thank you for this video! I have yet to go to Oshkosh, and I wanted to get another view from someone who has gone for the first time. I’m glad to hear that your experience was awesome, but that you were overwhelmed. It definitely seems overwhelming for sure. Second, and more importantly, thank you for your discussion regarding the glass avionics. I am also working on my instrument, and I don’t know much about glass panels. It’s interesting to hear your perspective, especially as it relates to Abidine versus Garmin. Again, thank you for this video, and good luck on your instrument. I’m still focusing on the ground portion, so I can get this written out-of-the-way sometime in the fall, hopefully. Keep flying, brother!
Thanks for the comment. I could have done a 2-hour video on Osh and another one on the decision. I will do a Garmin Dynon video soon as I think it will help people. Like you noted, I had a great time at Oshkosh, I think I just tried to do too much in too short a time and got tired. The stress of weather and flying home vs. all the things I wanted to do, and all the people I wanted to talk with had me up at 5:00 am every day and going to sleep at midnight. I think in the future the mission is a few things a day and more time to chill with friends.
Osh can be VERY overwhelming. Gotta break it up by sections. One day is just Warbirds, another day is the 4 big hangars, another for the flymarket, etc... go through the schedule for seminars in advance and try to do one per day.
I did spend time with Avidyne, I have always liked their system alot and agree with you about the buttons. The issues came down workflow between the PFD, radios, intercom and navigator. I just felt like Dynon and AFS could do everything, but it felt a bit more like a workaround. Trust me, I want to be with Dynon, I prefer their service, I prefer their pricing, I prefer their warranty, I prefer so much about them. This was a hard decision.
@@pilotrhinoI’m looking forward to your video discussing the pros and cons between Advanced FS and Garmin. I am struggling with this issue also for my RV10 build. I have an RV9A with full glass Garmin, and I love it. That being said… there are just a few things I hear are better in AFS. However, unless you fly with it or spend hours (as you did), its really hard to know. Also, great meeting you in the food line at the RV10 event. Alan
I've got soaked in my under-the-wing tent on my 4 trips to Osh!....Nope, not again....will only return if I can get that Hilton off the taxiway....which I gather is booked solid until well after my death...
It is gong to be a price decision, but I need to weight the features differences as well. I have a call with Mid West Panels next week to start finalizing the little bits. I will update you and the channel as soon as I know more.

They do an awesome job, I did speak with them. I am not ready for paint decisions yet, but when I am, they are on the list.
I personally like avidyne.......less expensive than Garmin and they still have buttons to scroll.........surprised you didn't check them out.

My tent was dry until the Wed. morning storm, then it got soaked. It was the wind that blew water in UNDER the rain fly.
How are you going to get your RV-10 out of your garage?
Without the wings or horizontal stabilizer it will roll right out.
