I’m an air traffic controller so I appreciate the departure controller’s sense of humor about OSH. I have two goals in life 1. Work Airventure from the tower 2. Build an airplane and fly it to the show
If you're a NATCA member, you might make sure to attend a 4 Square briefing so you are making Roth TSP contribs, in the C/S/I funds and understand FERS... ;)
Good goals @Morphmixologyreptiles I would like to suggest that you start building your plane of choice as soon as possible. That way you can repeat goal 2 over and over again. 😎
Live in Ripon. Just seeing this is awesome. I'm sure you flew right over my house. Every year I find myself standing in the driveway just watching all these planes. Thanks for posting and stay safe.
From an old [75] pilot, very nice; reminded me of a GA airport Morabbin in Australia that had a Left a Centre and a Right, all the same direction! Thank You.
I’m retired controller, 45 year pilot and loved this. Never flown for OSH Air Venture but maybe next year. Won’t be down low in my C414A though…nice job done by all.
Great stuff! Oh, memories for the approach into Oshkosh! The RWY is like landing in a parking lot …. so wide! So well organized with all the volunteers. Have fun. The weather looked great for your arrival. Blue skies!
They are. Sometimes I say “gear down and welded”. It’s a habit pattern. There are two clubs: those who have landed with the gear up, and those that will. The point is to stay in the second club as long as possible.
I’ve come close only on one occasion and got the gear horn. I am so overly cautious now about not ever doing it I am annoying on approach and check it 3 to 4 times.
I could see the anticipation on your face when they called you. Your face read like a book there: "Owww yeah, that's me. I'll show 'em a wing rock!" Beautiful video!
Great paint job and it looks like windows at your feet? Bet that makes it easier to check for the railroad tracks. I could almost feel the childlike glee after the controllers response to that rock. They might not like it, but maybe ‘next’ time you could expand it to a ‘Rock and Roll’
Just found your video, thanks for sharing. I like watching videos of pilots flying to Airventure (some of us locals call it EAA) and listening to some of the ATC's at Fisk, sometimes get some good ones. I'm not a pilot, but I get a copy of the notes or notices from EAA website. Just wondering are the planes from Ripon to Oshkosh at 1800 or 2300 feet? Looks like the train tracks a along side of Highway 44. If so, looks like it would be a fun ride on 44 to see the flightline. Gonna be at Airventure 2023? aka EAA.
Hi thanks for the comment. There’s two altitudes. 1800 and 2300 and there’s two speeds 90 and 130 respectively. Slower airplanes are lower. Sitting at the side of the road while airplanes fly by would be fun. You could also get really close to the ATC facility where they’re directing us. I’ll be there, give a follow on Instagram for updates. I’m usually around the IAC building next to Boeing Plaza.
@@SpreadAviation Thanks for replying, I was at Fisk Approach control last year. I just thought it would be fun to be driving down the road and seeing the planes flying into Oshkosh besides standing in one place watching the planes fly by. I'll try it. I'll be at Airventure 2023 1 or 2 days not sure what days, I have vacation at work that week so I can decide what day(s) to go. Safe travels to you and enjoy Airventure 2023.
Waited all year just for that wing rock! Awesome lol.. Id do the same if I had a capable plane. Well, I take that back.. I'd do it a little differently. Smoke on, Full roll, inverted wing rock, and back to level . They'd love it, but I'd be in trouble. 😂
I couldn't quite see the tail except as you rolled back upright but it looks like there was a little opposite rudder (Dutch roll)? I can see the right aileron alright. Full deflection!
Looking at it again, it’s a right roll with right rudder. You may be seeing the rudder horn which provides aerodynamic balance during rudder deflection. It is in front of the pivot so it moves opposite of the rest of the rudder.
@@SpreadAviation Oh right, that makes sense! It was a nice, crisp roll whatever you did. There wasn't enough time for the plane to turn, but I was still interested to see how you maintained the ground track.
Good news. You don’t really have to work your ears up until you’re close to FISKE and then you switch to tower. Unfortunately the GoPro that was doing audio lost power when I got to the airport so I don’t have that tower.
About 2 hours each leg. Around 300-350nm. This one only carries 42 gallons so I run the wings down and land. Usually have 45 minutes reserve. The pedals are movable so you can stretch your legs out.
WOW!! Amazing air traffic controllers Obviously very experienced and what a process Curious what type of shifts they are working in the tower with that amount of traffic???? A color-blind pilot would not be a good fit for this process of landing on colored dots
The maps, charts and NOTAMs have spelled it FISK for many years. When will all those typos get corrected...or is it just possible that the spelling in the video is in error?
The camera that was recording comms is behind my head. Because it’s inaccessible during flight I have to start it when I get in the aircraft. In this case it died about an hour and half after starting it in Gary, Indiana. The full audio is available on LiveATC.net for the 1730-1800 time period. I was sad I missed it too.
wow! great video, love it!, this looks like good handled chaos xD but do bigger planes also land like this like in the queue? for example a cessna citation?
Im am not a pilot and obviously your wing rock was enjoyed by all (including tower). But I am curious, 91.303 defines “aerobatic flight” as “an intentional maneuver involving an abrupt change in the airplane’s attitude not necessary for normal flight”. Is a hard, 90 degree “wing rock” like that technically considered aerobatic flight? You mention aerobatic flight would be allowed at that time and place, so it would be fine. But I am just curious if a maneuver like that would be allowed whenever.
Also that reg says “not necessary for normal flight”. There has cases tried in the past where airplane performed a maneuver perceived by the inspector to be an aerobatic maneuver, but when it went in front of the FAA they determined that for the operation that was being conducted, the maneuver in question was not unnecessary.
