I don't know if this is a good mindset, but to me there will always be someone better than you at everything. So you just need to focus on being you, because that's all you got and its okay.
It's a great mindset! And it's true. It encourages you to be the best version of YOURSELF for your own sake, rather than fighting the uphill battle of trying to remain number one in the eyes of everyone else. There is always someone better, and that's a good thing. Imagine if you were the best, and you had to come to grips with the fact that there will be no improvements or advancements beyond what you've personally achieved. That's just stagnation, and stagnation is the death of creativity. There'd be no point.
@@nexusserc having that mindset is pointless, if you draw just for the sake of trying to be the best comparing yourselves with other artists and not for yourself you're just gonna grow into hating art considering there are countless artists that could be better than you (technically). and art is always subjective. I don't think the effort is pointless when you can compare your previous drawings and see your progress as an artist. if anything having people better than you can be a great motivation to improve. and this doesn't only apply to art.
@@mochiidonuts5362 I agree, very well said. Having an insecure mindset will not help you grow, especially if you hold low standards for yourself and not even try hard enough. 🤷🏻♂️
@@bigdadbeefsticksyes, but for real, there is no one better than other, you need to be better than your old self and you only, for me art is self improvement like you said, and everyone is unique, in their ways of learning and drawing.
When will people learn art is not the place to prove your the best. It's literally impossible to be better than someone else in a field that is subjective. Edit: ty for helping me ratio the idiots commenting under me.
I agree to an extent but there is a line. There is a reason why we have novice artists and pro artists. I wouldn’t compare myself to kim jung ji. He is objectively a better artist than me. That just means I have to improve until i become a pro. But generally when looking at the average artist it is subjective who you’d view as “better” than the other.
impossible is a tough description 😂 Because there is objectivity in art as well, where subjectivity comes in is where "style" is concerned. In this case (I've not fully watched the video yet I'm just guessing here), if you are trying specifically to capture the "style" of another artist, then you can be criticized if you do an objectively bad job at it. If you're only trying to replicate another artists art but in YOUR style, then it becomes subjective and criticism (if any) should be constructive. Ultimately, art is a way to express yourself and as long as you're passionate about your art, that's really all that matters, and so in that sense I agree that art drama is stupid.
@@hydralily1646 I mean your describing what Im saying. Once you get to pro status and you master the fundamentals there is no clear way of saying who's better. It's just not a place to compete because there's no way you can "beat" another artist who's (in this case) clearly on your lvl.
If you take the time to draw with geometric accuracy, you basically become a wizard. your stuff is readable like 3d, and you achieve a state of being better than everyone else at a subjective pursuit.

I find it funny they're beefing who is better (mostly Aqua, not so much JMarron tbf) when they both exclusively draw images from manga panels/anime. There's nothing wrong with that by itself, but it's like, how about you guys make something original when you're both just copying already existing drawings?? Just a thought.
I always thought their drawings looked SUPER familiar a lot of the time, but I didn't feel like tracking down all the drawings. Somebody with too much spare time should get all the originals up with the copies in a Google doc. IF they really are copies as you say and I suspected, It's like having a beef between Xerox and Canon. It's interesting drafting/copying skills if they're copies, but I'm not sure I'd call them good artists at that point.
@@Alwaysjoel Well they're from famous mangas like Jujutsu Kaisen, One Punch Man, Berserk, ect. There's nothing wrong with drawing an image from one of those mangas, I've done it myself lots of times. They're both making lesser versions of already existing amazing art, it just seems silly to argue whose is better.
Okay I hoped I wasn’t crazy thinking that when I saw these clips- you would think that with how good either of them are at drawing the screenshots from these anime so well, they may have learned to make their own poses or even fan characters with it. (I used to do that for an anime art style I liked- learned how to redraw screenshots and make note of the sort of “rules” the art style seems to follow, and then practice it by making original poses, characters and other stuff. Most people actually believe that the skill of drawing is a talent you are born with. They don't know that anybody can learn to draw, all you need is practice. We all started with illegible handwriting, but because we where forced to write at school, we can write legibly.
Drama = content+engagement = more revenue on social media I wouldn’t be surprised if the “drama” is entirely premeditated to some degree. It’s mutually beneficial for both of them.
These nerds remind me of anime nerds on twitter acting like gangs to rep their favourite anime and manga, the arguments are just a cycle of pointless nonsense and never having the last word.
The art community can never go a day, or even a second without some sort of drama popping up. Its beyond ridiculous and I feel bad for those in the art community that has to deal with all the toxicity within the community I miss when the community was just sharing off your art, and it was all fun. If I could make a theory based on my own experience when I was a naive kid. Some people’s actual lives can be quite depressing to them. They are unsatisfied. There's something so disconcerting about all of this. I've struggled with imposter syndrome with my art for ages and just being able to create stuff i like and feel good about it is a struggle I feel is kinda synonymous with a lot of artist. The fact that a competition is being created is kind of damaging considering the skills these artists acquired have taken countless years of dedication to their craft, and it's being displayed as some inherent gift from God that one is the chosen one is so dismissive for what art truly is. If you're doing this shit for clout, i don't really think you care that much about art at all.
Hard to shallow pills... If these artists spend the amount of time involved in such dramas, drawing. They would literally feel NO NEED to engage in such things
Do they know that you're supposed to stop copying other people's art once you get good enough to copy(when you're a teen or even younger. And at least stop acting like it's impressive that you didn't sketch something when YOU HAVE SOMEONE ELSE'S ART RIGHT THERE TO COPY) or can they not actually draw their own stuff? Because this is some cringey high school level stuff right there. Them beefing over who makes the least amount of mistakes copying someone else's work is wiiiild. This is why folks claim AI isn't doing anything that artists aren't already doing. Thanks Tik Tok "Artists" for helping propagate that by being nothing better than plagiarists for clout.
I totally agree! Like, how do you have time to beef when you know someone out there is literally spending hundreds of hours copying masters so that their fundamentals are rock fucking solid. While these jokers are wasting their time beefing, someone else is banking their own skills and talent, and then getting PULBISHED and PAID for it. Maybe I’m just not terminally online enough but everyone just comes out of this looking like they’re 5 years old. These artists and entire comment sections really need to go outside. How do they have the energy to get this worked up and can I have some lol
I cringe whenever I see these guys just copying manga panels… it’s not art. it’s just the least effective way to study. It’s harmful to other artist that actually produce their own art. At least give a lesson or breakdown what you are trying to learn while acknowledging that you are learning from a manga. There is a reason actual art tutorials show the whole process. It’s not impressive and it’s kind of morally ambiguous. I’ve seen people saying “it’s impressive to draw in that many different styles.” But it’s not. It’s impressive if you can actually make original art in different styles but if you are copying different styles it doesn’t make a difference at all. Also aqua’s “without reference drawing” is a joe quesada daredevil cover. These guys are the reason the art community is dying. People that don’t draw assume these are actual originals that are perfect and done in a couple minutes. They think “I could never do that” because they don’t know it’s actually being copied. So when they see actual original that takes days and may not look quite as good as these legendary manga artist they automatically value it less even though it’s more valuable than the copies these guys are doing.
@@calebconver2188 I guess it's a good thing we don't use your definition of what constitutes as "art". lol All artists copy. It's how we learn. If they are drawing, they are artists. They just haven't gotten to the point of creating their own original art or just don't want to because they are happy to have an exact reference to copy.
@@FelonDog I think you’re misunderstanding what I’m trying to say. You’re right and I agree that it’s fine to copy drawings and every artist does it. I know I do all the time. In my original comment I acknowledge that copying drawings for learning purposes is fine and so is using other artists work as a reference for teaching. That’s all great! My contention is if you copy a drawing and say “this is my drawing” or “this is how I draw x y or x” for clout that is a form of art theft. As for them being artist, while I previously acknowledged that all artist do copy to learn I would add on that all artist also produce their own drawings. Art is a form of self expression and if you are ONLY copying someone else’s work then YOU aren’t expressing anything and therefore not an artist.
This is like the most childish view of art possible. Two people arguing over who can copy a manga without any sketch… this is literally something i would argue about when i was 12 or something. Being an artist on Twitter: Suppressed, loaded with bots. Being an artist on Instagram: First off, why? Second, your art is stolen by 20 different thieves. Being an artist on TikTok: Entering a realm where idiots believe using reference material is cheating and wanted to start beef with you for no reason. Being an artist on RUclips: Uhh.... Also, I'm not forgetting the whole controversy on Ben's artpiece and the Mod power-tripping. Being an artist on Reddit in general: It depends on community. Anything I missed?
I have been a musician, an actor, an artist, a copywriter, a media manager, a multi business owner, and a wife. My least favorite job I've ever had was being an artist. Why? Because of the other artists. Artists are the most egotistical and delusional people I have ever encountered in my entire life.
4:47 something tells me that it’s traced with the whatever the app is called, or the supposedly pre-sketched tracing. Because look at the shoulders, there’s no reason for it to be left unfinished, unless you’re tracing a cropped picture.
At 8:10, I simply pointed out that on this particular drawing, there were sketch lines that had been erased but were still fairly visible, with evidence. However, he misunderstood and thought I was saying he can't draw without sketching. Since then, I've been facing a wave of hate from his community
I've been inundated with illustration and animation for over twenty years. I have friends in all levels of art, and in a wide range of mediums (Digital, CGI, Watercolor, Gouache, Calligraphy, Comics, Storyboarding, etc). I've watched artists grow from high school sketch books to major motion pictures. Neither of these TikTok artists really wow me. Not comparatively to published, consistent, consummate professionals. Don't get me wrong, it's bold to go in with just a pen and no reference or groundwork sketches. That's impressive, but it's not revolutionary. None of the stuff I've seen on either account is truly colored, shows line weight variation, or is gradated with texture and shading. It's pen/pencil sketches, ballpoint pen at that! To be frank, comics and manga are more complex than a single linear sketch. The compositions are more dynamic and the degree of polish (whether it's done digitally, by hand, or hybrid) and the threshold for publishing is much, much higher than I've seen with most of these TikTok artists. It's also one thing to draw a character design once or twice. It's another thing to draw it over and over consistently to tell a story w/ background, lettering, and layout in a 50-300 page comic. My biggest beef with social media platforms is that there is little to no differentiating between a fellow artist's professional critique and the layman/novice saying 'that's so cool man! You're incredible!'. It's criminally easy to get a big head when you're in a pond with a lot of goldfish going "Wow!" over and over. Artists at this level don't have time to start beef with anyone. They need to be pushing themselves, absorbing art from all resources and directions so they can develop their own signature styles. Any decent teacher, like a bear to its cub, would have slapped that ego right out before it got to this nonsense.
I follow a couple Reddit art communities that are all about helping others get better. They’re always nice. I can’t believe TikTok is just an art beef machine.

dont liken ai to digital, digital takes work while ai is the computer doing all the work. if art is about expression, then ai with nothing to express but the average of related images isn't an artist.
The thing is, real artists most certainly do use references. Most of the top professional illustrators and comic artists throughout history used references on a regular basis.

I don't know if I'm wrong about this, but aren't both of them doing fan art? What is the point on fighting about who can replicate better. this is just a fight to see who is the better printer. And also, maybe a hotttake, apparently not from the video, but it doesn't freaking matter! who tf cares if you do a sketch or if you do your drawing x amount of time faster. In the end what matters is the quality, that's the reason you don't see exhibitions specifying the amount of time it took the particular artist to do it. Sure it is impressive to draw accurately and quickly, but I think it's only about 10% cooler at best. Honestly couldn't care less about this beef (even though it was kind of fun to see JMarron diss Acqua by saying "you are not the only one who can draw with a pen"). They aren't even trying to do something innovative but literally just treating fan art (cause I think it would be more impressive if it was actually original characters or designs, albeit it would be harder to determine who is better). But even in such a case, I don't think we can agree as a society on who the best artist really is, it's so stupidly subjective, that it feels like two kids just fighting and bragging for the attention of the girl they like.
Yeah that happened to me, but for me people didn’t believe the art I made so I started recording it and then they didn’t apologize and just disappeared. This happened to me on the biggest art discord and the person who encouraged the people was a mod… ever since that day I have been pretty anonymous.
2:13 idk this person or their ethnicity, so I could be wrong, but isn’t that kinda racist?
Always someone or way more people better than you just makes the effort pointless.
But generally when looking at the average artist it is subjective who you’d view as “better” than the other.
impossible is a tough description 😂
Because there is objectivity in art as well, where subjectivity comes in is where "style" is concerned.

But it just feels like this is a contest of "whose the better copier" and not "whose the better artist." They're both making lesser versions of already existing amazing art, it just seems silly to argue whose is better.
It feels a lot more fun and fulfilling I guess? But that’s also just me ofc)

I understand wanting to talk about it or wanting to improve a community, but the stereotype of artists being unstable exists for a reason.

Been suffering art block for a few days but these mfs made it disappear and make me want to cook more than ever because I don’t copy manga panels unless I’m analyzing the style.

It's art. It's just not their original art idea being drawn.

Facts to the max

Like making the eyes thinner when it’s clearly a drawing that’s not supposed to have accurate anatomy because it’s a stylized art style? Like look at anime characters, they all have different types and shapes of eyes depending on the art style and how the artist wants them and their personality to come off. People really just wanna be mad and criticize over nothing :/
I dont think it is racist to do that , maybe not needed but not racist , the person could have just thought thuner eyes would look better
@@Dr.Infin8ty3810 yeah but if they thought the thinner eyes looked better for the art piece they could just say their “fixing” the art like ppl like that usually say, instead of saying “making her look Chinese” when it’s a stylized drawing that’s not meant to look like a real person
Let yourselves express. Criticism is part of it. Learn to move on. If they are not higher levels of your progression then don't pay attention. Learn and adapt to your creativity. Remember to be yourself and just create.
