  • Finally getting into the shop to do some turning, so of course I'll kick it off with something simple, like a Wengé twisting spiral flicking pen. The 3-4 hours it should have taken to make this pen stretched into 3 week due to work and family, but hey, I got a pen out of it, so well worth it!

    Good to see you back in the workshop. The pen turned out well but three hours for a pen is long time. As always the music us great.

      I know Bernie, it's a long time, I mean I've already shown it should take about 10-15 minutes to turn a pen, plus 10-15 minutes for a finish, but this no run of the mill pen here, my friend, the spirals alone are worth an hour ;)

    That's the best flicking pen I ever saw ; ) Like the pen press too.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  Год назад

      I wouldn't say the best, but it sure is up there ;) Thanks mate, the press took me about 3 hours to make out of scrap wood and some metal dowels, and I have to say it was wasted time... I mean, if I was doing 5-10 pens a day, sure, it's a must, but when doing one pen a year, you can use any vise, or even your lathe, pressing against the headstock... but I made it, it's in the shop now for when I need it.

      Thanks Ian, it is indeed a one off, I'm not that into making pens, although should I be lucky and be burdened by a lot of time on my hands, and nothing but pen blanks and kits around me, I'll probably manage to make a few...

      I don't know if I did something wrong (although it's so simple I don't think I did) or maybe it's just like
      that because of the spring loaded machanism... anyways it's a cool little kit and a novelty item. Thank you for giving it to me to have a go!
