"No Sam, you need more notes here. And here. And here and here and here and here! MORE SAM, MORE! MORE! YESSS! OH YES!" -- Hazo's mind as he wrote Exultate
i love this song!!! i first heard it about 2 years ago when our across town high school marching band, anderson highland, played at state fair. and they won. i have been tryna hear this song ever since. its simply amazing!!!
first time I saw this piece in honor band.... "DANG." ..... first time I listened to this on youtube.. " OH MY HECK WHAT." (I played 2nd clarinet, part was still insane..) amazing though
We played that at our competition at the east central college in union Missouri and we got a one ( superior). I love this song. I really like our high school symphonic band. We are from Rolla, MO.
I just played this a week ago at UoP graduation with our combined band and wind ensemble. So much fun to play. I totally killed that double tonguing section near the end.
to me.. all of samuel hazo's songs song alike but they are all unique and i like playing the ones i played like ride and sevens and hearing the others..
Sorry I couldn't ask him for you. My band got to meet him in person once at a concert dedicated to him. We got one of his songs signed which hangs on our band's wall.
This piece asks too much of an oboist. As one myself, many of the notes in the runs are impossible to play that fast. The fingerings are way too difficult.
I'm pretty sure Hazo either hates woodwinds or loves them so much he just decides to have us play crazy impossible runs in every single piece he writes...
@narutofreak774 The majority of the piece is in 7/4 time, however it starts off switching between 4/4 and 3/4, and also towards the end where it goes to half time feel it is 3/4.
Don't you guys know the story behind this song? It's pretty funny. North Texas' Wind Ensemble told him they could read any song and play it perfect the first time through...and he made this. Rumor has it that they got it near perfect on the 2nd time, though 0.0
I used to love this song. It was so powerful and amazing. Unfortunately I HATED my part. (I was 2nd Clarinet at the time, so we played ALL of those fast moving parts.)

We're playing this for all-region this year. It's gunna be killer.

playing this in wind ensemble this year and man this is stupidly hard but so much fun
I can feel the pain in my fingers trying to play those runs... I suddenly have a new found respect for my weapon of choice, the clarinet.
when listening to this song it's like "oh man this is amazing". But when playing this song it's like "AW HELL NO!"
One of the most underrated wind band pieces out there.
We played that at our competition at the east central college in union Missouri and we got a one ( superior). I love this song. I really like our high school symphonic band. We are from Rolla, MO.

we marched to profanation. really, it was beyond amazing. and this piece is amazing!!!! AHH
My band is playing this piece, and as an upper brass performer, it's a great piece and I love playing it every day. It's not Equus but it's up there.
the horn parts in this and ride are amazing.
i played this once. those runs were crazy but it was a pretty amazing piece.
1:47 the low brass part is so cool
+Alex Damone It really is, I absolutely love playing that part on tuba.
WOOT I play the Triangle in this song, and I'm a freshmen in HIGH SCHOOL
I LOVE THIS PIECE!!!!!
@janeym dont forget saxophones, we have to do it once, once is bad enough, lol
We played this song in my high school band. :)
Played first trumpet on this. Really fun song to play.
Sorry I couldn't ask him for you. My band got to meet him in person once at a concert dedicated to him. We got one of his songs signed which hangs on our band's wall.
god i sooo want to play this for band
the worlds greatest modern composer. he must be a percussionist. and he just killed the woodwind players!
I played first clarinet for this two years ago. Glad that's in the past...lol
This piece asks too much of an oboist. As one myself, many of the notes in the runs are impossible to play that fast. The fingerings are way too difficult.
As an oboist who had to learn and play this at a clinic this weekend, I REALLY feel your pain lol
Also, in this video, it's being played 18 bpm too fast.
So Epic!

This song is absolutely amazing. The first oboe part does have notes that we can't play at these speeds though.
marching to this song killed me last season D:
but it was fun!
Personally, as an upper woodwind, I have found this to be one of the most enjoyable songs I've ever played....just sayin'.
You mean the tuba walks! ;)
Hazo obviously loved the trumpets because in every song our part is so beast lol
this song is so samuel hazo but you gotta love it
Brilliant.
that clarinet part seems hard, lol.
flute part was SOOOO hard, thank god we didn't go this fast
明日これやる!!ティンパニー!!!!
2:59 love the triplet!!
playing this piece that is my excuse for why it's such a pain to practice
yeah, listen to game freak, POKEMON RULES!
TUNE!
I know! That low brass part in 7/4 is like holy shiz!
the ending!
As torturous as it was, I actually had a lot of fun playing this on clarinet. :] Since it's mostly b flat scales, it's not such a big deal anyway.
omg i play 1st clarinet and i have to play this in a week!!!!!!!!!!!! D:

@janeym I love hard part while playing clarinet. He gives us the best parts thats how I think of it
@dataro93 good thing it's only a concert b flat scale up and down
@krissyandcrissy me too! I love it even though the tenor sax part is somewhat lacking.
@msgross2010
there is no need to brag about your part sir. they are all pretty beast.
0:28 CLARINET RACE GO
@Michaelrocks117 I wish i had a titan or a miraphone firebird.

@krissyandcrissy I wish we were good enough to play this
Yeah it was pretty challengeing but it was great
At least this song is only in the key of C...
I almost cried when my director put this in front of us last winter! Beautiful performance!!
