+Zachary Freeman Manning never had a rocket arm, he had just enough arm strength to make him NFL-Caliber. His technique, natural timing and accuracy made him legendary.
As an American Football 🏈 fan living in Northern Ireland I LOVED this video. Joe Montana, Jerry Rice etc are the reason I started supporting the 49ers as a teenager in the eighties. I did play a bit of American Football in my late twenties(offensive tackle) but my hands are too small to throw a full size football yet I remember having difficulty finding a helmet big enough to fit my head.

it is amazing how some of the greatest ever look so average. would anyone think this was one of the greatest nfl qb's? talent is one thing...the rest is above the neck and in the heart.
i guess you suffer from ignorance of history...he had the same body type in his playing days. of course, u missed the main point...let me guess, you do this a lot!
+Rick Vasquez What's he's trying to say is that he isn't a unique physical specimen. Now to sound a little more humane, there isn't much separating him from the average Joe other than his knowledge of football. He isn't even particularly tall. +Jeff Porcaro Groove Master Of course he's a freaking QB, anyone can learn how to throw the ball, a special gift is required to flick it deep though( think Michael Vick.) What makes the elite QBs stand out from the rest is their resolve, sound on the fly decision making, level-headedness, and most importantly have a high enough IQ to be able to quickly process patterns and read plays and players. On top of that you just need to know plain ol' football. So you are correct that the most important attributes for a QB is in the head.
Thanks for this demonstration. I have P.E. this semester for the first time required and I didn't know how to properly throw a football due to my lack of interest in sports. Thanks again, sir.
He didn't do it for your PE class. Montana could care less about that. He did this for the boys who grind every day, every hour, every minute, every second to be the best. That doesn't occur in PE. It occurs on the gridiron.
Joe Montana came to my school and talked to all of us on the football team about our third round play off game, it was fuckin awsome! even though we lost the game.
Thank youu I'm going for the QB position at my middle school and I have the best chance and the coaches are looking so I'm just trying to get better in hopes I get the starting job
Always wanted to see a demonstration from the Great Joe Montana on how to throw a football....Got my wish! He certainly was the Best to ever have the Game!

to the people that dont know who he is he is a quateback legnd that first played for he 49ers and won four superbowls for them and then later went to some other team and then he retired around late 80s to early 90s
hahaha you're quite a football historian! I'm not trying to pick on you, it just sounded funny the way you said it, like you were about to teach the youngsters a lesson and then ended it with "...then he played for some other team and I don't know when he retired..." It was the Chiefs he played for and actually took them to the AFC Championship game, eventually retiring in '94.
If you're a young kid trying to play quarterback you might want to watch this I think this guy might know what he's talking about and follow what he says in practice it and you'll probably become a better quarterback more accurate with the football but having a fundamentals down
I'm still not understanding the part where you move your hand at the release point. I can throw perfectly spirals and very accurately, but when I try to do that it's like I'm throwing a boomerang.
The yardage had to do more with the offenses. In the san francisco offense, it was more of quick short passing with some running in the middle. The dolphins offense was just marino throwing bombs downfield with NO running game, maybe that's why he couldn't win anything but still huge respect.
I Want To Be An NFL QB But I Have A Problem I Cant Throw Consistant Tight spirals i dont have to arm strength to throw it deep I Dont Know What Else To Do I Work My Ass Of Each Day But I Just Cant Get it
You'd think describing how to throw a football would be pretty easy until you watch Joe here trying to explain it and you realize no it's not that easy to explain at all..
montana teaching you how to throw...how could someone dislike this video??
Alan M Tom Brady fans
Ethan Hess
Brady is the GOAT but Montana is no doubt a legend himself, he's #2 though, and I didn't dislike this video btw lol.
NmAlan M
Alan M must be bengal fans.
Rams fans
After watching Joe's video, I'm the new starting qb for my 8th grade team. And I'm only 35.
Way to go Brother I told you never lower ur standards I guess coach of ur team didn't get the memo lol
Jesse LeBlanc I guess your mother didn’t get the memo lol
Put ur mask on and get back in the cellar until further notice lol and keep ur helmet on
Jesse LeBlanc your mother is a helmet lol
Jesse LeBlanc come back in another year lol
93 people don't believe that 4 super bowl rings and 8 pro bowls qualifies you as an authority on this particular subject.
+D Lynn Probably Brady fans offended by the desc.
I am a brady fan but i think montana has a better arm. Brady is just good at reading defenses. Which makes his a very accurate thrower
+Mark Guzman The other way around, Brady has a great arm, and Montana reads them better
+Zachary Freeman Manning never had a rocket arm, he had just enough arm strength to make him NFL-Caliber. His technique, natural timing and accuracy made him legendary.
+KillingTheFire plus he could throw on the run, going left or right, like only Aaron Rodgers can. Overall edge to Montana over Brady.
Read the title and thought, "I know how to throw a football" than realized it was Montana and figured I should probably watch
Time to test this out! *Hits random lady on the head at the beach*....
golden rule 😂😂
oml 😂😂😂
ha ha
TOUCHDOWN!

you do realize your judgments of others is self-reflective right? Oh No...you have to think now...sorry. You don't do that too well.

Any fan of football knows who Joe Montana is. A very good video, was looking at the different techniques each use.
Yeah he is legend from san francisco i think
+Armando Santos ya not a big 49ers fan but joe montana is and was legend
Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.
Grandma said you can go home now
How much you wanna bet I can throw a football over them mountains?
If coach would have put you in we would have won state no doubt, no doubt in my mind
Huhuh. Tell that to your Auntie Carolyn.

Always wanted to see a demonstration from the Great Joe Montana on how to throw a football....Got my wish! He certainly was the Best to ever have the Game!
Not true
The most elegant throwing motion of all time for me.
Note the correct position of Joe's right elbow before he is about to release the ball.
Thanks Joe, you are amazing
It was the best spiral I have ever thrown!
THE G.O.A.T.....and IDGAF what anyone says to the contrary....Montana is the best QB to suit up in the Super Bowl era...
Branon Fontaine Tom Brady is... Just kidding; Montana is the king!!!!
He WAS the Goat! NOT anymore.
Branon Fontaine

Matthew Candal how bout that guy from New York ? .... the Butt Fumble ?
Kaybe Vang Mark Sanchez?
Thanks!
What I remember is how good his feet were. He was smooth as silk, great foot work.
I consider Joe "The Cool" Montana as The Greatest QA of all time - yup., mo bettah than Mr. Tom Brady.
Well then Arron Rodgers is a close second
+Jakas Yu It's toug because the era of the 1980s is so much different than today's NFL. Same thing goes for the 1960s-70s era of Unitas/Namath/ Tittle
of course, joe never threw an intercept in the super bowl
Wait this is Joe Montana the qb Tom Brady likes since he was a kid?
indeed
Awesome video

If Joe says so, I believe it.
Agree.
Definitely
HamerSlammerSeries qb mechanics arent black and white. There were some universally great tips but everyone has their own ideal mechanics
I hope Tony Romo doesn't watch this video and think he can be like Joe. Niner Nation baby
Niner Empire *
Tony Romo is better than gay gay watt.

Mathew stafford needs to take a look at this
+Evan Bringold he could throw pretty good.... just needs to improve accuracy
If you're a young kid trying to play quarterback you might want to watch this I think this guy might know what he's talking about and follow what he says in practice it and you'll probably become a better quarterback more accurate with the football but having a fundamentals down
Oh my god, it's JOE MONTANA! Why am I geeking out this much over a simple how to video? CAUSE IT'S F***ING JOE MONTANA!
Thanks man I love the advice now my little girl won the Little Blue Jays supper bowl championship for her team!
Nice

who was waiting for him to actually throw the ball
Thanks for teaching me when my dad never would.
Best how to throw football
Have a good day god love y’all
montana was a great.
Sounds easy!
He caught his own pass
Joe....Montana....nuff said.
Tom Brady: So this is how you throw a football. First step deflate the ball...
🐐
Throw it joe
So how do you grip the ball and release it?
the best ever Quarterback!!!!!
JOE COOL, JOE MONTANA, JO KNOWS SUPER BOWLS!!!!
I'm still not understanding the part where you move your hand at the release point. I can throw perfectly spirals and very accurately, but when I try to do that it's like I'm throwing a boomerang.
Do you have to twist your hand in that direction after the throw. It feels more natural to go the other way.
I just watched a video that said the exact opposite regarding throwing hand and thumb position.
